I'd love to go back to school! It would be so nice! I wish I had the ability to do so right now!

but Cabrillo's horticulture motto: Salvias are our speciality

That just sounds a little strange... hehe

You go for it! I changed careers at 28 and then again at 40. It's a good thing. And, when you're ready...please come up to Olympia, WA and fix my yard. It's an acre of big mess!

Coolness! It's good that you're exploring new careers instead of turning into some old bitty waiting for retirement.

Good luck Bonnie!

Good for you, Bonnie. My dad changed careers & went back to school in his late 50s, so it's really not a big deal to do it at 30. And studying someone you obviously love so much sounds great. Congratulations.

Good for you!! 30 is an excellent time to make a career decision -- you've had 12 years of adulthood to find yourself. But, as John Lennon wrote in "Baby, You're a Rich Man:" "Now that you know who you are...what do you want to be?" I've always felt that people should be 30-35 MINIMUM before they make major decisions about life and career -- I don't think any of us are mature enough to lock ourselves into anything before that. Unfortunately, life, reality, and bills usually intervene.

Have fun in the dirt -- I've been stuck in an apartment for the last 15 years and really miss getting outside and digging, weeding, mulching, planting, watering, etc. It's good for the soul and very therapeutic. And if you can find a way to make money at it -- well, you've hit the mother lode. "Do what you love, and the money will follow..."

I just turned thirty as well - and am at a stage of trying to figure out what to do after getting laid-off. The job market is HORRIBLE.

I think 30 is a good time to look at a new set of directions - who said life would only have one map?

We hit the Cabrillo plant sale every year, cuz they have tons and tons of plants... especially Salvias, at pretty good prices. Good luck, Bonnie.

by the way -- thank you all for sending me emails and postings of support.

This is a pretty big deal to me, and I'm nervous about it, but I think it's the right move for me.

I'm so obsessed with plants I might as well be paid for it, right?

Bonnie - I was 32 when I had my first career change, from Philosophy to Web. Now I'm 39, unemployed, and I'm both writing a novel and applying to do an MBA. Not my first career transition, and I expect it won't be the last! Good on you for experimenting, taking a risk, and pursuing something you love.
p.s. I used to watch Teletunes all the time, but I think it was about 10 yrs before you were on it.
