Dear Ragbrai Teams,

This is a message to invite you to participate in Bike MS 150. Riders pedal over 150 miles in two days through the rolling hills of the majestic Cedar Valley to raise awareness and funds to create a world free of MS. The ride begins in historic countryside of Atkins, Iowa and continues on the Iowa Plaines through Newhall, Van Horne, Keystone, Elberon, Vining, Clutier, and Garwin. The bike ends in the sprouting city of Marshalltown, Iowa. This year will mark the 2nd year for this fundraising bike ride. Riders will be treated to breakfast each morning, complimentary food and beverages at various rest stops about every 8-10 miles along the route, as well as a team of bike repair experts, and plenty of support vehicles. Lunch is provided at a rest stop each day and music, a variety of food, massages, and excited cheering crowds and free beverages await the riders at the finish line. On Saturday evening, a banquet is held for all riders, volunteers, and their families. Come and ride for a cause, ride for a cure..

Can you find it? Hints- it's a "mouseover" event and it's not too pretty...

Sun. 7/23 Seargeant Bluff > Ida Grove

Tue. 7/25 Audubon > Waukee
Wed 7/26 Waukee > Newton

BTW - Most of the the Team NAD internal communication is done through yahoo groups email, but I still like to post and look for posts here occasionally.

BE sure to hit the Lakewood Ballroom and Night Club in Lake View! They will have everything there. Camping, Showers, Food, THE MUD PUPPIES for a live band. Cold Beer (including Miller Lite which you will not find in the offical beer garden!), Drinks. It is about a mile and a half from the main area... but it is right on the map as the route to take getting out of town the next morning! The Boeckmans are great people... please support them!

I'm sure that your research is very thorough but we just wanted to make sure that you've got the Coral Reef at Twin Lakes, Iowa included on the bar list. The ride goes by there after Rockwell City on Monday. The band "Standing Hampton" will be playing from 1-5. $2 beers. Vodka Lemonades. Po'boys-Brats-Pork Sandwiches. 6 miles north of RC. Should be a good time!!

The t-shirts are a go! Sara and I put together a bar list and will get it posted, soon. We'd hate to disappoint those who visit our site for the research!
See you at a bar!

Since it's been a whole year since anyone has posted, seems like a fine time to throw some words on here.

For those who are not on the Team NAD email list, this year Shawn is getting custom Team NAD bike jerseys made (cool!). It's still up for debate whether there is enough interest in having the traditional t-shirts too. Tough call- on the one hand there's the tradition of listing the bars on the t-shirts. On the other hand, if you already have a closet full of NAD shirts, and enough to wear a different one everyday of RAGBRAI... well- I'm on the fence.

Another though choice for me- To catch the beginning of RAGBRAI, I'll have to miss my 20 year high school reunion. Some of the old pals in Davenport say "RAGBRAI is every year but there's only one 20 year reunion." True, but we're talking about RAGBRAI here! I think RAGBRAI wins.

Otis.

Hey everybody, Anthony is planning on riding the big ride this year. He thinks we should have a pool on how long he lasts. His only requirement is that he gets the pot if he completes it. (I don't know how he'll smoke it all himself, though)

Any one working on a research ride, yet?

I can't believe it's almost June. I've got a lot of riding to do. Can't be slow on the new ride. You'll all laugh me off the team.

PSA:
Additional bar information is pouring into my email from all corners of the globe. Well, just from a RAGBRAI enthusist Rolf Aronsen (who, research shows, is also an attorney in Mason City). I thought I'd throw it out here because the information could be useful. Knowledge is power.

According to Rolf:

Forest City:
I know of two additional bars in Forest City. The VIP Lounge is on highway
69 a block south of the intersection with Highway 9 has a large capacity.
Also next to the Winnebago campgrounds there is the Lodge an upscale
restaruant with a large bar in the basement. Both are nicer than the
Sportsman if that is a concern.

Charles City:
Tori's this will be the party bar. Its by the river.
Retlaw's good sports bar.
Home Base smaller quiet bar (usually)
Bowling Alley good food and good time.
Sherm's Place big and fun

Fight the power.

It's the year 2002 2000SI CAAD5 Frame. Orange to yellow to white fade. The guy got the frame from a friend who works for Cannondale then he built the rest. He said it ended up being to big for him. I think he needed quick cash.

Me: No, I mean a bar called the County Seat.

Team NAD slogans of years past:

2001
There's nothing worse than a bunch of smelly NADs.
(I heard this was supposed to read 'sweaty' NADs

2000
10 years with the NADs.

1999
Not Against Drinking.

1998
We've done the homework.

1997
It's 2:00 AM do you know where your NADs are?

1996
Support your local NADs/ Bust a nut with the NADs.

1995
Tastes like chicken!

1994
We can drink all we want... we're freaks!

?year?
Get back in that bar!

?year?
It's a NAD, NAD, NAD, NAD world.

Here are some ideas for NAD slogans that Peeg dreamed up this year:

Yep, there's the NADs, I wonder if there is any beer in that can.
(What? You've never seen "The River's Edge"???)

Green NADs and ham.

Are those the NADs or are they just happy to see me?

When the going gets tough the NADs go drinkin'.

A sight for sore NADs.

Biking shorts don't do the NADs justice.

I'll bet you've been drinking of some good ideas too! Let us know!!

How to ride RAGBRAI like a NAD: (Please consult a physician before starting any bicycling and drinking regimen. He or she will tell you not to.)

*Sleep in as late as you can. You can make up for the extra sleep time by increasing your average speed between bar stops. Starting late is no excuse for skipping a bar!

*When you get to the first town check your NAD T-shirt to see what the official NAD Bar Stop is. Make sure you are looking at this year's T-shirt. This town (and all following towns as well) shall be referred to as “Stinktown”. Spend all your money buying rounds in the bar.

*If there is no alcohol in Stinktown just get on your bikes and ride.

*If the bar is closed or just plain boring find a gas station to buy a case of beer. If this goes over well, continue to buy cases of beer until the gas station runs out.

*Even if there is still some alcohol left in Stinktown it is only courteous to leave when the local residents start to appear bored by the spectacle (hint: they stop asking you where you are from).

*Get to the next town as quickly as possible. Draft off of Chuckie if possible. I'm sure he won't mind.

*Repeat last 5 steps until you see the NAD bus.

*You have made it to the last bar stop before the overnight town. The NAD bus is here and you have two options: Throw your bike on the bus on and enjoy the ride into town (easy and enjoyable); OR Ride your bike into the last town as the sun is setting (difficult and painful). If you are leaning toward riding the bus then you are thinking too clearly and need to impair your judgement buy buying another round. Repeat until you are on your bike.

*Wish that you had lights on your bike and think about bringing some tomorrow (but don’t do anything about it.)

*Arrive in Stinktown set up tent, shower, find bar, sleep, but not always in that order.

Go back to first step.

Hello anyone and everyone. Please feel free to use this Team NAD bulletin board to post anything that is relevent to Team NAD, the Team NAD website, RAGBRAI or other bike rides and events. It is my hope that we can have some lively participation and contributions from team members and others who are just surfing in from the website.

Also- RIDE YOUR BIKE! THE POOR THING IS GETTING LONELY OUT THERE IN THE GARAGE ALL BY ITSELF! (actually that message is just for myself because I'm sure everyone else has already logged marathon miles in the saddle, right?)
