The Britannia East Anglian Top 16 is taking place on April the 19th at the dome starting 10 30

All intrested parties should conatct me on 07968135602

it is the usual format, but a special occasion as it is the 10th anniversary of the start of this event so I will be trying to get previous winners to play

Look forward to hearing from you

Is your Dad missing a whippet, they usually go with flat caps. John Seabrook thinks it may be his, Daniel plays SCCCC on Wed so will find out. I know it was strange seeing the CE set up with the tables, but what a great feelin. It is the spiritual home of the championships.

I still think we can improve the conditions for the players and will be working hard with CE to improve the lighting, after about 5 requests and 3 1/2hr meetings they still couldn't get it right!

Can anybody confirm that the bar closed at 8.30pm on the Sunday night and that the tea/coffee kiosk wasn't open all day Sunday.

I was so busy I didn't notice it, but someone has brought this to my attention.

We paid for these facilities and I am in dispute with CE at present.

Feedback would be most welcome

I would like to wish Capel St John all the best in their bid to stay in Div 1. We played them this week and their attitude in defeat and sporting behaviour is a lesson to a lot of older players- probably me included!
Secondly I was sorry to miss the Championships but Jimmmy Farrow and the committee deserve great praise for having the vision to return it to the Corn Exchange and raise the profile of a very enjoyable but lesser appreciated sport. Also well done to Graham Mortimer for reaching 3 finals at the age of 167- if he had a proper bat he may do even better- only joking Graham!

Nick...I guessed that you had gone to see your beloved Spurs when I saw that the bar had closed early??
Thank you for your best wishes but I am only 67 and fully expect to play your descendants at the Corn exchange when I`m 167..
Last night we played our last game of the season against Brit.Gulls.It was like your game played in a sporting manner that reflects well on the sport. You will be interested in that we fielded our original old boys,Malcom Fenn(61)Terry Betts(68)and myself. Mr Betts has now decided to retire from our team...this was his last game(won his 3).
Fortunately he has groomed Keith Armes(65)over the last 18 years and now thinks he`s ready to be a front line member???
Best wishes to all at Trimley--Particularly Ken Alford.

I'm looking to try and make contacting all club secretaries easier. I think I have email addresses for most of you but I am missing the following:-

Claydon - Mick Ashton
Helmingham - Graham Goodwin
Kingsfleet - Jon Pieraccini
Norbridge - Des Hindle
Pickwicks - Mike Chennery
Wherstead - Eric Thorne

I realise some of you may not have internet or email, in which case I will continue doing things the old fashioned way by post, but where possible contact via email will save me a lot of time in admin plus save the league some money on stamps!

If anyone has email addresses for any of the above please could you let me know on either 07984 882274 or r.goodhand75@ntlworld.com.

Best regards, Richard

Richard

We are trying to track down the Premier Trophy; sounds easy with the Collins family winning it for 3 years now, but there is some doubt whether it has ever been awarded to them, so perhaps its still with somebody winning it previously? If anyone does have this, please can they get in touch with me as soon as possible, so I can arrange for it to be collected in advance of the AGM (21st May).

Teams who won the Premier division previously were Rosary, Trimley and Claydon so if they have any idea as to the whereabouts then please do get in touch. We really do want to track this down as replacing the silverware is not only expensive but also loses part of our history. Thanks.

Like all other club secretaries I received the missive from Richard detailing the continuation of those dodgy rubbers that most of us hoped would be made illegal imminently. Sadly not.
A credit crunch case of the "haves" versus the "have nots". The pimpled gluers paying a fortune for their Confucius inspired inscrutable instruments of torture while the rest of us struggle on with our recycled bargain bucket bats.
I am thinking of getting Joanna Lumley on the case. Well, she has done wonders for the Gurkhas so why not?
I can see her now, waving her bat outside number 10 exalting the fact that only smooth rubber will do for her.
But it may have to go out after the 9 o`clock watershed.

Britannia Table Tennis Club Hardbat Tournament

On Sunday 7th June Britannia will be hosting a hard-bat tournament. All bats will be provided by the club and are the old barna-style bats. Games will be best of 3, up to 21 with 5 serves.

We are hoping to get 12 or 16 players, so space is limited – get your entries in quick to avoid disappointment!

See http://www.britanniatabletennisclub.co.uk for entry details...

After watching the championships live and then seeing some of the action shots posted on this site , my first thought was of my old deceased friend Chairman and National umpire Bert Newman, and what he would of made of some of the serving. Perhaps the following should be draw to the attention of all league players for the next season so they can start practising now.

6 A GOOD SERVICE
2.6.1 Service shall start with the ball resting freely on the open palm of the server's stationary free hand.
2.6.2 The server shall then project the ball near vertically upwards, without imparting spin, so that it rises at least 16cm after leaving the palm of the free hand and then falls without touching anything before being struck.
2.6.3 As the ball is falling the server shall strike it so that it touches first his court and then, after passing over or around the net assembly, touches directly the receiver's court; in doubles, the ball shall touch successively the right half court of server and receiver.
2.6.4 From the start of service until it is struck, the ball shall be above the level of the playing surface and behind the server's end line, and it shall not be hidden from the receiver by any part of the body or clothing of the server or his doubles partner; as soon as the ball has been projected, the server’s free arm shall be removed from the space between the server’s body and the net.
