You're not the only one dismayed with the new startup screen. Apple showed off so much innovation in OS X 10.2 that it was a real disappointment to see the drab grey startup screen. But that's Steve Jobs for you. He wants to play with the new toy, not the old toy. The old startup screen probably reminded him too much of OS 9. Let's hope they put together a more worthy replacement.
