Just went for a hike on the Ceran St. Vrain. About 1/4 mile in saw a campsite down by the river with 3 fire rings. The original stone ring, but someone had made 2 additional rings using just a few stones for each one and each one was DIRECTLY BENEATH A PINE TREE WITH LOW HANGING BRANCHES. I know there is a fire ban, but this situation is alarming in that eventually the ban will be lifted, but these sorts of fire locations are never appropriate. Does the forest service ever look at the campsites down there?

NEWS FLASH - Boulder County Commissioners Stop New Oil/Gas Extraction For Another 18 Months
Cheers erupted at the Boulder County Courthouse as commissioners Cindy Domenico, Elise Jones, and Deb Gardner established a new 18-month moratorium on new oil/gas operations in unincorporated Boulder County yesterday. Jackie Dow, Sally and I were there from 'the mountains', joining hundreds of plains dwellers living in Boulder County, the area most threatened by fracking and oil/gas development.
This is the culmination of months intense activity that convinced the commissioners that fracking and new oil/gas extraction was not going to be tolerated and failure to extend the moratorium would cost at least two of the commissioners their jobs, i.e., recall petitions would have come out today.
The commissioners message:
1. We don't want fracking in BC any more than the public does. We are invoking this new 18-month moratorium. Now, we need you, the public, anti-fracking activists, to work at the state level to slow/stop oil/gas development state-wide and take the pressure off Boulder County.
2. We all burn fossil fuels. To stop being hypocritical as individuals we need to find ways to stop burning fossil fuels in our cars and homes.
I think all I need is an electric-only car and an electricity-powered heat pump to generate hot water for my domestic water and space heating.

Nothing really to update. The Sheriff's deputy came up at about 5:00 ish and talked to us. It was too dark to see the color of the truck. I was only able to see the head and tail lights and that it was a smaller size truck with a camper shell. Nothing appears to be missing from the house, yard or our cars. Although, we think we scared them pretty good due to the peel out tracks of the tires! Good thing the kids and my job requires me to work all hours, I guess!

I don't want to alarm anyone, but a small sized pick up truck with a shell just came down our driveway. I noticed it because I was up. I turned on some lights and the truck backed up the driveway, only to return a few minutes later. At that time, Steve was already outside checking to make sure nothing was missing and scared the truck away again. We are not sure who this person is and I contacted dispatch who stated that officers are enroute to see if they can locate the truck. It could be nothing, but we just wanted to let everyone know, in case you see a sheriff's deputy or two wandering around the Bar-K.

Free giant t.v.,under the green tarp in our driveway. It works fine, may need a converter ,unless you have direct t.v. satelite. It is heavy and we don't have room for it. Come and get it if you want, leave the tarp in case our roof starts leaking. It has a table with it that goes underneath the t.v. would be great for movies. Both are under the green tarp.

The water source that Andrew mentioned is the best. We get our drinking water there. It is flowing fast currently, sometimes it is a trickle. If you can get a truck with a tank to fill up, that would work. I have seen many folks there doing that.

Laura, got an electric pump and garden hose. Also, could fit a hose to the bottom of the tank and let it drain by gravity.
Dee, I was told that the water from the City of Boulder facility is potable -- same water that goes to Boulder homes -- hope they told me the right story about that because we used it for a month.

Laura, Mile Hi water needs to be treated, it is not potable upon delivery. He just gets it from the same place as everyone else, near 49th/Pearl. I had that very same problem last summer, ARGH! Laura, instead of paying a company to drive water up here, you can get it yourself for something like $8 per 1,000 gallons at the City of Boulder facility near 49th and Pearl. We just had to do this for a month while our new well was being drilled. You can borrow our tank (300 gallon), which will fit in a pickup or in a trailer, and you can haul up about 200-250 gallons at a time -- that's about the load capacity of a typical pickup or trailer (water weighs about 8.3 lb per gallon). You can borrow our trailer, too. Even paying the gas, it's a lot cheaper than a Mile-Hi delivery -- you're paying them for the truck and driver, not the water. Joe (joeryan147@gmail.com)

We like Carl at Mile High Water (3o3) 249-9652. We paid $170 in 2011 for 1,200 gallons. You are correct, saying it is the same price for any delivery up to 2,000 gallons. He might charge closer to $200 a trip now. Jason

Does anyone up here have WATER delivered by the truckload? Our well has runneth dry, or something like that, and we NEED a water delivery of about 400 gallons THIS WEEK for a 500-gallon tank. My understanding is that we will have to pay for a whole truckload (of 1000 or 1200 gallons) whether it fits in our tank or not, so I'm hoping to split a load with someone. I'll follow up tomorrow with costs, but I just wondered if anyone uses this type of service. Thoughts? Recommendations? Thanks!

Good morning and Happy Father's day!
We could use a coordinator for the 4th of July... What do coordinators get? Free t-shirt, free breakfast and lunch as well as hugs and love from the chairwoman :)
We need an afternoon food coordinator to oversee the BBQ lunch from 2-7:30 responsibilities include working with Dominic to make his day a little easier, to get food prior to the 4th, setting up on the 4th, making sure that volunteers show up and know what they are to be doing, cleaning up when the food runs out or at 7:30pm......
I need one brave volunteer to head up the Wood Splitting Contest.
We could also use someone for advertising, poster pin up, donation requesting and picking the donations up.
Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?

David's suggestion of Nettles is great and as a bonus Nettles helps one to carry more oxygen in the blood, easing altitude breathing problems...
Acupuncture works great to alleviate the symptoms and boost the immune system with only good side effects like improved sleep, attitude, mental clarity, energy level...
Sweets, dairy products, cold foods and starchy foods such as: bread, grains, white potatoes all tend to increase mucus buildup, putting ice cream, milk and yogurt at the top of the list of foods to avoid during allergy season. When excessive mucus accumulates in the system, allergens stimulate a much stronger allergic reaction. Soups, salads, vegetables, and sweet potatoes are all easy for the body to digest. When digestion is efficient, there is less of a tendency for mucus to build up.
Also, there is a movement in Sheng Zhen Gong that is for just this very thing... It is movement 4 of this form http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cCD0l7COqk it's about 7 minutes in.
And did I mention that acupuncture is really great at relieving the symptoms and boosting the immune system??? Tis true.

One allergy combatant that I learned about a couple years ago are Nettle capsules. These have been an incredible discovery for me. Especially for low level allergies, the nettles work great with no side affects. If the allergy is just too much, Claritin or Allegra are pretty effective without the heavy drowsiness. Good luck, that's a miserable condition to deal with.

It turns out that our magic jack phone does not call 911 or get reverse 911 calls. If there is ever an emergency, could someone come by and let us know? If we are not home, hopfully, someone could break in and rescue pets. I am talking about a fire emergency, I can't think of anything worse. I hope there is never a fire near us.

Thanks Cary and "Sneezy"! We sort of accidentally just followed that advice before you gave it (or maybe we picked it up with Extra-Internet-Perception?). He took a bath which helped, and took Benadryl too, and is inside. We havent' had to resort to the face mask, but it's good to have another weapon in reserve. I feel bad for him! I've never myself had to deal with it, and seeing how unpleasant it is, I feel really lucky! My heart goes out to anyone with this problem!

We like Wild Blue/Exede satellite but we don't stream movies (latency menas there is a delay in the signal so streaming movies is lousy). Otherwise it is consistently smoking fast for regular web surfing, etc. Upload and download speeds are superior. Cost is great. Plus we don't have the chunky slow speeds in the evening non-satellite customers experience when everyone is home after work streaming movies, plugging up your web surfing speed. --- Jason On Jun 14, 2013, at 12:43 , QT - Bill Davison wrote:

FullSignal is a local Bar-K company. The one you didn't mention is Nedernet, which is run out of Nederland. They both have antennas in Bar-K. People have generally been happy with both of them, and both are being used by your telecommuting neighbors.
Hughes Net and Wild Blue provide internet via satellite. The upload speeds are limited, and there's a significant issue with latency. Most people would advise you to pick one of the local ISPs, and only go with satellite if nothing else is available.

Northern Front Range Recreational Sport Shooting Management Partnership Forms
Tuesday, June 11, 2013
Boulder County, Colo. Recently Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin and Larimer counties formalized a partnership with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the U.S. Forest Service to develop a landscape-level, multi-jurisdictional strategy for Recreational Sport Shooting (RSS) across northern Colorados Front Range.
The Northern Colorado Front Range Sports Shooting Management Partnership was formed to work across jurisdictional boundaries to provide safe, responsible and accessible recreational sport shooting opportunities while addressing conflicts near residential areas and with other recreation users.
The strategy is not a decision document but a planning tool for agencies to use in the future when making decisions about RSS opportunities and potential restrictions. Decisions will be made after the strategy is in place and will follow the environmental and decision-making review process for each agency.
The partnership will look for opportunities to bring their resources together and be strategic about how and where to provide RSS opportunities.
While the RSS strategy is being developed agencies may still take management action to address RSS issues such as providing new RSS opportunities as well as restrictions for safety when needed.
Informational open houses will be held in each county in the coming weeks to update the public and share preliminary criteria to identify potential opportunities for developed shooting areas in each county. Below is the schedule of open houses: Larimer County: June 27, 6-8 p.m., Carter Lake & Boyd Lake Meeting Rooms, Larimer County Courthouse Office Building, 200 W. Oak Street, Ft. Collins. Gilpin County: July 11, 6-8 p.m., Gilpin County Community Center, 250 Norton Drive, Black Hawk. Clear Creek County: July 16, 6-8 p.m., Idaho Springs City Hall, 1711 Miner Street, Idaho Springs. Boulder County: July 23, 6-8 p.m., Boulder County Courthouse, Commissioners Hearing Room, 3rd Floor, 1325 Pearl Street, Boulder.

Per the discussion the other day about why the fire ban stops at the Peak to Peak Highway. I emailed Sheriff Pelle, thanked him for the existing ban, and asked if it could be extended west of the Peak to Peak. He said, "We are waiting for the fire danger index over 9000 feet to pass into the "High" zone so that we can legally implement a ban in the upper areas of the county."

In case you are wondering where "we" (higher foothills in northern Front Range) are at in terms of fuel moisture, here is a useful link: http://gacc.nifc.gov/rmcc/predictive/erc_10_100_1000_13.htm (might take a few seconds to load, especially these days). If you wonder what those indices stand for, here is a link to their definitions: http://gacc.nifc.gov/nrcc/predictive/fuels...ponent_glossary.htm
In any case, a month ago we had record-high 1000h fuel moisture (since 1994), consistent with a wet and cold spring, but recent dry (and sometimes hot) weather has taken its toll, so we are trending towards 2012 in fine fuels (100h and less), while the bigger trees are still in fairly good shape, for now, more like 2011. My point is that our fire risk should not be confused with what is happening further south (and at lower elevations). I wish I could also tell you that a big storm is on the horizon, but it's not, although the odds for at least some wetting rains are going up over the next few days, especially around Monday.
Hang in there, less than three months to go before we can start worrying about snowstorms again... - Klaus

*Forestry Tip of the Day: What a Difference a Day Makes Forestry Tip of the Day: Low humidity, strong winds, hot temps and an ignition are all it takes to start major wildfires in Colorado. As most of you are aware, several large wildfires erupted throughout the state yesterday.
If you are regular reader of this eNewsletter, then you know that days like yesterday are what we have been preparing for. We know that many of you reading this have been working nearly day and night to prepare your homes for future wildfires. Today, we wanted to applaud your hard work. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we are continually amazed by your efforts to create effective wildfire mitigation on your land. Keep up the great work; you are setting an example for your neighbors, friends and the larger community! Thank you for all your efforts!!
Hopefully, we can use these fires as motivation to make sure our homes are ready. We need your help in our efforts to prepare all Boulder County residents for the next big fire. Help us spread the message of proactive wildfire mitigation. Talk with your neighbors, talk with your friends and encourage everyone you interact with to create effective wildfire mitigation on their land. We still have too many folks who live in the mountains who havent taken action. From the Daily Camera:
After a string of 90-degree days and with wildfires springing up across the state, Boulder Sheriff Joe Pelle has enacted a fire ban for the central mountain corridor portion of unincorporated Boulder County effective at noon today.
The ban area includes all unincorporated Boulder County areas west of Colo. 93 and U.S. 36 between Coal Creek Canyon Drive to the south and South St. Vrain Drive to the north.
The ban prohibits all outdoor burning, fireworks, model rockets, slash fires and any other outdoor activities that produce sparks or flames.
The ban does allow for campfires in public campgrounds and charcoal or gas grill use.
The ban is in effect until the fire risk decreases. Today's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 91.

For Immediate Release CONTACT: Chana Goussetis, 303.441.1457, cgoussetis@bouldercounty.org Skunk Found North of Boulder Confirmed Positive for Rabies Boulder County, CO - A skunk found on Lefthand Canyon Drive located north of Boulder was confirmed positive for rabies on Thursday, June 6. A resident reported the skunk after contacting her veterinarian because her dog had contact with the skunk. This is the first case of rabies documented in a terrestrial (ground dwelling) species since 1963. This is important because the risk of rabies transmission to pets or humans is much higher from terrestrial species than from bats. Its a warning to all Boulder County residents that skunk rabies is present and is a danger in our community, especially to pets and livestock. This resident did the right thing by reporting the skunk and keeping all of her pets up-to-date on their rabies vaccinations, said Lane Drager, Boulder County Public Health Consumer Protection Program Coordinator. Her diligence helped to save her pets from needing to be quarantined or euthanized. Rabies vaccine is very effective at protecting pets and livestock from rabies infection. Unvaccinated pets that come into contact with a rabid animal must either be euthanized or vaccinated and quarantined at a veterinary facility, which can be very expensive. Pets that are behind with rabies vaccinations must be vaccinated and quarantined for either 90 or 180 days, depending on the vaccination status. Pets fully vaccinated by licensed veterinarians need a rabies booster and 45 days of observation at home. So far this season, 69 animals in Colorado have tested positive for rabies: 58 skunks, 5 bats, 2 raccoons, 2 cats, 1 horse, and 1 fox. In addition to this skunk, 2 rabies-positive bats have been found in Boulder, and 37 other animals have been found in counties neighboring Boulder County. Rabies is here to stay in Colorado, so our best defense is taking the necessary steps to protect ourselves and our pets, said Drager. Bats are the most common animal source of rabies in Colorado; however, there has been an influx of terrestrial rabies during the last few years. Terrestrial rabies, such as skunk rabies, is carried by animals that travel predominantly on the ground. Rabies in ground-dwelling animals increases the risk of rabies exposure to pets and livestock, said Drager. If you know of a person or domestic animal that has or may have had contact with wildlife, or if you see a skunk, raccoon, fox, or bat that looks sick or is acting unusual, call your local animal control office. Exposure to rabies is generally the result of a bite by an infected animal and can be practically undetectable, such as a tiny puncture of the skin by a bat. There is no cure for rabies, and it is nearly always fatal if untreated. If bitten by an animal, residents should immediately and thoroughly cleanse the wound with soap and water and seek medical attention. Treatment for rabies exposure involves a series of immunizations given over a 14-day period. For general information about rabies, visit www.BoulderCountyVector.org, or call the Colorado Health Information Line at 1-877-462-2911. -end- Melany Niemann Webmaster Boulder County Public Health 303.413.7575

OUR GRAY TALKING CAT IS MISSING,HIS NAME IS HUNTER. We were helping a friend move yesterday and I was out past dark ,dropping some stuff off in Ward, getting food, and Pete must have accidently let him out. After everything we have been through with Miss KItty, who is doing well. I am hoping he wandered off and someone found him or he is in a tree. When we first got him ,less than a year ago, he was up a tree for a day or 2. He was supposed to be a vicious ,biting, barn cat,but has become a sweet lap kitty. If amyone knows anything ,please let me know. I am glad you are o.k. Andrew, sorry about your truck. I wish the moose would stay here, but she has her trail down at the entry way,and likes the Hempys garden too.

Boulder County Forest Health Outreach eNewsletter June 7, 2013 (part 1 of 2) Todays forest health outreach update covers the following topics: *Forestry Tip of the Day: Dont miss out on cheap slash, log and pine needle disposal *New Publication: Wildfire Mitigation Quick Checklist *In the News: FAQs about the Colorado Homeowner Insurance Reform Act of 2013 *Press Release: Boulder County Sheriff Reminds Public to Register for Emergency Alerts
*Forestry Tip of the Day: Dont miss out on cheap slash, log and pine needle disposal Forestry Tip of the Day: Despite the somewhat cooler and wetter start to the summer, we recently had good reminder about the need to properly prepare for wildfires. On Monday, the Blue Bell Fire started near Evergreen and burned an estimated 15-20 acres. For more on this fire visit the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office Blog.
Got Pine Needles and Cut Grass? In todays eNewsletter we wanted to highlight all the great community driven wildfire mitigation disposal events that are available to you for a limited time. Local community leaders in Nederland, Gold Hill and Jamestown have been diligently working to provide you cheap, easy and close options to dispose slash, logs, pine needles and cut grass. There are several one-time events that are occurring now or soon that we highly recommend you take advantage of. Dont wait to take action, these events wont be available later in the summer, when it really starts to dry out. Attend any event that is close to your home. Open to all.
Pine Needle and Grass Clipping Disposal Options: Nederland area Pine Needle Disposal: You must purchase compostable yard waste bags from Town Hall for $0.50 each. Full bags must be returned to Nederland Public works by June 19. For complete details visit: http://nederlandco.org/2013/06/pine-needle...ale-and-collection/ Gold Hill area Pine Needle Disposal: As part of Gold Hills annual spring cleanup they will have a Firewise dumpster available for disposal of flammable material (pine needles, cut grass). You must purchase compostable yard waste bags prior to the event, fill um up, and then drop the bags off on Saturday, June 15. To buy bags contact local community volunteers, Gretchen at Gretchen@mac.com or Kris at kgkeewee@netzero.net. Buy bags now because they wont last long!
Free Slash Disposal and Pine Needle Disposal Options: Jamestown area Pine Needle and Free Slash Disposal: On June 15, local community leaders are offering a free of charge slash, pine needles and grass clipping disposal event. Yard waste will be dropped in one dumpster and slash will be unloaded and immediately chipped by volunteers into 3 other dumpsters. There are very specific requirements about what is accepted at this event. Please look at our event flier for complete details: http://www.bouldercounty.org/doc/landuse/j...kchipping201306.pdf This event is first come first served so come early. Make sure to keep your pine needles separated from slash. We recommend putting pine needles in big garbage cans so they can be dumped directly into the dumpster.
Nederland and Allenspark Sort Yards are both Open - Slash and Log Disposal Options: Nederland Sort Yard: Open 5 days per week thru July 6. Make sure to bring us your slash and logs now, we are only open one more month! Dont wait until smoke is in the air because the site might be closed. This south county site will reopen in the Fall on a limited 8 day Friday/Saturday schedule. Allenspark Sort Yard: Open now for a limited spring operation on Fridays and Saturdays only. Open June 7, 8, 14, 15. This North County slash site reopens on its main five day per week schedule on July 30 thru Oct. 19. Claire, that must have been the same bear I just saw behind the house. This was a very 'good' bear, as far as I could tell. Thank you for posting the moose picture Sally, that is the moose we have seen near our house,it is quite interesting. We are so sorry about your loss of your sweet goat Jack and Claudia,Yesterday I saw a forlorn looking doe, engorged ,on the other side of overland,it seemed she was looking for her missing fawn.Maybe the lion moved over there for now. Does anyone know how to get rid of voles? Last year they ate our garden. We have not planted yet and it's getting late. Those voles sucked everything from under the ground.

Found the dangerous speeding car from last night - unfortunately living IN THE BAR-K. He passed us again just outside of Jamestown, although this time I pulled over since he was driving so close. Then I felt compelled to speed up and keep up with him to see where he went.

Good Morning Bar K folks,
How many Bar K residents would use a Peak to Peak public transportation route that would go to Nederland? We are looking at the feasibility of this route and would love to know how many Bar K folks would use it. The Peak to Peak route proposed would go all the way to Central City through Gilpin County.

Rick, I called Acme back and asked how much they charge but I haven't heard back. It's the end of the day now so I'm guessing I won't have an answer until tomorrow. I know we paid $265 in 2008 but that's all the info I have now. I'll post again once I get pricing from them. I already have two others who are in for sure and I don't know how many they can do in one day, but I'll let you know.

Hello everyone, we are going to have Acme Septic come pump our septic tank either Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday of next week. When I asked about combining more than one pumping with neighbors to save a little, they said they would love to do more than one in the neighborhood on the same day. So please post here or call me at 303-459-3218 if you're interested, and let me know if any of those days don't work for you. I told Kayla I would call back on Wednesday to schedule it once I see if anyone else wants to tack on. We live on Sky Ranch Estates, so anyone on Overland mountain would be considered in the neighborhood. Acme is a local company, just outside of Ward, and Steve does a great job.

If you've driven past our house (439 Ranch Road) lately you'll notice that we had a dozen or so trees cut down for fire mitigation. This was done through Chris O'Brien and the Left Hand Fire Department, and I want to publicly thank the department and recommend them to others. Chris and I selected the trees to be cut, then the crew worked hard, quickly, and efficiently--cutting and stacking the wood and chipping the slash. Half of the cost was paid by a state grant, which Chris took care of. The final price was very reasonable.

Kolinskis,We sometimes still fire up the woodstove when it gets chilly in the evening. Our house is covered with trees and it never gets very warm,so the smoke you smell is probably us. LuLu, We got some wt food yesterday, she is eating a little,If you don't intend to use yours,we will eventually need more,I will let you know. Garrett, I hope you find your dog really soon, keep going to that area and calling for her.We used to camp in that area and there are mountain lions there, I would find tracks around my tent every morning and one time I thought I was imagining it,I heard a lion stalking me,a car came up and scared it, next morning the tracks were 3 feet behind where I was sitting and it was obvious the cat spun around and ran off. Also, you could put in a missing dog report at the humane society, sometimes people find the dog and keep it until the owner calls and the humane society will connect you. I really hope she is found soon.

We did have one issue with bears 3 years ago,we left the inflatable boat tied to the dock, and the bear tried to take a boat ride. The boat was punctured and ruined by the bears claws. I do have a theory, Reverse psychology may work on bears. I have had an onion in my yard for days that has not been touched. Evidently , Bears do not like onions. Many years ago I threw out one of those old fruit cakes people pass around,Eventually the bear ate it,but it was probably so horrible, they never came back, I found some moose poop in the yard today. Occasionally,(we like to call her Lucy) the moose sleeps next to the dog yard and in the morning moseys on by the deck, you can almost pet her,and goes elsewhere. She was Sal's morning moose photo last week,I love the wildlife around here, even though I am temporarily a bit angry at a certain coyote. It is just nature and we moved into their home.

I am not sure why,but we never have bear issues. We must really stink bad. We don't keep our dog yard very clean,Pete insist on peeing off the deck ,marking his territory, and we have a very loud and moody teenager, and a rowdy boy. We leave our car windows open, with garbage and food scraps from kids, and as youall have probably noticed, there is junk all around our driveway, appliances, an old toilet. I think the bears are afraid of us. We know we are the Bar-K hillbillys.Maybe Miss Kitty has been scaring them away or they think Big Fat Little Buddy Bear, the fat black Lab is actually a bear and it is his domain. He huffs and snorts like a bear sometimes Miss Kitty seems to be improving now,she is drinking, tries to eat but has trouble due to all the wounds and sutures in her mouth from fighting the coyote. Thanks again to all those who cared. Pat, I don't have your number to talk about talking cats, in the vet hospital I just handed the paper to the receptionist while we were being briefed on post operative care and all. She needs to be seen again, I hope Lisa will be available for that.Jeff, maybe if you keep your desk outside ,the bear will move on. I think they enjoy a good challenge sometimes, just looking for snacks and all.I hear the Longmont humane society gives away free semi feral barn cats that live outside. Perhaps adopting an attack guard cat would help.I hope you all know I am not 100% serious about everything, sometimes I try to be funny.

Wow! SOB QUEEN! Never had a title like THAT before!
All suggestions thus far have been right on…ammonia surrounding the shed, bear unwelcome mats made of nails, boat horns, yappy dogs, not having ANYTHING food-related or stinky around, and noise, noise, noise. We keep a junk radio on in our garage at all times, even though we dont have anything stinky nor do we have food in there. I remember a situation in Boulder a few years back where a bear was hiding under a porch and they got him out by setting up a radio playing all the time, although I dont know what kind of music to recommend!!
THANKS for doing all you can to deter this bear from human contact and from being killed. Thanks for NOT calling DOW (unless you feel the situation can absolutely not be resolved without their intervention). Sals right…this bear may remember finding some goodies at your house from the past OR he may have learned from Mama Bear, who may have taught him how to get food this way in the past.
Any further recommendations from other SOB committee members out there?

A cooking pot and a metal spoon can make quite a racket to scare a bear - between a yappy little dog and those items, I was able to get one out of my music room a few years ago. (There was a bag of trash in there and I had forgotten to close the window I'd cracked to ventilate because of the smell - "here, Bear, there's something for ya!" Dumb - never again!) Good luck, Robert! Ammonia sounds like it could be effective.

Robert it seems bears are naturally very inquisitive and also very hungry this time of year. Your shed is an easy target for foraging and probably not "bear proof" and that means it's susceptible. Are there any berries growing nearby? As I recall another bear was successful a few years back getting into trash bags in your car. ? We have a camper parked in the driveway that I hope they will continue to ignore so I dump ammonia on the doorway and the steps and it never has anything in the way of food inside while parked. So far so good. I think the trick is to make your area as undesirable as possible and you need to really scare the bear away when it appears-leaving an impression ...as far as I know Robert you are not very scarey.

Hey Robert, a couple of things come to mind:
Firs off, when shooing away a bear, you need NOISE. I've managed to get one off our desk by screaming like a bloody maniac at it. We then bought those marine boat horns to use. in addition to the boat hrns, you might want to pick up some cans of Bear Strength Pepper spray. A blast from one of those will be remembered. If the bear is continuing to check out your shed, you might want to put some nail boards down around it for a while at night.
I'm sure Laura (the SOB Queen), will have more advice for you, but that's my 2 cents
~Jeff

Bear Trouble
I would like to appeal to the greater Bar-K community for advice on what (if anything) to do. Last night at about 3am, a bear knocked over a few things of ours, and then tried to break into a shed. It woke me up. I got up and shined a light at it, through a window, and it seemed to go away. Soon after I went back to sleep, it was back, knocking things over. So I took the flashlight (all I had was a headlamp), and went out on the porch, whence the noise had come. He was about 20 feet off, and the light served only to reveal red eyes, looking at me, while he snorted aggressively. It was a bit intimidating, and I basically had to face him down, all the while being within easy retreat distance to the back door. I told him calmly to go away; he backed off about 20 more feet, stayed and snorted, backed off another 20 feet, etc.. After about the sixth time, he disappeared. This concerns me especially on two points.
First, we have been very careful of late never to leave out anything the least bit edible or smelly, not even a baited mouse trap. None of the stuff he was disturbing was the least bit smelly -- it was boxes of stuff from spring cleaning that have yet to be put away. This tells me that this bear has made the leap from just going after things that are in and of themselves appealing -- e.g., trash -- to thinking that there is the potential for finding something tasty in anything human, and therefore anything human is a target. Second, this bear is not very afraid of humans. It doesn't just run away, and certainly doesn't stay away. Facing it down was not a comfortable act, even knowing that I could easily scramble to safety. I probably wasn't in danger, but it sure felt like it, being dark, poorly lit, and in the middle of the night. Adding these two up, I have to reach the conclusion that this bear is headed for trouble. I think it's already reached the point of being a danger to property, and worry that it might actually hurt someone. So is there anything to be done? I hate the idea of harming the bear, and the idea that we can't live in peace with them. In past years, the bears have only ever gone after trash carelessly left out, and otherwise have not bothered us at all. We've enjoyed watching them look under rocks, while they ignored our presence and our stuff. But this bear has taken things to a new level, and I worry both for its sake and for ours: it may have a right to live here, but so do we, and I don't know quite how to resolve the apparent contradiction there. My light was not adequate to see it in the dark, but it's huffing was like the bear we saw last week or so, a pure black medium large one that we've never seen before, and I figure it's probably the same. Any thoughts?

A deep laceration through to the bone inside her mouth. Thanks for the encouragement Karen S. to keep on it. We are so glad she was able to be sutured up.Good vibes, and prayers for recovery and no infection are very appreciated. She had 4 teeth removed and lots of sutures there too. Miss Kitty has an early appointment, she is still alive, just in a lot of pain, won't come out from under the bed.We are getting xrays and bloodwork b4 they do surgery, hopefully it is just her teeth and mouth causing all the pain and not internal injuries. That darn coyote might have stomped on her hard. They were going at it for a couple minutes in the mud,her fur was all muddy and bloody. I switched back to homeopathic remedies since she seemed better from them.I was unable to get much more advice ,but we are going for it.I am going to try begging for a payment plan, but if that does not work,I will just write a check and hope we figure something out later.I have a ring with 2 diamonds for sale.I do not wear it,it was Pete's dead grandmother's.Would make nice ear rings, although I should probably give it to someone who did me an enormous favor once, for his lovely wife.I am posting this to update the kind and caring neighbors who called to ask. Our majick jack phone is not working well at all right now.

A couple of weeks ago, I saw someone activate the photo van on North Broadway. It was a white microvan sort of thing, probably the one we're talking about here. After the flash, I saw a human pop up his/her head. In other words, there's someone hiding in there.
So, the fact remains that it's an AVID device checking speed, it's a machine. The law I quoted is in place. Boulder sees fit to find a way to circumvent the intent of the law, yet expects us to respect it?

I am not sure about this, but it was my understanding that all the photo-vans are inhabited by an employee; thus making them exempt. However, if you are traveling too fast already, you might not notice any prior signage.

Thanks, John for the very useful photo-radar information. So I guess the city of Boulder (I think it's them) is playing fast and loose with the law. I don't think that we should let machines enforce the law on their own.

I saw a green metal sign probably 302 feet prior to the white van. 'photo radar somethingerother' it is bolted to another pole that is always there.

Ref: Automated Vehicle Identification Systems, aka AVID, aka photo radar.
Standard Disclaimer, I know nothing of law except what I read. Judges are the ones trained to ignore it.
C.R.S. 42.4.110-5 says, in part,
"(d) (I) Except as provided in subparagraph (II) of this paragraph (d), the state, a county, a city and county, or a municipality may not use an automated vehicle identification system unless there is posted an appropriate temporary sign in a conspicuous place not fewer than three hundred feet before the area in which the automated vehicle identification device is to be used notifying the public that an automated vehicle identification device is in use immediately ahead. The requirement of this subparagraph (I) shall not be deemed satisfied by the posting of a permanent sign or signs at the borders of a county, city and county, or municipality, nor by the posting of a permanent sign in an area in which an automated vehicle identification device is to be used, but this subparagraph (I) shall not be deemed a prohibition against the posting of such permanent signs."
Subparagraph II, mentioned above, refers to AVID used at traffic signals, in which case there can be a permanent sign. It still has to be clearly visible.

Our computer is acting weird also. Thank you LUlu,Andrew, and Karen, and Dana. I may try calling you Karen, after I use a phone that works. I am nervous about the surgery being a success at the moment, and she may not survive it,and it costs a lot.I did not expect her to get worse today.Perhaps they missed something. I don't want to give up,just need more info to proceed. Unfortunately, they did not do blood work or xrays yesterday, which would have told more. They asked me how much money I had first,I had 120$ and I got a 35$ exam and 3 medications for my money. I am going to try to call Lisa and figure stuff out when I get to a phone that works. Thanks again to all my wonderful, compassionate, concerned neighbors, that includes Sal also,he did me a giant favor. Buddy, we owe you and plan to square up asap,as soon as we have time to breathe .

Thank you kind neighbors for your support regarding Miss Kitty.Yesterday I took her to the Longmont humane society vet clinic, She seemed a little better and I was optimistic and scheduled surgery for tomorrow, was going to borrow money from my oldest daughter but she needs it back soon. Today she is not doing as well, not eating, drinking, and hiding under the bed where I can't reach her ,like b4 I gave homeopathics. The vet told me not to anymore that they would interact with the meds she gave her. To my knowlege, homeopathic remedies do not do that. My phone is currently not working well and I am unable to consult with more knowlegable people,or the vet clinic, for that matter. I am going to the merc to use the phone shortly.I am not sure she is going to make it,but I will continue to try whatever I can. I will shamelessly accept donations for her sake, but don't want to waste money, especially if it is not mine.

Dear Bar-K Neighbors: I wanted to give you an update on happenings from the Board of Directors Meetings regarding our neighborhood: We've changed our By-laws to allow renters to join the Bar-K Association. It is $120/year. This is from September 1st to August 31. If you would like to participate now, your dues are prorated, so you only pay for the remaining months (this of course applies to new members only). What does this get you (for both owners and renters)? -You can fish for the excellent brown trout in Penny and Valley lakes that were just stocked last month. -You can walk our beautiful common lands -You can grow potatoes and greens (and other lovely vegetables) in the community garden -You can meet new folks at the Summer and Holiday parties Additionally for owners only: -You can graze livestock -You can vote What are dues used for?: Your dues go to pay for fuel to mitigate and keep our neighborhood safer. Dues pay for lumber and T-posts, gates and gate latches, fish for the lakes. It pays for big projects we have undertaken like the BBQ structure. We have a big project in the garden about to start, to make it more accessible. It's our dues that pays for these supplies. It pays for party food, presents for kids, stamps for correspondence and signage. It pays for the insurance we are required to have. These are just some of the reasons we need you to pay your dues. We can't complete projects without this funding. We currently have 51 members in the neighborhood and there are easily twice that number of households, and approximately 175 lots. Please consider investing in your neighborhood. Even if you don't fish, or have horses, or hike, or like to socialize at the parties, it's our dues and a lot of volunteer labor that keep the Bar-K so beautiful. You can pay your dues by giving a check to any of the Board Members: Jack 3568, Margie 3328, Holly 0355, Carl 3070 or Barb 3205. Speaking of beautiful, we have three important events coming up, the first one Sally Hempy has organized, and the other two are Bar-K events: -June 1st is adopt-a-road. We need volunteers to help pick up trash along the roadside that the Bar-K sponsors. Please contact Sally Hempy for more information. -June 22nd is Trash Day in the Bar-K. This starts at 7am and goes until the containers are full. No slash, no tires. Bagged pine needles are accepted. We need volunteers to help this day. -July 13th is Slash Day in the Bar-K. It was incredibly successful last year, and fun to see neighbors coming together to help each other out. Please consider volunteering this day as well. There will be posters up about Trash Day and Slash Day. If you'd like more information now, you can contact Margie Airola @ 3328. Last, but not least, we have decided to discontinue the newsletter for now. If in the future it seems that folks are more interested in receiving a newsletter and would like to participate, we can think about starting it up again. For now correspondence will be through the QT and the Bulletin Board at the head of the neighborhood (yet another project in the works!) Thanks for reading this, and know you are always welcome to come to the BOD meetings. Our next meeting is on Monday June 17th @ 6:00pm at 641 Ranch Rd. Edited 05-30-2013 01:28 PM

Photo radar warning!
At the mouth of the canyon on Lee Hill drive, with no warning sign. Aren't they required to put up a warning sign? I can't call right now, but does anyone know? It seems really sleazy, because the car is hidden right around a corner, right where you're slowing down after coming down the long hill, but probably haven't slowed down enough yet.

Thanks Andrew ,We think she is going to make it! Thanks for all the wonderful photo posts of wildlife. It is really "wild Kingdom" out there. This morning we had a couple elk,and several deer in our yard, and a coyote hanging around the damn of the pond. It was not the same coyote that attacked Miss Kitty,Pete got a really good look at both of them. The attacker was smaller and darker than the morning coyote. Apparently the coyotes are on the prowl for food as the bunnies are probably laying low, nesting with little babies that are not out yet.I was supposed to go to Denver and apply for a job this morning, but I do plan on calling Lisa when it is not too early. There is quite the pile of kitty hair at the end of the driveway. I can't find any puncture wounds, she lost several teeth, seems to be the main damage. If anyone sees a small darkish coyote with a bite mark full of teeth, maybe shoot it with something other than a camera. How do you get pics on th qt? In case we ever get a new camera, our last one went through the wash and was destroyed.

Boulder County Forest Health Outreach eNewsletter - May 23, 2013 Todays forest health outreach update covers the following topics: *Forestry Tip of the Day: Watch Out for Ips Bark Beetles *Announcement: Allenspark Community Forestry Sort Yard Reopens on Friday May 24 *Event Announcement: Town of Nederland Annual Firewise Spring Cleanup Event June 1
*Forestry Tip of the Day: Watch Out for Ips Bark Beetles they are Flying Forestry Tip of the Day: The spring/early summer is a good time of year to survey all your pine trees for new beetle infestation. Both ips bark beetles and mountain pine beetles continue to be the main species of bark beetle causing tree mortality in our area. As a reminder use our Bark Beetle Field Guide to help with identification these beetles: www.bouldercounty.org/find/library/environment/barkbeetlefieldguide.pdf
Ips Beetle Management Tip: In the spring of each year we typically observe the most damaging ips beetle flight. Over the past couple of days, we have seen signs of new ips infestation in freshly cut firewood piles, freshly cut pine slash and in weakened stressed pine trees. We recommend that everyone does a quick survey of their land to see if there are new ips infestations. Dont forget that Ips beetles only infest pine trees.
Ips Beetle ID Tips: When surveying for ips infestation look for small accumulations of frass at the base of living pine trees, caught in the bark of trees or little piles of saw dust looking material accumulating on the top side of fresh firewood piles or fresh slash piles. This frass is actually beetle poop and is one of the main visual signs of ips beetle infestation. Another sign of possible ips infestation is the very rapid die off of seemly healthy trees. Trees infested with ips bark beetles turn from green to a bright red/yellow in as little as 4-6 weeks.
Ips Beetle Green Chaining: While ips beetles are flying we can use their beetle biology to our advantage. In the next section we explain a management technique known as green chaining. We apologize for the long forestry tip of the day today, this technique is a bit complicated, but if done correctly can be highly effective.
Ips beetles are highly attracted to freshly cut green/wet pine slash and logs. We can use this knowledge to our advantage by intentionally cutting this time of year and stacking green pine slash and/or pine logs in an area away from high value trees and in a location that is easy to access for disposal. These piles of green branches and logs will attract ips beetles to them and in essence bait the Ips into these piles. After Ips infest that material we know that it takes them 4-6 weeks to complete their life cycle, from eggs to flying adults.
Once ips complete their life cycle they fly out of the infested slash pile and if that same pile still remains green/wet and attractive the beetles will generally turn around and re-infest that same material again and begin building their populations within the green pile. We can continue to use ips biology to our advantage by continuing to cut and make sure that we add freshly cut pine slash to these infested piles at intervals of at least every 3-4 weeks. This will ensure that our slash pile always has freshly cut material available that is both attracting new ips beetles to the pile and also helping keep the existing ips populations in the slash pile. The key to green chaining is creating a continuous supply of freshly cut slash during their flight period.
A very important step when green chaining is that you MUST destroy the pile of slash, and therefore the breeding beetles in the slash before the pile dries out to the point that it can no longer support new ips beetle reproduction. We recommend that you haul that pile of infested slash to either the Allenspark or the Nederland community forestry sort yard site. You can also chip these piles.
Why is this important? To conclude, you basically use freshly cut green pine slash or logs as bait for the beetles. You trap them in the material and then haul that infested material to one of our community forestry sort yard sites before the beetles finish their life cycle. We should caution that this technique is not a guarantee and there is a chance that ips will infest living trees near your slash and log piles. This is why we recommend stacking the material away from large prized pine trees that you dont want infested.
*Announcement: Allenspark Community Forestry Sort Yard Reopens on Friday May 24 We are excited to announce the 2013 reopening of the north county Allenspark area sort yard site. The site reopens for free of charge log and slash disposal on Friday, May 24. This spring the north county site will be open on Fridays and Saturdays only, for a limited 8 day operation. Open on May 24, 25, 31 and June 1, 7, 8, 14, 15. The site will reopen again later in the summer for its main 5 day per week operation on July 30. Please help spread the word in your community about this limited reopening. The spring is a great time to be out on your land creating a healthier forest ecosystem that is better adapted to future wildfires. Get those saws out!
Dont forget the south county Nederland area sort yard site is currently open Tuesday Saturday, 9 am to 5 p.m. through July 6. This site has already seen significant use this spring. For more information on sort yards including locations, hours, schedule of operation and materials accepted please visit: http://www.bouldercounty.org/property/fore...es/fhsortyards.aspx
*Event Announcement: Town of Nederland Annual Firewise Spring Cleanup Event June 1
The Town of Nederland will host its annual Firewise Spring Cleanup event on Saturday, June 1st at the Teen Center. For complete details see the event flier here: http://nederlandco.org/download/Town_of_Ne..._Clean_Up_Flier.pdf
New this year the Town is rebranding their spring cleanup event as a Firewise Cleanup Event in order to encourage folks to implement effective wildire mitigation on their land. To help you determine the most important actions to take on your land the Town developed a very helpful Firewise Cleanup Homeowners Tip Sheet that can be view online here: http://nederlandco.org/download/2013CleanupTipSheet.pdf Use this tip sheet to learn more about the types of material you should focus on removing from around your home in order to make it more Firewise.
Also, new this year they will now accept pine needles and cut wildland grass at the event. In order to participate in this new service you must package pine needles in 30 gallon compostable bags pre-purchased from Nederland Town Hall. There is a limit of 5 bags per Boulder County Resident. To purchase pine needle composting bags stop in at Town Hall in downtown Nederland.

Hi Silvia - The timeline fits. If I'm reading this correctly, the attempted stabbings took place on Wednesday night at the campground in Ned and they captured him on Thursday morning at 2:05 am in Boulder. What a crazy situatuion. Definitely explains the swat and four wheeler. The police may have been returning from a search of the area when we saw them...

We recently traded in our 2002 Subaru Outback and got a new one. Left with four winter tires in great condition. 16 inch wheels (the new Subes are 17s). Paid $450 new for them last October - been through one season. Defintely can go next winter, maybe longer depending on your driving habits. Will sell the 4 for $150. 303-459-0524

I am looking for a large 2-bedroom or a 3-bedroom home for my son and I to rent near Jamestown. I'm a colorado native, grew up with friends in Jamestown, and have always loved it here. I need at least two bedrooms and a space (with decent internet) for my home office. We don't smoke, drink, or have pets, I can provide references (even here in town), and am extremely reliable. I've got a steady long-term income and would prefer a year lease under $1,200/month. Please feel free to contact me either via email (kirainco2011 at gmail dot com) or by phone at 720-442-1818

We've had Fred's for 8 years. At least once a year we run out of propane because of the Jeff's miscalculation on our usage. The last time he was here, we were at 10%. Granted we heat the house with our wood stove, but 10% is a level that requires a fill. We cannot fathom why he did not. That is not the problem though, we are all human and make mistakes. The problem for us is the lack of customer service. They don't assume responsibility for their mistakes. In this instance, they informed us that we are SOL until the next time they come up which will be the second week in June. That is very disappointing customer service.

Andrew: No, Hygiene is the only company with that stipulation and the only one that charges your credit card the day of delivery.
If we change, we think it will be to Peak to Peak. Their current rate is $1.69/gallon and rental fee for a 500 gallon tank is $80/annually.
On separate note, is anyone doing house and pet sitting up here these days? If so, please give us a call at o4o6.

We buy from Suburban and rent our tank from them for $40 per year. We only use it for stovetop and grilling, so use very little compared to heating. We've filled our tank once in 15 years and they've never threatened to take it away.
Appparently the rental amount is enough...

Nice picture of the bear. What a beast!
Regarding propane I have been entirely happy with the service and pricing from Hygiene. When I moved in I had a high efficiency furnace put in and upon the last fillup (october 2012??) the driver was impressed with how little propane I've used since the previous fillup (september 2011??). I just received a letter from Hygiene stating that they are coming to pick up their tank in the next thirty days; apparently my contract states that I agree to use at least three times the capacity of my leased tank. Does everyone have this kind of rule in their contract?
Prices to own a tank from Hygiene: 320 gallon- $675 500 gallon- $975 !!! 1000 gallon- $1695 Does anyone have experience buying their own tank? Just off-hand, these prices seem a bit high for the purchase of used metal cylinders.
Thanks

I have been very happy with Hygiene Propane. It's gotten a bit trickier since Larry retired as far as having to plan ahead for delivery but I've never had a problem and always felt their prices were competitive. Jason, I'm curious when you got the $1.62 price that's lower than I've paid in a long time. I know their prices always drop in Aug but it sounds like the price overall has gone down based on what I'm reading on this thread.

Congratulations to Max! regarding propane,we always liked hygiene until Larry retired and they came and took our propane tank away because we were late on the rental payment of the tank and had not used enough propane or ordered enough. It was empty and a lot of people were switching from other companies last year and I guess it was easy for them to just come and take our empty tank and put it at a new clients in the neighborhood. We managed to survive heating with only wood. Due to credit issues,we were never able to get another propane tank,so we replaced the hot water heater with an electric one and used electric space heaters. So the lesson is,don't be late with your tank rental and make sure you use enough propane or they will haul off your tank while you are not home.

We felt ripped off by Northern Energy (owned by giant Amerigas) for a number of reasons, price notwithstanding (they were $2.35/gal last year). Switched to Hygiene Propane Service, much better price (last was $1.80/gal, never above $2) and much better service (accurate billing, friendly, courteous driver who will go through hell to make sure you have propane if your are in a pinch). No weirdness from the office like Northern Energy or their parent company, both of which gave us some wicked run-around (you can look at posts about this from last year re: paying for mandatory connector covers which was bogus and unethical) when we switched service another company. They were awful to deal with and would not take responsibility for their manipulative legal claims. So - peace at last with Hygiene Propane. Can't speak for Fred's or Peak-to-Peak. Call them all to compare numbers and service agreements.

His dogs were barking aggressively and menacingly, and I was actively studying his fence to make sure they could not get over or under it. I yell at menacing dogs to show a dominance position to get them to back down. It has saved my flesh in the past.

 Tonight!
Gypsy Moon is Playing the Merc!
Gipsy Moon is a five-piece group of wandering artists on an endless journey toward good times and raw expression. With music as their carriage, strings as their weapon and the horizon as their aim, this unconventional band is not one to be missed. Their sound, often referred to as Gipsygrass, is something like a backwoods hoedown meets the smoking basement of a New York jazz club. Their soothing harmonies, raging solos and dirt encrusted bass lines bring an old time style into an exciting new dimension; one that hippies and poets, lovers and dancers, freaks and families alike can all come together and move in ways that their bodies have never known. The members, made up of Silas Herman (guitar/mandolin), David Matters (banjo/vocals/guitar) Mackenzie Page (guitar/vocals/tenor guitar/washboard), Andrew Conley (Cello) and Collin Huff (bass/vocals/guitar) all take rest in the windy mountains of Nederland, Colorado. When they are not on the move you can find them here, forming cantos high up in the Rockies, making herbal concoctions out of the local flora or sharing a glistening jug of homebrew around a blazing campfire. This is but a small glimpse into the source of their musical inspiration. The content of most of their lyrics is a tasteful blend of nature based love songs, anti-establishment sing-alongs and down home simplicity with a gentle kiss of civil disobedience. They create music that is meant to plant inspiration in the soul and start a fire in the heart. They perform with the intention to build community and to invoke love in its wildest manifestation. They travel in order to experience life to its fullest and to build bridges that connect the frayed ends of the crumbling establishment to a new and beautiful way of existence. If one should ever come upon an opportunity to see Gipsy Moon, whether on the stage, in the woods or even sleeping in your back yard, they should be pleased at prospect of kicking off their shoes, smiling to the heavens and getting down and dirty to some rowdy ass picking.

Hello Peak to Peak Mountain Transit Project Supporters,
Thank you all for your support. I wanted to give you an update on where we are with our mountain transit proposal, that is, a public transportation option from Allenspark to Black Hawk via the Peak to Peak Hwy. Collaboration and support is imperative for the success of this public transit route along the Peak to Peak Hwy. We are currently working very closely with Via and both the Gilpin and Boulder County Commissioners to submit a Colorado Dept. of Transportation rural transit grant. The good news is this grant deadline has been pushed to mid-July which will give us a chance to write an accurate proposal for the most used (and likely funded) route.
How you can HELP: Once we have the grant application in our hands, we will ask you (individuals) and local organizations/business for a letter of support to CDOT. A similar letter to the Boulder County Commissioners will also be very helpful as we would like to approach them for funding. Please start to think about these questions for your letters of support. 1.) Describe your organization/and location on the Peak to Peak. 2.) What is your relationship to Via Mobility Services (used to be Special Transit)? Who do you think this route will serve? (Remember to identify user groups such as older adults, people with disabilities, students-before and after school enrichment, recreation, health services etc.) Describe specific routes/locations the route would be used for (ex. Mountain family health, connect to Ned RTD etc). 3.) How will you as an individual/organization support Via in the Peak to Peak Transit Project? This may be in promotion and ridership referrals. Please stress the number of riders the organization anticipates as ridership, time of day, and days of the week needed. What fare do you feel is reasonable?
The letters to the Boulder County Commissioners can be written as soon as possible and sent to commissioners@bouldercounty.org.
Thank you for your support and we will let you know how our progress goes…

Following up on Dan's message, please please please do NOT leave bird feeders out. It has been proven time and time again that bears eat from bird feeders.

BEAR WATCH. We live at the east end of Hickok Trail. Yesterday a bear demolished our birdfeeder. Its a good reminder, this is the time of year when bears are most hungry and have the least food. So don't leave garbage out ahead of time, don't leave garages open if you have food in there.

Sad news to report, but, according to the Sheriff's Office, retired Lefthand Fire Chief Dave Nyquist died yesterday from a heart attack.
