I thought it was pretty simple really.
Opening scene she's dreaming, half wakes up looks around a bit then falls back onto the pillow to keep dreaming. Drug induced of course. Now it all get wierd when she actually wakes up and that's the last 3rd of the movie. Watch it again and see if I'm wrong!

Yeah, finally saw the ending after fast-forwarding the whole movie on my computer's DVD drive. I definitely stopped watching RIGHT before things got weird (I missed the Italian version of "Crying" for one thing, and all the, ahem, nude scenes...).
I'd have to agree with you, Jon, about Lynch. But he does have originality, which is rare in Hollywood. And the ending sort of brought everything together for me.
Silencio.
I LOVED the scene where the guy shoots the vacuum cleaner.

I have come to the conclusion that David Lynch is a smart guy, but he's not nearly as smart as he thinks he is.

Just found out on the net that none of the Lynch DVDs come with chapters. Ugh. He wants you to "experience it all at once" and not in bit and pieces...
Whatever.

Well, we got 2/3 of the way through it, then accidentally stopped the DVD of "Mulholland" and then could NOT fast forward back to where we were. What's up with that?
I thought it was pretty good, what I saw of it, and nowhere NEAR as weird as either "Wild at Heart" or an average "Twin Peaks" episode.
Maybe that last 1/3 gets really wacky...
I've got the DVD playing now in the living room, waiting for it to cycle back to where we were. Technology -- it's so friggin' great.

Mullhulland Drive is wierd. Like REALLY wierd. You have to pay really close attention or you won't get it. But I liked it. :)
