Big congrats! Whraaaaaaaaaahhh! (that's my crowd giving you a standing ovation and thunderous applause)

I was missing from the "distinguished faculty" because--thankfully--we're only required to attend commencement once a year. This is a good thing, since I don't think I could manage to sit through more than one commencement in any given year--particularly wearing that *really* hot regalia. If you think *your* gown is uncomfy and hot, try wearing a *real* robe designed originally by monks who were doing all of their work in drafty, nothern English monastaries! At any rate, I do commencement in August, but I didn't think it was appropriate to ask you to wait a couple of months just so I could see you graduate. . . but again, I'm so proud of you! Let me hear from you soon.

Update: Commencement went as expected--hour after hour. Only Pearl Harbor was more miserable.

Keith was missing from our distinguished faculty, an absense that was surely missed.

You didn't just limp through higher education like so many of your contemporaries, you absolutely kicked its ass. Took some tough classes, did good work, got the grades. Just nailed it to the wall.

You are officially An Educated Woman now, but you probably didn't need a pretty piece of paper to tell you that.

You're a damn good writer. You will do great things, and I predict today's degree won't be your last.

In a few hours I'll be graduating from college. Go me. It took two universities, an internet startup and nine years.... :)
