That was one of the most absurd things I've ever read. What a load of bollocks. illogical crap.

Everyone go read Olaf Stapledon's _Star Maker_, where . . . oh, that would give the ending away.

I read the paper copy of WIRED's religion issue, and was very unimpressed. Nothing surprising or grabbing.

"[C]omputation can describe all things. ... Even emotion is not immune. Researchers Cynthia Breazeal at MIT and Charles Guerin and Albert Mehrabian in Quebec have built Kismet and EMIR (Emotional Model for Intelligent Response), two systems that exhibit primitive feelings."

Nice that Kevin Kelly could use his Vulcan mind meld powers to merge with them and tell us this.

Overheard in the playground at recess:

"What if we are all just celluar automation in the God Computer body?"

Who publishes this poo? Why are people seemingly afraid to express a truly intelligent insight?

Does all this seem to be more of the same spew.. Where are the new insights? Same old theories wrapped up in new language.. boring.

So God is like this computer, and our reality is like this emulation program running within an emulation program running within this cosmic computer. Dood! This takes me back to college when we sat around the hookah and pseudo-philosophized about the universe and the wonder of it all.

There was an article on a similar topic in New Scientist (www.newscientist.com) recently. The conclusion, if I remember correctly, was that simulation of the entire universe would require more energy than existed in the universe.

Translation: The Universe is just a cosmic act of mental masturbation.

Oh great, now I gotta remember where that one's buried and go dig it out. I think I still have all but 1 or 2 of those someplace.

Ever hear that Kevin Kelly story on This American Life about riding a bike across the country?

I hate the fact that all these slacker ex-hippies have more money than I do.
