Don't worry you will definitely be inserted as a finisher.

Hello, I was number 344 and I certainly DID finish. By my watch it was 1.48.28. I was talking to Chris Thompson minutes after the finish if you want a witness. No idea why I wasn't recorded - I didn't come in a huge bunch. I think I was behind a lady at the finish, which makes sense looking at the positions with that time.

Please could you insert my name? Worked quite hard for this, after a very heavy night before at a Burns dinner.

Best regards, Harry Longman

PROVISIONAL RESULTS VERSION 2

OK I've got as many fixes into the results as follows;

The following people are now included - some were duplicates, some appear to be not recorded: Anway The following are now included:
Kevin Naughton (No. 159), Jackie Daviesworth (No. 132), Ivan Arkinsall (No. 230), Graham Hollowell (No. 422), Peter Collinge (No. 211), Marcus Lancastle (No. 250)and Corrine Clarke (No. 296). I think these are all OK but please check your times and places. This leaves one duplicate No. 23 occuring twice in overall race position 50 and 127 - anybody any ideas?

The following 6 are left as either not recorded or retired and not recorded as retired? 40(O'NEIL), 62 (O,DONOVAN), 285 (GLOVER. P), 308 (AIRD. N), 344 (LONGMAN. H) AND 445 (GRATION J.)

Liz Jones yes we do have you finishing; Race No. 145 at overall position 328.

The guy who was put in the ambulance was OK to make his own way home.

I will wait a little while to see if anymore corrections come in before doing the team results. Though not announced on the day the women's team winners were Charnwood AC and Lou Pymm has your prize (Bottles of wine)- and she has promised to pass it on to you.

Once again thanks for all your help.

i am one of the missing 13. My race number was 250 and my watch time was 1.59.30. i finished just behind a female runner, and i did hear the marshall read my number out.Hope this helps.
Think there was a bit of a rush of runners with us trying to get under 2hrs!
Anyway fantastic race and a big thank you to the marshalls who were standing out in freezing conditions.

Please can you check my finishing position and time? I think I was the first Birstall lady runner to finish. My number was 145.
Thank you
ps.we raised a lot of money in memory of Steve Cobley who supported us last year and sadly passed away in June 2008.This money will go towards an ambulance for the Charnwood area (through Age Concern/Leicestershire and Rutland). Thank you to the race organisers and everyone involved, especially the marshalls, who stood for hours in cold conditions.

Thanks for a great race, especially to the marshalls, refreshments and organisers.
The only downside of a great day out was when we got home and realised we had one extra pair of trainers. We'll give Howard a call on the lost property number to see if he has your details but if you came out of the gym only to discover your trainers missing don't worry they're safe and please accept our apologies.

I think I can solve Ivans problem I'm shown twice once at 1:56:05 which is crack on with my stopwatch and again at 1:59:59 my number was 130 Ivans 230 so its quite possible they were mixed up at the end.

Anyway really enjoyed the event I'm sorry that things were mixed up at the end but the weather wasn't good and we all make mistakes, see you next year.

Runner # 159 K. Naughton was the first Sphinx runner to finish the race (ahead of P. Fahy in 123rd place). His finish position Last year was 89th in a time of 1:49:15, so could possibly be the duplicate in 85th place.

What a great race it was my first time and i really enjoyed it. towards the end i struggled abit but i got so much support from other runners which pulled me through. the worst bit was the mud bath at the start and the end cant believe we had to run through that but i had to laugh about it it was also fun, especially when a man slipped and fell in it and just sat and laughed it off towards the end it was funny. thank you to the man that helped me walk through it so i didnt slip, and thank you to the lady that encouraged me to keep going at the last part of the race i talked to you at the start and it was your first time too then saw you at the end and you let me have some of your water as i had ran out, thank you so much. Cant wait to do it again xxx

PROVISIONAL RACE RESULTS

OK Guys what you've been waiting for the race results are now on the webiste.

But as stated we did have some problems so here is what we know;

The following race numbers were duplicated in the recorded results: 442, 23, 130 and 297. We know the first occurence of 442 (The Winner!!) is correct.

The following race numbers were not recorded as having finished:
40(O'NEIL. S), 62(O'DONOVAN.T), 132(DAVISWORTH. J), 159(NAUGHTON. K), 211(COLLINGE. P), 230(ARKINSTALL. I), 250(LANCASTLE. M), 285(GLOVER. P), 296(CLARKE. C), 308(AIRD. N), 344(LONGMAN. H), 422(HOLLOWELL. G) and 445(GRATION. J).

From that list of 13 four should go in where the duplicate numbers are and the rest either we didn't record or retired and we don't know about it. We think 308 retired. So if you or know that one of the 13 numbers above retired could you let us know. If you see your race number in the list of 13 above can you let us know if possible your rough finishing time and if you know this who you finished before/after. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Many apologies for this we will have to do better next year.

RACE RESULTS

Many thanks for all who took part.

As some of you are probably aware we have had a few race recording problems today. I will try and post a set of provisional results up on the website by close of play today. Where there are known holes in the results I'll try and fill these and ask for your help in sorting problems out.

Many Thanks

Regarding the queries about race numbers. Your race number is on the letter accepting your entry. You then have to collect your race number on the day from the school. That way we know how many people start the race. There are pins available but it is always best to bring your own. The course is very wet and muddy!!
Zoe Pickering  244

To everyone

The person who usually deals with the race forum has had to go away unexpectedly, I'm sorry.

To everyone who has asked, safety pins will be available on the day, Tony will be accepting postal entries right up until Saturday, and if there is no chance to get the entry to him in time, it will be possible to squeeze a few in on the day! There is a record of numbers etc at the race, so if yor cheque has been cashed, then you are in!

I hope this helps.

See you on the day!

Apparently I am displaying my igonorance about spikes.

Anyway after taking more expert advice the advice is; spikes are not recommended not because of the mud but because of the distance of the race, there are some short sections along roads/pavemetnt plus on the golf course you have to run along gravel paths.

I wouldn't recommend wearing spikes the ground is usually fairly muddy - unless we get a really hard frost and we haven't had one on the race for sometime. Your best bet is to wear some fell running type shoes.

Between Lingdale Golf Course and Mapplewell Road there is a stile which many people avoid by using the adjacent farm gate/cattle grid instead. The fencing around this gate has been renewed and topped with barbed wire so take care.

APPROX ROUTE OF THE RACE

This is the approximate route, I say approximate because the Race Organiser may put in slight variations and do things in a slightly different order.

The route starts is the fields behind Martin High School School and then runs along the edges of the fields and into Bradgate Park. Then across the Park, past the ruins, towards the Old John Car Park. Then out of the car park and along the road opposite the car park for about 400m. Then turn right up the hill and descend towards the golf course. The route goes through the golf course sticking to the rights of way. You leave the golf course and pass through a farm and come out West of Woodhouse Eaves. After a short road section the course climbs Broombrigs Hill. The course descends Broombriggs Hill and crosses the road towards Beacon Hill. Then turn left and climb up towards Beacon Hill. Following the fence on the edge of the car park skirt round the top of Beacon Hill. To avoid crossing the SSSI area the course goes towards and through the Car Park opposite the Golf Course at Hangingstone Hills. Now follow the track past the car park toilets which keeps bending to the right and then cuts back up towards the road crossing you went over originally to go towards the Beacon. One you've crossed back over the course retraces itself except that you bypass Broombriggs Hill on the left. It's fairly obvious where you turn left to do this. The finish is virtually at the school itself in the playing fields.

As I say be warned the course organiser may put in varaitions to this, but that's all part of the fun.

ROUTE MAP OF THE COURSE

There is no definitve route map available, because the course usually changes a little each year. I will put a post on later which describes the rough route and if I can find a map of the rough route I will put a link on to that as well.

REQUEST FOR PHOTOS

I've just downloaded my photos last night of the race and they're rubbish. Obviously trying to marshall and take photos at the same time doesn't work. If anybody has any photos of the race and they are willing to share them could you email them to me at andy@railton88.freeserve.co.uk and I'll get them put on the website so everybody can have a look at them.

TEAM RESULTS & MECURY REPORT & DUPLICATE ISSUE RESOLUTION

Hi, folks. The team results are now on the website as is a copy of the Mercury report. The Mercury report can also be found on the Leicester Mercury website under the Sports menu.

I think that the issue of the two duplicate 147s has now been resolved. The first 147, who finished in overall position 56, should have been Race No. 447 (J Harrison). I've now corrected this and the true No. 147 (M. Restell) finished in overall position 77. Any further queries on this please put a post on here.

MESSAGE TO GARY

Had a look at the data and I think that your son was recorded as No. 147, when he should have been recorded as 447 (Which is Race No 447. a J. Harrison, running for BARROW). I'll get this corrected tonight and put a post on and ask the other runner to confirm that this is OK.

RESULTS

OK Folks individual results up. We have a couple of problems with the results. Easy one first:

Runner No. 403 who placed 205 in the overall results is an R. Wolverson running for Milton-Keyns Club. On the entry we don't have your age or your gender. If you or one of your club mates can supply us the details we will get you categorised.

Also the really sharp amongst you will have noticed that we have two No. 147's who placed 56th and 77th respectively at times of (1:44 approx and 1:46 approx). The details for No. 147 are M. Restell running for the Barrow Club. We've checked our paper details and 147 got written down twice so it is not a computer data entry error. So if you finished in a time of between 1:40 and 1:50 approx and you think your details are missing please let us know. I will be going through all the entries to see who is missing, but first I need to manually remove about 60 no shows, which is time consuming. Any other errors please let us know and we will correct them ASAP. Team results should be out by close of play tomorrow.

Non runner

Logged on to see if there was any way to let the organisers know that I've now added the stinking cold that's doing the rounds in Nottingham to my dodgy ankle so running is probably not the smart move.

Can't see a number or email on the website or the confirmation letter.

Hi

Realise that in previous posts you said that there was no email confirmation of entry but I posted my entry first week in Jan ( I think) but so far my cheque hasn't been banked and nothing in post (I sent SAE). Thus, despite earlier post saying that 1st week Jan entries pretty mush secure still nothing as yet. Although this is my first choice event there are other on this date that I will need to enter in next few days if my Charnwood entry hasn't been successful. Advice ??

Wouldn't it be fairly easy (and very helpful for entrants) to list entrants on bowline site ? No harder (in fact easier) than listing results.

cheers

AVAILABILITY OF ENTRIES

As of today Tuesday 8th Jan (17:00 p.m) entries are still open so if you posted today or are about to post an entry you will be accpeted. We don't have a deadline in time but we are limited in numbers and we are about 2/3rds of the way to being full up. As long as you can download an entry form from the website then you will be accepted. I will put a message on the website when we can accept no more entries and I will remove the link to the form.

CONFIRMING ENTRIES

General point; we don't usually confirm individual entries (Apart from if you sent out an SAE). If you are concerned that you have not received your SAE back in the post yet can you wait a little while after Xmas so the post backlog can clear and then contact us. We do cash the entry cheques reguarly so that is another way of checking if your entry has been received and accepted.

Charnwood Race 2008

Hi,everybody as you've probably guessed the web sites been off-line for quite a bit. There will a form you can download and post off for your entry for the 2008 race available on the website from Wednesday 21st November, which is on Sunday 3rd February at the usual place starting at 10:00 a.m.

Sorry the 2007 results are not on the website, but our account got deleted and so we'll probably have to reconstruct the results by hand and put them on a bit later. The Race page has been shifted to a new location. But you can find it from the Bowline's main web page on http://www.bowline.f9.co.uk/

Just what running is all about, with a superb off road course well marked and well marshalled. The organisers should be complimented on their choice of route and coping with the Blackpool like crowds ambling through Bradgate Park. Come to mention it, weaving through the crowds had a slightly surreal quality to it after charging down the hill. Thanks and hope to be there again in 2008.

I have just been banned by the physio and won't be running. I guess it's too late to reallocate my place, but just in case, my number is 42. I would have dropped a note by snail mail, but the website no longer has the details, presumably because entries are closed. Hope it's a brilliant day. See you next year.

This is a fabulous race, many of our Club ran (Barrow Runners) and EVERYONE enjoyed it. Many thanks to the organisers, the marshals and supporters on route there cannot be many better runs in the Country! The revised route was great and Broombriggs the hard way - yum yum!A couple of guys measured the route at 13.8 miles on GPS devices so a good deal longer.
Please pass on our thanks to the Ladies on the tea and cakes - absolute stars. Well done everyone - including all those taking part.

Many thanks for yet another memorable event. The organisation was excellent, as usual, the marshalling and red marker tapes superb and the tea & cake stall loaded with goodies. I liked the new route around Beacon Hill as it introduced some new views and a new hill! The weather was ideal for such an event and yet another full house.

Many thanks again for everything.

For a bit of a change (and last minute training this weekend) I was thinking about running up and down Bardon Hill (I haven't been there before) - can anyone suggest a good training route (7 - 10 miles)?

Out of curiosity, anyone done the local three 'B's - Beacon, Bradgate and Bardon? Aghain, any good route ideas welcome.

cheers

First, yes a great race as usual and thoroughly enjoyable! Many thanks to the organisers, marshals and officials. Pity about the mistakes in the results, though. Just to confirm that the J Clark listed as 22nd MV55 is me -and I am indeed a Female V55! More importantly, as Mike Stiff points out, Sandra Grimes finished well up (10th) in the women's race, making her 3rd FV45 and placing OWLS women as 3rd team with 50 points.
Michael Stiff  40
02-12-2005 12:10 PM ET (US)
A couple of errors in the results. OWLS runners Sandra Grimes (1:46:55) is a female, and Jenny Clark (2:16:50) is also female. They are shown as male. In particular, Sandra Grimes' time makes her one of the top women and lowers OWLS women's team score considerably.

Thanks for finding my shoes. I have made arrangements to collect them. Regarding the shoes I have they are NEW BALANCE 802 MULTI TERRAIN but I can see no size but they are small possibly size 8. They had in them a pair of white socks with a broad blue band on the top.

I took my shoes off whilst sitting on the chair outside the Hall and a young lady sat by me taking hers off also. I think they may be hers and she probably finished near me in 2.15.

If the owner contacts me I will send them back.

Congratulations to the Bowline Club and all it's helpers for yet another superb race. The new sections of the course at Beacon Hill are superb and add to the enjoyment of the race. Even the weather was excellent.

Thank you also for the nice touch at the end - The over 70 prize. That was much appreciated and helped an ageing ego!

All in all a very good day for running and a memorable event.

Just one problem. By mistake I picked up somebody elses running shoes at the end from just outside the door of the Hall. They are New Balance 802 and look about size 8.Would you let me know if anybody has mine which are (I think) NB size 9 multiterrians. Perhaps they were collected at the end in lost property? In reply to your question about the oldest runner there was three in contention.

Yourself at a ripe old age of 70
Tom Wildman fron wellingborough at also 70
but the winner is Tom Sheperd from Ivanhoe runners at the grand age of 71!!.

All three of you where a good 30 places off the last finisher, I can genuienly say I hope I'm half as fit as you guys when I'm that age.

I hope to see you all next year and will definatly introduce a prize for the oldest finisher/M70 Category.

All the best,

Please pass on my thanks and those of Kenilworth Runners to all concerned for a truly excellent 2003 Hill Race. As always the organisation was superb and very efficient. I liked the new course although it came as a bit of a shock at the top of Beacon Hill when the normal easy route was changed but it offered a challenge and that is what this race is all about.
Just one question, Who was the oldest runner to finish on the day?
Look forward to next years race.

Thanks

Mick Morris number 536.- Kenilworth Runners.

Just a quickie to say that sundays event was first class. I travelled up from Brighton to take part and it was well worth the trip. The best course yet!

Lost Trainers & Stuff

Two people reported that their trainers had gone missing after the end of the race on Sunday, easy enough judging by the rows of mud encrusted running shoes outside the hall. If you have acquired an extra pair of shoes or any other extraneous kit on Sunday or have lost some kit could you please details on this message board or ring Ed Procter on 07789 225547.

PS if anybody has any digital photos or scanned photos of the race on Sunday could you email to myself at andy@railton88.freeserve.co.uk so we can put them in the photo gallery we are constructing

Message recived from Terry Oldham.

Just to say a big thank you for the ‘spot on’ organisation and marshalling. It was the first time at this event and I thoroughly enjoyed it. An ‘interesting’ and challenging course, and a lot of friendly banter on the way round. It will certainly be in my running calendar for next year. Well done. Terry Oldham.

Great race, the leg down from Beacon Hill was the best bit the 200 yards from the finish to my car was the worst can I park nearer next year?

Great race, well organised, excellent refreshments, what more could you ask for. Liked the changes to the course. Many thanks to all the members of Bowline especially the Marshalls who stood out in the freezing cold for more than 3 hours.
See you next year.

Hi all,

Hope you all enjoyed our little race, especially the course changes.
On the whole the people I spoke to after the race all had positive feedback but if you have any comments to make about the race, good or bad, please feel free to post them on this discussion board.

Hopefully they'll all be good!!.
