Is this the same video store clerk who had a piece on
NPR's _This American Life_ a week or two ago? Seems
similar.
Edit:
Yup. Scrolled down a bit and one of the same stories is
there: Lube Warning. Seems like it was edited a bit for
radio.

Even though I'm sure that few porn store clerks
and their customers would notice or care...
has anyone noticed that there doesn't seem to
be any comprehensive classification system
for filing porn videos on the shelf?
Certainly, the Dewey decimal system wouldn't
cover (most of )it...and one could argue for the
"sameness" of porn...but still...

According to the author, the industry is aware of this classification oversight and is attempting to rectify the problem with its own titling method. Generally, it follows a pattern of race, performance, series number; to wit: Asian Analfest XXV. This is inherently flawed. A film such as Hot Oral Sluts II likely contains ethnically-diverse participants, any of whom may feel their status is minimized if an ethnic reference other than their own appears in the title. But it is a cry for help. To organize the main corpus, leading with race is reasonable since diversity could be designated as Mixed Hot Oral Sluts II. The rest could be separately alphabetized for notable performers, anime, mature, fisting, mechanical, cheerleader, vegetables, office supply, baked goods and Other. Both farm and zoo would fall under animals.

Wow, I am hooked on this weblog! What a find. The writing really just solders me firmly to the story. It's fascinating how this person is reluctantly part of this whole world, yet it's clear she's drawing creativity from it.
