Hi Angela,
I have a photo (under glass) hanging on our wall. It was always in my grandmother's house when I was growing up. It is of Charles Turner, taken in 1902 on the road near church..it says. It also said that Charles Turner was wounded in the war in 1918. Since my mother was born in Broxted in 1898, and the boy (Charles Turner) in photo looks to be about 9 or 10?? (not sure), I think they were neighbors living in The Maltings. I often heard my grandmother, and my mother mention "The Turners" even though my grandmother POOLE and my mother, Laura POOLE DELIGHT were now living in California USA. Could this be YOUR Chas. Turner I have a photo of? Can you give me some dates and family names? Thanks. Hope I can be of some help. Cheers! Evelyn Carpenter - California Please check out my website about Broxted and see the old photos on it. http://www.blighty.50megs.com/

Hello to you all. I am writing from Ottawa Canada, and am on a family genealogical journey which has led me to Broxted Parish.

I'm looking for any kind of information about the Challis family. My Great Grandmother was Lillian Challis and was age 4 in the 1901 British Census. She was born and raised there until she was sent to Canada as waif.

I'm new to your website but if anyone has any hints or knows of this family name, please feel free to write to me at 29roses@gmail.com

Hello Rod,
I have an Eliza POOLE b, 1821 (Broxted) who married John DIXON (b. abt 1817) at the St. Marys Church in Broxted--Dec. 30, 1841. John's father was William Dixon and his mother's name was Mary and she was from HENHAM.. It shows John as a THATCHER in the 1851 census - Henham.
1881 census he was living at Brick End, Broxted.
In 1871, his father, William, was living at Brown's End, Broxted. I can tell you a little more about the POOLE side, but that is all I have on the Dixons. Hope this is of interest. Cheers! Evelyn Carpenter (California) QT - Rod Moffatt <qtopic+16-cskaekhFEMy@quicktopic.com> wrote:

Tilty Watermill, Tilty, Essex
Tilty lies just 2 miles from Broxted and has a grade 2 star listed surviving intact 18th century watermill. This unique historical gem is now threatened with conversion into a house if a planning application now with Uttlesford District Council is passed.
Please help save Tilty mill by sending an objection to Uttlesford District Council via the Tilty mills website at
http://tiltymills.mysite.orange.co.uk/

Please take a few minutes to e mail an objection to help save this wonderful mill-Thanks

A group of us family historians are cooperating to build a database specifically for the surname SWALLOW in and around Herts. My own SWALLOW link is with The Hadhams and London. I also manage a world wide SWALLOW one-name study which has about 6000 individuals, marriages and children, many from our area of interest. There are of course many more SWALLOW individuals than 6000! If you would like to help and thereby gain too, please contact me at swallow.john@gmail.com. DO NOT SEND ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION AT THIS TIME. A document explaining what we do, how and why will be sent to you. Thereafter, if we have engaged your interest, we can begin to exchange data.

ONE ITEM IS OF PARTICULAR INTEREST
Alfred James SWALLOW dob 1852 married Mary Ann SMITH of Broxted in St Mary's Church on the 19 May 1877. We can't find any issue of this marriage. Do you know anything about Alfred or Mary

Hi I used to live in Broxted as a child. I left in 1978 to go and live in Telford in Shropshire. I was known at Denise Ede and attended Great Easton Primary School from which I have many happy memories. I was also a member of the church choir when Rev Filby was there. Broxted has stayed in my heart and brings back many happy memories since I left. I have only returned once but have promised myself that I will return to the village in the very near future

Researching the Salmon Family from Finchingfield,Great Bardfield, Stebbing and Dunmow.
The Salmon group of researchers I work with have identified Sharpes Farm as being connected to John Salmon and our family. Can anyone give us any information ?
Our earliest ancestor is John Salmon b.1630 at Finchingfield. The family appeared to own some land and Salmon's Farm at Bardfield.
We would love to hear from anyone who might be connected to us.
Other names related to our research include HARRINGTON,FITCH,BREWTY,BEAL,BRETTON,CHAPMAN,BYATT,PASFIELD,SHONK,OLLEY,HAWKINS,THURGOOD,RICHARDSON and TURNER.

Hi, I have been given a possible link to Broxted in regards to my 3 x ggrandparents.
I am researching Jonathon Brown and Fran (Frances?) Gray who married in Broxted in 1771. They may be the parents of John Grey Brown, born 1788 (place unknown) who married Sarah Coker in Harwich in 1809 and then Elizabeth Watts in Harwich in 1827.
Sincerely hoping that someone may have some information or be able to give me more help or direction in my search.
Many thanks
