Hey everyone. Well, I hope everyone's papers are going well. I tried several times to dive into mine...I hoped to have it done by today but I'm having the hardest time getting past the thesis. I might decide on a different topic if I think of a better one and if this one doesn't progress soon. I know that once I get the research done and my opening paragraph, especially the thesis, written out that my paper will go smoothly after that. Anyway, gotta go. Good luck to everyone. Bye.

I finally got on here! I have been having server problems and of all days, it would act up now. Anyway, I just wanted to say that this class was tops! Not only did I learn some interesting facts, but it taught me how to critically look at different topics and come to my own conclusions. Christina has been great as a teacher--and I do mean TEACHER. Most people can instruct, but it takes a special person to be able to teach. I felt that she let us come to our own conclusions with gentle nudges in the ways to do that. Thanks, Christina, for making "just another English class" anything but! For those of you who may have forgotten what my paper is about, it is on the myths and realities of changing family values. It has been interesting to find out that the persons who most often use those terms, are politicians. And they usually use "traditional" in front of those words. Needless to say, finding out what people mean when speaking about family values varies by family. It is extremely subjective. But it has given me food for thought and I, too, am almost done with my paper. It will be good to have it completed. It has been great to meet all of you and I hope to have the opportunity to see you all again.Happy Summer!!

This quarter really has flown by. It seems like just yesterday I was beginning this class. Although I am glad the quarter is coming to an end, I really enjoyed taking this class. I found all of the readings and discussions to be really interesting. I enjoyed all of the writing assingments as well. This class was definetly one of my easier classes this quarter, but I feel that I still learned a lot and got a lot from it.
As far as my paper is concerned, I am writing my paper about divorce. So far I have found a lot of interesting data and the paper is coming along quite well.

If anyone forgot, my paper is about how members of non-American families perceive American families.
I initially thought that researching this topic would prove to be very difficult, but, once I found the right keywords to enter, I found a lot of things that can be helpful. One book in particular, Educating Andy, is about an American family in Japan and the son's experiences connecting with other children in Japan.
Another book I found is a journal from a Mexican man after moving to America and some of the things he thinks about Americans.
Even with the help of these books, the majority of my paper will focus more on interviews with people I have met in person.

This quarter feels like it flew by. I really enjoyed this English class. I learned far more than I expected to in terms of social issues and arguments. I also learned a great deal about how to create a well-written argument with support. I really liked the way the information was taught, and I enjoyed reading and discussing others essays. It really opened my eyes in a lot of respects.

I have to agree. I really enjoyed this English course as well. I cae to the class with the same expectations that many others had...to submit many papers and reflections, receive criticism from the instructor, and revising. Yet, as we all found out, this class definitely did not fit into that norm. And this is a good thing! It becomes so much more of a learning experience when it is interactive and the instructor is open to discussion. This English class was a very good experience. I hope others get to have it as well.

This quarter has gone by so fast! I cannot believe that finals are here and summer break is appraoching. I really enjoyed this English class. In my opinion, Christina let us view different subject matters concerning the American family and encouraged us to think outside the box and to make assumptions about the American family by comparing and contrasting ethics, economics, morals, race, creed, and religion. This was a topic that we all relate to. This wasn't the typical English class and that is what I enjoyed about it. About the paper...I am having trouble. I am finding so much information that it is hard to figure out what I can/should use. My thesis is to explain the facts about gay/lesbian parenting. I am not sure how persausive it will be. I have my outline and quotes on note cards and all the research. The hard part is filling in the gaps. Well I have a couple minutes before I have to go to class. I enjoyed this quarter. Have a safe and happy summer y'all.

Yes, this quarter did go by pretty fast, but I am glad it is over. I am putting the finishing touches on my paper and soon I will be done as well. For an 8 am class, this class was interesting, entertaining at times and I learned alot. However, I wonder why we stopped watching the sitcoms.

Well, I must say that this semester has really flown-by fast. It was nice to have the small class as I mentioned previously, and made learning more fun as you got to know most everyone that was anywhere near sociable. I have completed my paper on immigrant workers, and how they are affecting America. As I researched this topic, I found views of concern on this issue, from all races and levels of society, especially after September 11. Americans are taking a closer look at immigration, and if it is really good for America. The main concern stems from the alleged all being foreign individuals.
