In Lansing Michigan the PO is right by the Lansing Mall. Packed out on Black Friday. The next morning nada. It's going to be a slow Christmas. | | |

Did those of you that worked Thanksgiveng have a lot of mail? Just curious. Several times my coworkers say "there was a lot of mail!". Mail has dwindled and so has the workers.

Tour 3 no one was forced to work, I've only been here 2 years and got a holiday I was happy. I know they forced people on Tour 2, not sure about Tour 1. Even casuals on Tour 3 got off, unheard of around here.

Burning up the budget so when things are done, Potter and company can justify it. Excessing, consolidations and possibly RIFS. Less mail and billions lost and OT and working holidays that I know we haven't worked since 2006. Something is not right here. is management that dumb? how dumb of me to ask that question!!!

Just curious as to any office out there that was forcing people to work on Thanksgiving or Christmas for that matter. Our office is forcing people on Thanksgiving with over 30 years service and under. Runor has it that Christmas is going to be the same way. Anyone else have this going on?

Downsizing on day shift has been going on for some time. A friend of mine worked (retired now) on T-2 for over 20 years. Her hours were 8-4:30 pm. With the exception of about 15 people, the entire shift had their hours changed to 12-8:30 pm. After reading other forums, I have reason to believe it will get worse next year. As far as management, I believe they are mostly the reason for our decline. I know an office where there are 33 carriers an 4 supervisors. HAH!! One supervisor for 8 employees. How dumb is that. Good luck Kelly. Keep posting about what is happening in your facility.

We are being seriously downsized on the day shift at Southern Ct P&DC in Wallingford. Management isn't exactly taking it easy on us and our union at the local level has not stepped up at all for us. I'm just wondering how many postal facilities/plants are being downsized on day shift across country and how management is going about it. they say it stems from the 3.8 billion dollar deficit, but I say lets downsize management. Their salaries are outrageous in our facility and there are a lot of them.

To answer your question Penny: This is not a huge facility, there are approximately 100+ Mailhandlers here. There are 3 AFSM machines,1 SPBS machine, 1 low cost tray sorter and about 15 DCBS machines, as well as manual 150 and 170 operations and two docks which are not very big. Hope that info helps!

It won't be long before something like this happens here at the Norfolk P&DC. It is a darn shame, it really is!

Excessing has already began in the Detroit cluster.. The BMC here had mailhandlers shipped to Pittsburg. The Priority mail Center (P-1) has had clerks excessed and reassigned to city carriers as has some of the MVS Drivers as well. And just this week, another 103 mailhandlers recieved letters stating that in 60 days they too are being excessed. Unfortunately, these latest 103 letters have not stated the PO's intentions of what they plan to do with these mailhandlers once they are excessed.
I don't know about any of you folks but here in Detroit they are making moves constantly. Even the limited duty personell are not off limits. Some have recieved new job offers with only 2 hours of work per day with OWC paying the other 6 hours!
With all this said, bare in mind that here in Detroit their is a new "Super Plant" North of the city that has been opened for a year now. My feeling is that ultimately they are trying to eliminate as many plants as they can in the area and move everyone to this plant eventually that is left over from the excessing.. We have eleiminated 2 annexes and 1 Airmail center in the last 2 years and the BMC has changed it's classification and all the plants that remain have almost elinated day shift all together.(Most day shift people were excessed to other shifts)
But the most scary part of all this recent activity hear in Detroit is the way management went after our senioe senority clerks.. They terminated all transfer clerk and expeditor bids then put thses senior clerks in a "waiting room".. Basically, they reported to the cafateria of the GWY facility and sat their for 8 hours, some still remain. This was managements way of force retiring a bunch of senior senority employees when that pathetic buy-out was offered. This was also a ploy for management to get around the union.. By having them sit there and get paid for 8 hours with no assignment it showed that the Post office didn't need those bids anymore and therfore never reposted them.. The sad part is is that all the work og those bids are being performed by junior seniority clerks who have no bid! What a union!

So much for me moving to Norfolk. I read somewhere that the FSS are supposed to be up and running 4/2010 in Richmond. Is Norfolk a large facility? Do you guys have a lot of MHs? Norfolk MH, do you really think your building can be shut down?

There has been rumors about the Norfolk P&DC moving 2 of their AFSM 100 machines to Richmond when the FSS are up and running. There are rumors of excessing and moving SPBS machines as well. As far as the city wanting the building, that is true, they do want it back when the lease is up. Will be interesting to see what actually happens there.
