Yeah I read it in college too while I was dating some depressed musician. It was weird to feel so connected to fictional characters in Compo's book.

La Loca's book was given to me the summer after I graduated from high school. I took a college creative writing class because of that book...but realized that you don't learn poetry in classes, but from the poets you admire and respect. I wish I knew more about La Loca and if she's still writing or not. Anyone here have any info on her?

Wow, I read "Life & Death & Other Stories" back in college. Loved it. Sadly, it was borrowed from a friend, so I haven't reread it, & it exists for me in the mists of my memory.

I suddenly feel old.

right now I'm pretty excited to read Exene Cervenka's new book "A Beer on Every Page."
