So the idea being you used to "drill down" to the information you were after? "Drill down" had a lot of exercise as a buzzword circa 1996-97...when one manager at my company kept using it I doodled him as a superhero, "drilldownguy" (with massive black and decket, natch)
but his power paled compared to Mighty Mixed Metaphor Man

I first came across the PEECOL typeface at eboy.com. I contacted the creator and wrote a review of PEECOL for Wired. Then I bought the typeface and decided to use one of the characters as the logo. I likes the driller, because it fit the earlier incarnation of Boing Boing, which was a directory, not a blog. (The directory is accessible in the right hand column, but it hasn't been updated).
I'm thinking of making a new logo, based on one of my own illustrations.
