The Mark V. Shaney program passed the Turing Test in the mid 80s by generating considerable netnews discussion about "if he was real ... or just an AI project from those whacky guys at Bell Labs".

I've posted a bet if anyone cares to take it (regarding supplemental memory devices by Greg Webster).

The universe might expand forever, if the velocity of its expansion is fast enough to overcome the pull of gravity (which is proportional to the inverse sqaure of the distance.)
It's like escape velocity. If you throw something with sufficient speed away from the earth, it'll never come back.

Uhh, "the universe will stop expanding *sometime*"
Is this platform going to still be in existance when this could be proveable?

Sorry -- no offense meant. Squillionaire in this instance means "someone whose next twenty five paychecks aren't committed to paying of credit-card debt." And that 20K bet is pretty intimidating, dude.

I was hoping you'd 2click on the bet I made with Martin Nisenholz. It seems relevant to what we both do (you and I).
BTW, I doubt if Martin or I qualify as "squillionaire." I had a lot more money a few years ago than I do now. I think Martin basically has a good job, probably pays very well, but I doubt if he's rich. Anyway, why does that matter. Are the ideas good? Interesting? Stimulate any thought? Do you have aspirations for weblogs? Where is this stuff going?
