If you go to the TLC Trading Spaces site and click "Email Us" on the left side of the window you can send an email to whoever gets them, who will then forward it to the person you want it to go to. Make sure you put the persons name in the subject of the email. I didn't get a response from her though, and I know that she was on the computer the other day. I don't know if I haven't heard from her yet because she didn't have time or if they haven't forwarded it to her, or what. I did get a general e-mail from her though because I'm in a Yahoo Gen fan club and she sent an email to the moderator who sent it to all the memebers. I hope that helps! Let me know if you want links to anything I've mentioned. Oh and artgirl, Gen isn't a lesbian. She addressed that in the email I got. She says that it's no one's business but she "be likin' the boys." She was on that show because at the time she worked for MTV. I haven't seen it cuz I don't watch MTV but I guess they've been rerunning it a lot lately. I'll have to try and catch it sometime.

I stumbled across this by searching on Google. I think it's cool that Genevieve posted on here. I sent her an e-mail and I can't wait to hear back from here. Man, I must seem like a stalker or something. LOL I sent her an e-mail, joined a Yahoo fan group, and now I'm signing this. LOL She's my role model though. I'm going thru a really obsessive stage right now I guess.
Have any of you been on Trading Spaces or sent in an application? I'm just wondering how hard it is to get on the show.

I heard that she is gay, I think that that is amazingly great. She is talented and beautifull and I know I have a crush on her. So does my girlfriend LOL. We were watching an old sex in the 90's episode and she was on talking about lesbianism. I don't want to answer for her but I believe she is.

Hi all!
Just got done visiting TLC's site. See the "summer secrets" they posted there on the crew? Interesting...(See comment for Gen below - gleened it off the secret stuff for her)
Gen, Frank and Vern's idea's and final products I like the best. They also seem to be the most "people friendly" of the group, along with Laurie.

Say Gen, if your out there - Mac's rule! Own one myself for work (graphic communications), and when this tired 'ole IBM at home finally coughs up it's last code, it will be replaced with the user friendly G4. Thought you might of owned one when I saw some of your reproductions of photo's on the show...

I enjoy these postings! I enjoy the show! Keep up the good work! :o)

Hey, this is to Gen if she still reads this board-
Do you work with other designers in your company or is it just you? Also, how would someone get in touch with you if they were interested in hiring you?
Thanx,
    art girl

Hey all, I just stumbled onto this page and thought it was a great forum. I am a huge fan of the show, especially Gen's designs. So do all of the cast members read this forum or just Gen? I think it is so great that she posted here. How did that happen?

As usual, I'm a total late adopter of the trend, but I have to thank Bonnie for turning me onto Trading Spaces. I hope it’s not too late to get my two very wordy cents in, because it has quickly become “The Show We Love to Hate” for many of the reasons listed in everyone else’s posts and my boyfriend and I are engrossed by it. We don’t have cable; actually, we don’t have any TV reception whatsoever, so my parents tape the show for us and we go on little TS binges every now and then. It’s fun to scream at the TV: “Don’t take down the fan! They live in KEY WEST!” It’s also fun to wonder what these rooms are going to look like one month, six months, 12 months out. Someone should do a documentary about TS participants after whatever contract they probably had to sign with the clause that probably says that they can’t talk about or independently photograph and publish pictures of the rooms runs out. I think that would be interesting.

The main problems I have with the show:
  • No one ever shows the participants the proper way to paint. People just randomly slop paint onto the walls in the most inefficient manner. The designers should know how to paint and they should show these people how to do it, or the people who run the show could have a little segment where painters show people how to paint. It’s an embarrassment to the remodeling and crafting industry. They should all be ashamed of themselves.
  • What is the deal with the melodrama? In many episodes, they spend more time creating little soap operas among the unsuspecting neighbors or fleshing out the personas of the designers than they do describing the techniques they are using to design the rooms. Granted, they have a website with lots of information, but do we ever hear anyone say, “You can find instructions for this technique on our website!”? No. I realize that there are people who are actually interested in these designers and the details of their little lives, but the show would be more useful and interesting if it presented more DIY tips and ideas instead of visions into the psyches of its characters.

Other than that, I really enjoy the show. I have been known to get almost weepy myself when the homeowners open their eyes and are so happy with their new rooms that they start to cry (well, the women).

My favorite TS moment: Doug is in North Carolina and he’s outside making something to go into the bedroom that he had the couple project the Oriental image onto the blue wall and then trace on with chalk and then paint over with white paint, and then he made the bed post out of PVC tubing that he painted black – that episode. Well, he’s outside with the husband and a plastic bag floats by and cocky Doug asks, “Is this yours?” and the guy doesn’t miss a beat, he picks it up and says in his cute little North Carolina drawl, all soft and unpretentious-like, “Yeah, but I usually keep it in my pocket.” That shut Doug up real quick.
