Infinite JestIf your smart enough to get it, and you definitely seem to be, this book will forever change the way you see the world. It's big and thick and it's work to slog through, but it's worth it.

Jon, I like little more than a challenge, so thanks to you I'm out $12. That amazon.com one-click shopping will not defeat me next time, what with my new world outlook and all.

Whoa. Infinite Jest just arrived in my mailbox and at first I thought I had mistakenly ordered the hard cover copy by the weight and size of the package.

Noooooo.

I got the soft-cover copy as I had originally thought, I was just unaware the book was over 1000 pages long.

Brittney, if you're still reading American Gods and Me Talk Pretty One Day, I have a suggestion: Listen to them. They are both great on audiobook. Me Talk is really the way it should be, with Sedaris reading his shorts or performing them live. And Gods, which is a long read to slog through, is brilliant on audio. A fellow named George Guidall performs it, and he is incredible. Absolutely great. Gods probably got me hooked on audiobooks for my daily commute, and I haven't matched it yet.

(Tell you the truth, I was a little disappointed in Gaimen when he did Neverwhere, as his prose didn't exactly shine. But he was surely accustomed to having other people realize his images for him in comics and on the screen, and he has improved much since.)

'Friday' and 'The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress' by Robert Heinlein. Or maybe Heinlien. I can never remember...

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. My personal favorite book, for content, style, and meaning.

'Shogun' by James Clavell is my all-time favorite book. Adventure, war, heroics, dispair and romance.

Hey Brittney...Check out The Lexus and the Olive Tree by Thomas Friedman. It is a book on globalization. Very interesting stuff. He wrote for the NY Times for a long time.
