The North Durham Regional Library Chess Club will not be meeting on Saturday, Dec. 26, but will meet on all other Saturdays this month and in January as well. The library will not be closed on Saturday, January 2, so we will be able to have our regular meeting then. The club meets from 2 PM to 4:30 PM, and all are welcome. Stop by for some casual chess if you are in the area. We are a growing club, and there are always plenty of opponents available. For directions/questions, contact me at 479-7020 or cconero@aol.com.

I NEED YOUR HELP. LAST WEEK, A FRIEND WHO OVER THE LAST 20+ YEARS HAD BEEN A REPEATED VICTIM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, DIED UNEXPECTEDLY A DAY AFTER I TOOK HER TO THE ER AT DUKE MEDICAL CENTER. I CHOSE TO RELOCATE BACK TO CHAPEL HILL 9 MONTHS AGO FROM SOUTH CAROLINA BECAUSE OF THE UNC WOMEN'S HOSPITAL, AND OTHER ORANGE COUNTY PROGRAMS AVAILABLE FOR WOMEN IN HER POSITION IF SHE EVER WANTED HELP OR FELT UNSAFE.
AFTER THE HOLIDAYS I WILL BE LOOKING TO RELOCATE, AS I FIND LIVING IN THE SAME APARTMENT & SLEEPING IN THE SAME BED THAT SHE DIED IN OVERWHELMING. AS IT STANDS NOW, I WOULD PREFER TO STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE IN THE TRIANGLE. MONEY IS NOT A PROBLEM, SO IF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE IN NEED OF A ROOMMATE, OR HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE EMAIL ME AT graham_detective@yahoo.com I WILL BE MORE THAN WILLING TO PAY A FINDERS FEE TO ANYONE WHO FINDS ME A SUITABLE LOCATION.
I AM STAYING FOR A FEW DAYS NEAR WILMINGTON WITH ANOTHER CHESS PLAYER, TERRY NEWMAN, WHO SOME OF YOU MAY KNOW. CURRENTLY, I ALSO NEED SOMEONE WILLING TO PUT ME UP FOR 4-5 DAYS NEXT WEEK. TERRY IS GOING OUT OF TOWN TO VISIT FAMILY AND WILL BE RETURNING ON DECEMBER 28th. PLEASE CALL ME 919-755-7140 OR 919-269-3344. WILMINGTON IS ALSO I CITY I AM CONSIDERING RELOCATING TO.
BOTH MY USCF POSTAL & OTB RATING HAVE BEEN OVER 2000, AND IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT MY ROOMMATE AND THE PERSON FINDING ME A ROOMMATE WILL GET A VERY GENEROUS NUMBER OF FREE LESSONS. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE. CURTIS G.

The Raleigh Tournament Chess Club wesbite has moved to http://www.ncchess.org/rtcc . This move is due the fact that the old site allows pop-ups. I will be maintaining the old site until March, but the links from that site will eventually lead to the new site. I'd like to thank NCCA Webmaster Phil Lowder for setting up the space on the NCCA website for eadch club to have its own page.

Just a reminder to everyone that a new era will be starting at the Triangle Area Chess Open this Saturday. Longer time controls, reduced entry fee, but still handsome prizes. Pre-registration deadline is this Thursday, January 14th. You can pay via Pay-Pal to pre-register and there is no additional charge to do so. My goal is 40+ players per tournament, and I believe this is a very attainable goal. This is also a chance to gain valuable North Carolina Grand Prix points so don't miss your opportunity! For more information go to http://www.ncchess.org/rtcc/taco.html

Congratulations to Daniel Solarez for winning RTCC #6 with a perfect 4 out of 4. He won $36 for his efforts. Jon Achelpohl and Jim Lineberger tied for second with 2 out of 4 and claimed $9 each. I have updated the a few things including the "Player Credit" page. I hope I will have some time due to the snow to catch up the games page, but my priorities right now lie with the NC Scholastics (BTW we need volunteers)and the Gambit. Since I've been battling illness this week, I've gotten quite a bit behind. So I apologize for the delays. I should have the PayPal up for the next TACO soon too.

I am seeking an assistant editor for the Gambit. Mainly what I am looking for is someone to proofread articles and assist me with layouts. Being good with game post-mortems helps. I need someone from the Raleigh area to assist me with this. If you wish to help please e-mail me at my new e-mail adress. RaleighChess-at-yahoo-dot-compostheapforspammers. Or you may call me at (919)270-9948.

Starting next month we will be changing the club format slightly. We will be reducing the entry to $1/game and will not have a prize fund. Also we will be awarding byes based on ratings to ensure more competetive games.
The scale by rounds missed is as follows: Rating /1 Rd./2 Rd./3 Rd. 2000+ / 1.0 / 2.0 / 3.0 A class / 1.0 / 1.5 / 2.5 B class / 1.0 / 1.5 / 2.0 C Class / 0.5 / 1.0 / 1.5 D class / 0.5 / 0.5 / 1.0 E class / 0.0 / 0.5 / 0.5 u1000 / 0.0 / 0.0 / 0.0
What would normally be full-point byes will be treated in the same fashion as missing a game, but the player may only be forced into one of these per month.
Also, to receive credit for winning a tournament you must play three games and the missed round will count as it would in a normal tournament (eith half or full point. Any questions may be addressed at the club on Wednesday. LOL
