You know, I'd love to track down this cartoon I remember from the 70s - I can't even find the name - perhaps he was called LineMan in some other language? The cartoon was very minimalist, mostly just a black screen with a horizontal line and the man was sort of integrated into the line - he would "walk along" and talk in a high-pitched voice in what I believe was nonsense syllables (I guess it could have been foreign, though), mostly squawking with outrage at things that would happen to him. It was Portugese or Italian or Spanish maybe?

Anyone?

Found him!

Wow, now that both Col. Bleep and Winky Dink are available on videotape, I can pathetically wallow in childhood amusements!

Wasn't Col. Bleep some big-head space traveller? He was circa Crusader Rabbit and Rags, the prototypes for Rocky and Bullwinkle. I think TVs had doors then.

JIM, there's a discussion about Jot on www.yesterland.com. Do a search and look under "messages." Some collector is offering a videotape.

Why do I remember Jot being a girl . . . circle?

I didn't imagine Col. Bleep. (About half the people posting "memories" on yesterland, including Douglas Rushkoff, had the same worry about the show.)

Toon Tracker doesn't have anything on Col. Bleep. I'm seriously worried I imagined him. Zero-zero Island, cave man, puppet . . . does that sound familiar to anyone? Please?

Wow, they used to show Jot on Peppermint Place, a kids show with puppets and animation here in the Dallas / Ft Worth area when I was a wee lad.

completing the Circle of Wierd Irony, Mr Peppermint, the host of this show, is also the father of Gibby Hanes, lead singer of butthole surfers.

JOT! AHHHH! FLASHBACK!

I wonder if she was related to Col. Bleep. He was another Round Head and Not Much Else cartoon character.

Man, I watched too much TV as a kid.

I like Bonnie as well. She just suits my own sort of quirky interests.

I'm guessing we have a little, tiny troller in Rob.

Another fan of Bonnie here. Maybe someday there can even be a microblog within her tiny blog. That would be pretty cool.

I've kept a quicktime of that Worker and Parasite animation for years. It's great. What I'd really love to get my hands on are some quicktimes of that old surreal Baptist cartoon, Jot. It was awesome. Jot would have these existential psychedelic nightmares over disobeying his parents or something. It was like an animation that Davey and Goliath would make after dropping whole blotter sheets.

Another thumbs up for BB.

What's especially wonderful about "Worker and Parasite:" Eastern Europe actually did turn out a lot of funky, surreal, avant-garde 'toons in the 60s and 70s. They turned up now and then on PBS.

I don't remember 'em being strident or propagandistic, but some of them were damn strange. Which makes me sympathize with Krusty. ("What the HELL was THAT?")
