Further to my message in May this year. I made my visit to Broxted and other villages in June and was pleased to see places where my ancestors lived. I was surprised to see Brick End cottage still there and a Charles Wright living there. I visited the Prince of Wales pub, and St Marys Church where my grt grt grandparents got married. I left a note in the visitors book. When I am working on my family history now I will know what these places looked like.

Further to my message, last year, regarding the Wright family. I will be coming up from Cornwall, where I now live, to visit Takeley, Broxted, Thaxted and Dunmow, in June this year, to research further into my ancestors. I want to take as many photoes as I can of these villages, as this may be my last chance to visit. If anyone has any information on the Wright family I would be glad to hear from them. For instance, my grt grt grt grandmother Susan Wright (nee Monk) was staying in the Dunmow Union Workhouse with her children in 1841. There is no mention of her husband James Wright. They married on 17th May 1828, and lived in Broxted. They lived at Brick End, in Broxted.

I am surprised no one has replied to Mrs Joyce re The Flying Rat.I believe it was one of Broxteds Pubs-of which we have none now.It has been Known as the Flying Rat for as long as I can recall which isnt long-from the 1960's although now unfortuneately it is called Walnut tree cottage I think.I have always thought of flying rats to be another name for pigeons although I may be mistaken.

I would be interested to hear from anyone researching the Hayden family from Broxted in early 1800's. John Hayden married Sarah Polter 1799 (Boyds Index) and they had 6 children born 1799-1812.

In response to Dave Wright about Freddie Salmon.. Dave, I have a photo of Freddie taken in 1969 on a visit to Broxted. No relation, but Freddie went to school in Broxted with my mother (Laura Poole b. 1898 Broxted). She introduced us to him during our visit in 1969. I took his photo. I also have a picture of him after this when he was 100 yrs old from a Dunmow newspaper clipping. If you are interested, please email with "Broxted" in subject line. Thanks. Does anyone have information on the Bush Familly from Broxted and Tilty, in particular Thomas Bush who has a plaque devoted to him in the church and if any what is his connection to the Bush familly recorded in the 1851 cencus.
The bush familly are my ancestors on my maternal side, and eventually settled in Bermondsey in the late 1800's
