I've checked several biker event calendars and see that there isn't much going on on Sunday, July 29th, so I've decided to reschedule the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project Charity Poker Run for that date, Sunday, July 29th. Hopefully, nothing else will come up that causes a major conflict with this event.

I will post more information as that becomes available....

Hey guys and gals. Anyone happen to have saved the pic of the vest recommendations? Thought I had it and I do not. Seems to be not working on the site. Any help you can give me would be great.

Also noticed the minute taking at the meeting the other day. Sorry I did not get the young ladies name. Knowing me I heard it and being so bad with names I forgot it but..... Anyway can someone please send out a "proposed by laws" document. We have a NOVA Riders Meeting on Sunday and I would LOVE to be able to have it ready for Grady to present it to the 50 or so folks in the area that did not make the trip. Be nice to put it up here of if you want to email me off group you can do so at hdshaw@gmu.edu.

Thanks in advance for both pieces of help.

8th is the ALR National Music City Romp. Some time, I think, in July was the big event just across the border into West Virginia at a ski resort somewhere. I also the 1st is the Ashburn FD Poker Run. 13-15 is Gettysburg Bike Week and 12-15 July is our Department event in Falls Church.
There are several good events calendars out there to look for conflicts. http://www.lets-ride.com/event/virginia.htm is one of them. I would check those and area HOG calendars. You are not going to not conflict with something especially in the summer months but major events such as a multi chapter HOG meeting should be thought about.

Thanks for all of your replies to this point. I was hoping I would not run into too many event conflicts and unfortunately, I have. So, I'm working on moving the date of the LHCP Charity Poker Run to a Sunday in July. I'm looking at the following dates in July: 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. Does anybody know of a potential conflict with any of these dates?

I'm a Harley ride as well and realize I can't compete with a Harley only party/event. It's kind of like a mini-national rally.

Thanks for your input....

The 30th is a tough day for me as well. That is the multi-chapter HOG picnic day as well. I am sure that will draw a lot of people out of the area as it is the 1st ever event. I will do my best though but I had previously committed to the HOG event.

Mark you calendars now for the Ride Now Autism Poker Run cosponsored by the folks at Northern Virginia and at Post 177. July 22nd is the date. The run will start at JVs Restaurant 6666 Arlington Blvd in Falls Church and will end at the Legion Post 177 in Fairfax. The Northern Virginia American Legion Riders will be helping in the organization of the run and in the "after party" at the post. Live band, food, bike washes by the hogettes and hooters girls, and icy cold beverages will all be available. Several custom builders and other vendors have also expressed interest in being on hand. Make plans to be there and support this very worthy cause. We are honored to have been asked to help this cause. This is a NATIONAL event with other runs scheduled in Philly, LA, and Chicago throughout the year. For information and registration go to www.canridenow.org. Please help us and Cure Autism Now by spreading the word about this event and this worthy cause.

We are going to be starting up a new ALR chapter here in Virginia and would like to know if anyone/another chapter has put together a good ALR manual for conducting meetings, duties of officers, organizing rides (procedures, hand signals, etc.). I moved up from Texas ALR and we had a real good manual for this, but it was taken from our meeting room. Before I go reinventing the wheel, I thought someone out there could help us out. Maybe you have one or know some website that has something we could use our at least build on. Thanks

I forgot to check in here. Oh well only been a week. I did not ride it home because it was purchased through fax/mail from Barnett's in ElPaso, TX. I ALMOST did jump on a plane a couple weeks ago. I was very tempted. Barnett's is about 24-30 hours drive away. However, the update is that the bike is in hand as of yesterday. Wooo Hoo.

Hi Eric,
What are ya doin' in Kuwait? Geez, that was a shock! Are ya drivin' a yellow truck for the Kuwaities? (lol) Hope all is well! I would love to work over there. How exciting. Well, haven't talked to you in ages, seems like yesterday when we put up those Christmas lights at Tony's house. I moved out of there a while ago. Hope you had a bee-u-tee-ful Christmas and have a happy and healthy new year. I am doing fine, working in DC and moved to MD. Livin' on a boat (actually, I rented a space at the Marina so I still have most of my stuff). Weathered the hurricane in Sept and don't mind the cold one bit! We got heat - propane, butane, electric, solar, dc etc. Kinda self sufficient. It's okay for now. Learning a little about sailing and get to eat crabs most weekends in season so that's cool. Don't have a tub. Kinda miss that one. The marina has excellent facilities, laundry, showers etc and the water is really hot, just ain't the same as soaking in a warm bath with candles and a good book. Take care my friend, hope to hear from ya soon! Donna : )

Eric,

Thanks for the reply, I am in the process of presenting the info I have collected (including a copy of your groups by-laws)to our 1st. Vice Commander. I feel positive that he will be inagreement on starting a Legion Riders group. I will keep you posted on my progress.

Hey, remember to keep your head down over there.. You guys are my Hero's, Thanks for protecting us and the good Ole USA. Just remember the Cops creed, " You be the one who goes home at the end of your tour".

You will be riding with me in my thoughts until you return. Then I would like to take a ride with you. Keep in touch as time permits.

Stay Safe,
Amos

Hey there, it's fairly easy to start a program. any existing ALR post has a set of by laws you can copy. in virginia contact Randy Shrader. present them to your post and get the program accepted. help around the post, district, and dept. in no time you'll be another up and rolling ALR in national. if i was back in America I could be a little more help. i am still in kuwait and will be here til march.

BEST OF LUCK.

Happy Holidays to all of you riders.
Where is everybody? I have been on the road alot this year with my job, and have not heard about any Riders events.
I rode to Alaska this past summer, on the job at that, it was a blast.
Let's keep the American Legion Riders of Virginia going.

Virginia Rider Training Program. I strongly suggest all Riders take this course. There are 2 levels to the program. The beginners and the experienced riders course. There is not only a lot to learn, you get a discount on your bike insurance. Call Northern Virginia Community College, call DMV, or check the web page at www.msf-usa.org . for dates and a campus near you. If enough of us want to take the Experienced Rider Course I can set a date and we can have the range to ourselves. The minimum requirement is that you have 2k miles on your bike you are going to take the course on. There is in classroom training as well as time on the driving range. I am an instructor for the beginners class in Virginia.
