Don't fuck with 2000, that shits for geeks that aren't quite geeky enough to run linux. If you have a powerful enough system, then Windows XP is the way to go. It works great and almost always has the drivers for your hardware already packaged with it. Its the windows that my grandma can almost use (emphasis on the almost), and thats saying alot, trust me.

Certified Geekperson Badcrumble strongly suggests you avoid Windows XP, for security and privacy reasons, as well as the fact that later upgrades to your hardware will become a major pain in the ass. After a certain number of hardware upgrades, WinXP will simply lock up, and you'll have to call Microsoft and convince them that you haven't loaded the software on two different PCs.

The WinXP EULA ("End User License Agreement"), the several screens of fine print that nobody ever reads before clicking "I Agree" during the installation, gives Microsoft the right to feed your PC software updates via the Internet, whether you want them or not.

See the dirty details at www.FuckMicrosoft.com ....

Windows 2000, meanwhile, is fairly bulletproof in terms of security, as long as you're not using Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. (I recommend Mozilla, the open-source browser based on Netscape Navigator.)

Trust me, Brittney, avoid Windows XP. It's evil. Windows 2000 should work fine for you, but be sure to back up your stuff before attempting the installation, even if you have to borrow a Win ME-compatible backup device or just dump everything onto a separate hard drive. Call me if you need help.

I am thinking of upgrading to XP, but hesitate to do so as my burner doesn't fire (thanks, no doubt, to the world's gimpiest OS) and I can't back up any of my shit.

Is the install for XP pretty seamless? Is this something your mom could do? 'Cause if it involves anything command line or if it is going to bring my poor computer to its knees, I'll just suffer on.

Thoughts?

It took me a couple of seconds to figure out the word "lube." I originally thought that it said "cube." Once I realized it was an unopened jar of lube, all my experiences with Windows Me flashed before my eyes.

Oh, sweet jesus. Windows Me? Take the disk out in your backyard and bury it.

I think it's important to point out that
A: this was after a solid two hours of fruitless Windows millennium edition tomfoolery and
B: the two dots, the mantle of the artistic work, are Brittney's.
I merely expounded.
