So far we've had 6 different people at the club with room to spare. There's been some good fighting chess as well.

May new people join the Raleigh Tournament Chess Club? I wouldn't be able to attend every week, but every other or even 3 out of 4 is easily doable for me.

Cary Chinese School (http://www.carychineseschool.org), a non-profit organization is seeking two chess instructors. These are paid positions to teach beginner-level kid chess classes on Saturdays.

Two chess classes run on Saturdays. One runs from 11:00am to 11:50am and the second one runs from 12:00noon to 12:50pm. Looking for two instructors, one for each class, or one instructor for both classes. Competitive hourly salary.

These positions will start in September, 2009. Please contact Owen Chen at owenjchen@gmail.com if interested. Thank you.

This is good news. I was thinking of doing the same in Cary, but was having trouble finding a spot to do it. Of course, no responsibility is better for me. LOL. I'll be happy to help out in any way I can (espcecially the showing up and playing part.

Raleigh Tournament Chess Club is in the works for Wednesday evening G/60 USCF rated chess in North Raleigh on Falls of the Neuse up by Ravenscroft. There probably will be some kind of non-rated section (2 games each night at G/30??)

Jon Achelpohl is looking to start this this the first week June so if you have any ideas or suggestions, please post them now.

Also, might be able to do something there on a Sunday. Sunday afternoon G/25 quick quads?

More details to come.

For those who played in TACO 50 last weekend I will be recieving games for the most entertaining game prizes until May 5th. I promise I will allow the Coronas to wear off before I judge them. I have already recieved several games in the Open section, but none in the U1600. Mail your games here for consideration

International Master Mikhail Nepomnyaschiy will be giving a simultaneous exhibition match with 30 strong chessplayers on May 14th, 2009 at A&T University!! The simul will take place on the A&T campus in the Stallings Ballroom. Parking will be near the simul location for easy convienence. Vending machines will be available to cure your hunger or thurst needs! I will also be providing some light snacks and refreshments. The entry fee for this event is only $15. This will get you a (1) 4 hour game with an IM, and a 1 hour lecture immediately following the simul!!!! Also to mention, a relaxed evening while enjoying this great game, and maybe even some casual blitz games after the lecture if time permits. This will be the first of many simuls, that I tend to have. I will try to get a new person for every simul. I do have some connections! So I encourage anyone to come out for this prestigous event, taking place in 3 weeks! So far, we have 20 players intending to participate, so if you want to register, then you better hurry up, cause the seats are filling up fast, and we can only accommodate 30. If you or someone you know want to play, then please send me an e-mail at jlawson1185@yahoo.com or call my cell at (619)-788-4299. Be there or be square!! Hehe.

I am also considering a tournament on either Tuesday or Wednesday nights if you're looking for USCF rated games. It would likely 30/60 SD/30 perpetual tournament, but I am open to other formats like 3-SS G/30 each week. Anyone interested can Shoot me an e-mail

Raleigh Chess Club still meets.

On Saturdays from 2-6 you can always stop in at Borders.
We have been getting about 15-25 players each week at Borders.
A few weeks ago I counted 37!
We get lots of beginners (including several kids) all the way up several regulars with strength in the 1600-2000 range.

Does the Raleigh Chess Club at the Kiwanis Park Community Center still exist? Some friends and I are looking for some club play, but all of the email addresses associated with the group appear to be dead.
