I just wanted to confirm Gary Maltzman's post of 5/31/09 that we have a chess club at the North Durham Library that meets every Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4:30 PM. We provide boards and sets, charge no fees and welcome players of all ages and strengths. We had 10 in attendance at this past Saturday's meeting. Some strong players have attended, including a women's champion from Colombia. If you get a chance, stop by. If you have any questions, I can be contacted at "cconero@aol.com".

Hello--
I am a parent volunteer who coordinates the afterschool clubs at Estes Hills Elementary School in Chapel Hill. We would like to start a chess club at school for the upcoming school year and are looking for a volunteer to lead a club. The clubs run one day a week from 2:30-3:45 M,T,W, or Th for 6-8 week sessions during each school quarter. You can specify the number of children you are comfortable working with, and the grades you would be willing to work with(from k-5). Our clubs are free so that all the children can participate, so unfortunately we are not able to offer you any compensation except the satisfaction of contributing to the mental and social development of children, many of whom would be parked in front of a television otherwise. Please email me at aalogan@mindspring dot com if you can help. Thanks!

So far we've had 6 different people at the club with room to spare. There's been some good fighting chess as well.

May new people join the Raleigh Tournament Chess Club? I wouldn't be able to attend every week, but every other or even 3 out of 4 is easily doable for me.
