You will find hockey clubs in the Recreation directory (linked from the top of all pages). There is one for under 30 and Rideau Old Timers Hockey. Maybe they can refer you to some others - and please send any info to the Directory! Pat (webmaster), The Manotick Directory: http://manotick.net

Hi, I moved here a year ago and was quite busy with the move...I am wondering if there is an oldtimers hockey league in Manotick as I live in Stonebridge (49 yrs old) and am looking to maybe hook up with a team or even spare.I can play anywhere except goal and left wing (can't turn right well!! lol) No, I've never played pro or ever got a call to be drafted!!! Just a gamer looking for a workout.
Any reply or direction is deeply appreciated.
Regards, Ken

Hi John - what would you like to see added? In addition to all the various directories there is more history, local events, tourist information, maps, etc. than any other community website I've ever seen. (I guess the smiley must indicate tongue in cheek!)

Hello Manotick, We are currently planning our move to Manotick in Mid August. We will be moving into the house my husband grew up in. I am posting this message in hopes to meet a few "friends" for my children before school starts. My daughter is going into grade 3 and my son into grade 1. They will be attending St. Leonard's and I would love for them to meet a few friends before the school year starts. We will be in Manotick the week before school starts. So in the off chance that anyone reads this message board, could you email me and I hope to set up a little play date?? Does this sound crazy - I hope not, I just want to make my kids transition a little eaier. My email is info@lifesmoments.ca You can also reach me through my web site www.lifesmoments.ca, I am a family photographer hoping to be very busy in beautiful Manotick. Thanks for reading my book.

On April 9, City Council will vote for the 'big pipe' to pump sewage from Hillside Gardens about 50 kilometres for treatment - unless a miracle happens. They expect development along the pipe to pay for it - if Minto's needed to pay the "pipe'r", kiss bye to village-size expansion. Last chance to yell at council before they commit $35 million of your tax dollars. Randall Denley (Ottawa Citizen Apr.6) wrote all about the cheaper, proven treatment technology - which everyone but city staff and council seems to know about.

You can spend a lot on newspaper ads, or you could get a listing (and web page) on the Manotick Directory for a whole year for $60, where everyone can find you. http://manotick.net see the business services under "Get Listed". Better value by far.

I am looking for a room to rent in Manotick/Kemptville. I am 21 years old, do not drink or smoke and am not into parties. I want to move to Manotick/Kemptville to be near my fiance who is at college in Kemptville, so either place would be great.
If you have a room for rent, or know of someone who may have one, please e-mail me at karate_kid014@hotmail.com, or call me at 519-474-2482 (cell 519-317-0455).

Would you like to buy a nice home for an great price?! Just kidding. You can get detailed travel directions from http://maps.google.com. Typing this - from: Manotick, ON to: Carleton University, Ottawa, ON - you get 20.0 km  about 25 mins. Pretty accurate. I prefer River Road north then cross the Rideau River at Hogs Back Rd. to the Colonel By Drive to Carleton - less stressful. River Rd. to Bronson Ave is another way but heavy traffic. I have no experience with the bus but check the "Government" page of the Manotick Directory for "OC Transpo" - lists route numbers which you can use on their site. This is very spam-free here but you can post like this so others can contact you: pat (at) manotick.net Pat Drummond

Hello Anonymous...for now!!A;A;In my opinion, for the commute time, it depends where in Manotick you would be living.A;A;At "Rush Hour" depending on your route it could take anywhere fromA;25-30 minutes. A;Of course the drive is through country side is very scenic. We live in Greely. Greely/Manotick is country living in the city. I find driving into town from Manotick/Greely area to be very pleasant drive. A;Returning home in the evening is even better. A;You can feel the stress draining from your body as you drive passed the grassy plains and treed areas. A;You might even see a deer or two in the fields. Very rewarding and relaxing. A;You're not all wired when you get home. A;A;Let me know what area you are looking to buy and I/we can give you a couple of routes that could possibly save you time.A;A;Do you have a Real Estate Sales Representative at this time?A;My husband, John W David, is a Real Estate Rep in the Manotick Area, Riverside South, Greely, etc.A;He is out on the road right now. I suggest many people prefer fax ordering so they can send credit information with "some" security. Most small websites have no secure ordering. The website mentions they are not answering phones for a few weeks so they are probably on holiday. Wait until they answer their phones, then ask them for references from 3 happy customers. Check with the Better Business Bureau. Search Google for: "The Discriminating General" Manotick There are 46 hits with many sites that link to militaryheritage.com Here is a site with the business on a preferred vendors list in PDF format: http://continentalmarines.110mb.com> Discriminating General located at 1121 Jean Park Road. I am > attempting to purchase some uniform items for a Police Honor > Guard in Texas. I can't get anyone to answer the phone at the > General and their web site states best way to order is by fax.

I am trying to find anyone who can vouch for or recomend a business located in Manotic. The business name is The Discriminating General located at 1121 Jean Park Road. I am attempting to purchase some uniform items for a Police Honor Guard in Texas. I can't get anyone to answer the phone at the General and their web site states best way to order is by fax. Seems a little odd to me. Does anyone know anything about them. Are the legitimate?

Hi, I wonder if you can help me. I'm trying to reunite myself with a couple of friends who I met whilst they were living in the U.K. Their names are Jim and Faith Rogers-Stewart, and the last canadian address I have for them was in Old Colony Road, Manotick, Ontario. Thay have two daughters, Lydia and Katrina, who will now be in their early 20's. My name at the time we were close was Sue Ingram. I can be contacted on e-mail thimbellina70@hotmail.com It would be so nice to catch up with them, if you can help, I would be extremely grateful. Many thannks in anticiption Sue Howe

Hello there, Happy New Year. I'm writing from England and I'm trying to find out some details regarding my forefathers. In 1864 in the Mitchell & Co County of Carleton and Ottawa City Directory John Cowan is listed as being a carpenter and grocer. He is also listed as being the Worshipful Master for LoL 477 in the Orange Hall, Manotick. He had several children, the first (my great-grandfather) in 1863 and I was wondering what the name of the school would have been that the children would have gone to, and also where they would have been christened (they were members of the reformed episcopal church). Any advice would be greatly received. Many thanks.

There seems to be more spray painting as of late on signs etc.
Parents do you know where your children with spray paint are?
This kind of vandalism costs each of us from our tax's.

Hello, My wife and I just moved into the area. While our home was being built we were DEFRAUDED of 1200 dollars by a phony Insulation contractor with a card that read GASTON INSOLATION (sic). He convinced our foreman to pay him up front for materials and then quickly dissapeared. He left a card with a cell number and the only time I was able to get through, his wife said he was in jail and proceeded to scream violent obscenities at me. I spoke with the police and apparently this type of thing is happening far too frequently these days...as a result, cases are pushed back 6-8 months before the police can deal with them. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND SPREAD THE WORD to others so they can avoid the same fate with fraudulent contractors.

ATTN VETS.
I've been involved in a discussion about a new ammendment being considered in the U.S. with regard to FLAG BURNING. Basically one side of the argument is it should be against the law to burn a flag because its discrespectfull to citizens and veterans. The other side says its freedom of expression and veterans fought and died for rights such as burning your own flag.
If theres any veterans that could share their thoughts on the topic it would be appreciated.
Thanks.

We are from British Columbia and are moving to Manotick this summer due to my husband's relocation at work. My husband is already living in Ottawa since May 2004. Our son graduates high school this June and we are joining my husband in July. We bought a home in Manotick Estates. Johm, our son is 17 and is not quite ready for university education yet, moreover he is also required to complete his summer school in July taking Calculus 12. With this big move ahead, I am hoping to find some work for John (part or full time) in the Village starting August 2005 till summer 2006. Hopefully he will be ready for university next year. Is there anything anyone can suggest? We look forward to the move in July and getting to know the community we will be part of. Any assistance is very much appreciated. Thank you. p.s. I will be in Ottawa early June, we are taking possesion of our home then. I can certainly meet with any potential opportunties then.

The Friendly Message of Peace to the Whole World The Film : Jeannette of Nazareth
This is to announce the featuring of the Film of this Unique production : Jeannette of Nazareth. It will be run on March 19, 2005 at 2 :00 p.m. at the Ottawa Central Library at 120 Metcalf St. Jeannette will be doing a warm up by playing her own music half and hour before the film. The audience who know her songs will be able to sing along during the film. This musical documentary humouristic yet dramatic film is one of a kind which man has never seen before. It has a spiritual, political, artistic, and touristic aspect with gorgeous panoramic scene of many countries taking you right to the Alps of Switzerland, to the heart of Paris, right to Nazareth in the Holy Land, and the Mediteranian beaches of Spain in Costa Brava. Come and see how each of us can contribute in our own way towards world peace. The film is in French; however, Jeannette will be translating spontaneously sprinkling a word here and there during the film to help us follow up the theme and understand the content of this two-hour musical documentary movie. Dont miss this beautiful opportunity which will shake our emotion and vibrate the musical cord in full sensation and admiration. It will touch the heart of the young and the old. All done in simplicity and poverty! The entry is absolutely FREE! It was created in support for the community and in promotion of the world peace. The film is not for sale. There will be limited seats; first come first serve. We suggest strongly that you arrive 15 minutes early. Mark this important event on your calendar. It is suggested strongly children be accompanied by adults. Hurry up! Dont miss your chance! We will be waiting for you!
P.S. This movie will be run again on May 28 & Sept. 10, 2005. As for Dec. 10, there will be a Christmas concert while running on the giant screen some video-clips of passed peace concerts.
May Joy and Peace Reign on Earth Now and forever! Amen!

I am a current home owner looking to rent a house due to marital separation. In town or rural. Up to $1000/mos. Prefer detatched with fenced yard as well as garage and/or good size shed, but will consider others. Well mannered pets must be ok. I am flexible as to a move in date and would be looking to rent for a year possibly longer. Lease ok. Rent to own also considered for right property.
Please send details to Christine at milesaway@sympatico.ca

Found: Small cat, young grey/brown tabby, very sweet and friendly, likes people, good with kids. Is currently living in my attic and garage, but must go home. Not sure if it is male or female, but is very thin and hungry. Found on Manotick Station Road, south end, appeared about a week ago i think. If you have lost your cat and think it might be yours, or are interested in adopting this liitle one, please email to me ASAP at squishy0024@yahoo.com
This lovely little cat really needs to be indoors, is definately not used to being out, needs TLC and is quite willing to give it as well. it has to go this week as we have four cats and can't keep it.

I lived in Manotick from 1965-1974 and my mother [Olga Whenham] worked in Rich Wilson's Law Firm during that time. My mother is celebrating her 80th birthday this year, and I would love to receive pictures that anyone might have of either Rich, or the front of his then office. If you have any scanned pictures, please send them to me - sfaryn@ca.ibm.com.

Workshop on Village and Rural Design
The City has initiated a dialogue on the design of our visual environment. Please join us for this unique opportunity to express your views on village and rural design:
Wednesday, October 29 6:15 9:30 p.m. Osgoode Community Centre Osgoode Main Street
This workshop is part of an initiative called Ottawa By Design: An Action Plan to promote quality design in Ottawa. With public input at every step in the process, this plan will map out a range of City initiatives, actions and programs that will act as a blueprint for our visual environment. It may also establish a set of actions for the approvals process.
We invite you to engage in a dialogue on design to:
· Investigate public preferences for varying styles of buildings, parks and streets · Explore what people find attractive about Ottawa and other places · Identify appropriate approval guidelines to promote better design
At this event, you will be provided with an opportunity to discuss one of the following two design themes:
Village Design including: a) What is the best part of living in a village? b) What are the most pleasant and eye-catching features in your village? c) What features would you change if you could?
Design of the Countryside including a look at:
a) Farmland; b) Country roads; c) Commercial/Industrial areas; d) Country lot subdivisions; e) Open storage; f) Signs; g) Quarries, sandpits and landfill sites;
Due to the high level of public interest in this subject, we ask that you pre-register for this event. Please indicate in your RSVP the number of places that you would like to reserve, your language of choice, and which of the two design themes you would prefer to attend.
To reserve your place and to receive more information, please contact:
Donald Morse 580-2424 ext. 13850 Donald.Morse@ottawa.ca

I recently purchased a lovely black and white drawing signed by J Sharkey Thomas. Someone had framed it. Taped to the back of the picture is the following:
Caribou Fawn Pepper House Fine Arts Ltd. P.O.Box 549 Manotick, Ont. Can anyone tell me anything about this artist or the establishment that originally sold it? I couldn't find any reference to either on your web site. If anyone knows anything, please reach me at myshyeyes@hotmail.com.Thank you!

Please remember your security when posting. Information concerning holidays and that you will be away from home could be advantageous to some. A reverse check of a phone number even, could get someone your address. Not trying to scare anyone, just be careful with information submitted to open sites like this.

You could try talking to the people at the two veterinary clinics in Manotick, one on Scharfield Rd. and another on Main St. (north). Or ask at one of the pet food stores. You should include an email or phone number so people could reply privately.

You can list community events free of charge just by going to The Manotick Directory (type www.Manotick.net into your browser bar) and filling in the application. Local community and service organizations can also request a free Web page. The directory offers business listings (pages) and Web pages in the Business Directory at nominal cost to support the community directory, which has served the area since 1997.
