Hi Folks
Don't get much chance to update this these days as I'm not spending so much time on the hill. Basically, I blame the day job! Maybe I'll ressurect this at some stage in the very near future but it would appear there are so many message boards, and places where you can pick up a weather forecast that it seems a little pointless. Please direct any questions or queries to me at malcolm@creasey5781.freeserve.co,uk Many thanks

Still warm, wild, wet and windy. Nothing happening yet in North Wales as far as winter conditions are concerned. It's back to splish, splash, splosh on the hills. Speak soon. Mal

Still wild wet and windy, and similar in Scotland so the news has it. See you there in a couple of weeks.

It's wild, wet and windy for the next few days. the snow and ice have gone so it's back to normal! Scotland is still looking 'early' season after the snowfall of last week which promptly got washed down the Glen! Lets hope it improves! Speak Soon. Mal

Hi Folks
Still not much snow in North Wales but the ice is building nicely. Heard on the grapevine that some routes were done today in the Brecons but no other details. Looks like it could warm up for the weekend but there should still be some white stuff around!
Cheers Mal

Sunday and Monday promise to be fine and dry. There is a light snow cover over the hills and some ice is starting to develop, ridges and butresses will over the best scrambling conditions. Tuesday looks like being much windier and bitterly cold on the tops. Have a good day! Mal

It's mild, windy and wet for the most part of the holiday so far! Not too bad this afternoon but pretty wet underfoot! Looks like Saturday will provide the best day but that could change! I'll update things over the next couple of days! There is no snow on the hills so no need for any axes or crampons, just waterproofs! Cheers Mal

North Wales is surprisingly warm for the time of year. Needless to say the snow has all gone, unless you count the odd isolated patches of white soggy stuff that decorate the hillside ocasionally! Merry Chritmas to all! Mal

The higher ridges above 2,800 feet plastered in snow and the hills looked great today. There's a good frost tonight and tomorrow is forecast clear and sunny but it wont last! Might be a bit of something left on Saturday morning but, warm and wet by Sunday! Cheers Mal
Mal Creasey  69
12-13-2002 05:19 PM ET (US)
The higher ridges are covered in a mixture of light snow and verglas (iced up rocks) which are making conditions trecherous in places. Allow extra time if attempting Crib Goch or anything else above about 2. 800 feet. One North Wales 'classic' ice route recieved it's first ascent of the winter today but be warned. They were a very strong and experienced team but even so, the crux pitch took two hours to lead! Scary, Scary was the verdict from one of the boys!!
Cheers Mal

Hi Folks
North Wales is dry and cold. The Ice routes are beginning to show even low down in the 'Pass' but not thick enough yet, even for an 'exciting' ascent. Will keep you posted over the next few days.Mal

Hi All A little covering of snow on the hill above about 2,8oo feet. Very icy and slippery in places but not really worth crampons or axes at the moment! Very cold easterly wind over exposed slopes so take something windproof! I'll keep you informed. Thanks. Mal

North Wales is currently dry and a pleasent Autumnal morning is in prospect but don't leave it to long!! Rain is due again later today! Well done to the lads on the Three Peaks yesterday!

This is for Martin and Mark who with two others are doing the 3 peaks over the next couple of days. Brave lads doing it in November! I did try to E mail you guys but it came right back to me! Expects some cold and blustery winds from the North West for The 'Ben', and the possobility of snow showers above about 2000 feet. Later on Thursday the winds will die down a little and turn more south westerly so it will be warmer, but wetter! Underfoot conditions will be wet but that is not a major problem on Snowdon! Best of Luck!! Mal

Very wild, wet and windy. I should think that even Tremadog is a little beyond the pale today. I've just got back from 34 weeks in Nepal so my apologies if things have not been updated on this site during my absence, hopefully that will improve a little from now on as I plan to be around for most of the autumn. Things were not so good in Nepal either, lots of fresh snow in the Rowaling region accompanied by strong winds at times. Lote hope we get some decent weather over the next few weeks. Mal

Message for John Hamilton. The Snowdon area comprises many different rock types. Mostly Volcanic origin with Rhyolite and Dolerite being the most common. The two types can be clearly seen from Pont y Gromlech in the Llanberis Pass. Looking towrda Crib Goch, the crags known as Dinas Mot have a smoother central 'nose' which is Rhyolite and darker, rougher much more vegitated 'wings'. These are Dolerite. It is also worth noting that the summit of Snowdon itself is the remains of an extinct volcano. Hope this helps you, if you want to know more, ask a geologist! Cheers, Mal

The first significant rain for three weeks and that was yesterday whilst I was on the hill with a group of kids! Real Welsh rain and lots of it. It was a shock to the system! It was promised fine today but it the moment it is decidedly grey and unpromising. Should be an interesting day in Beddgelert tomorrow (Sat) with a 'Sustainabilty Fair'

It's still dry and sunny this morning although with a cool breeze. The high crags are dry and even the Moelwyns were pretty dry underfoot this weekend. Not sure how long it's going to last for though before the Autumn monsoon starts so grab a quick break before it changes'

Weather in the Alps has so far been very mixed. Today is particularly wet and next week looks fairly unsettled. Around Saas Fee and the eastern Valais there is a good deal more snow than the Chamonix region where the glaciers already have an end of season look.

Just got back from the Alps the other day and it's a 'dry' season. Already there is very little snow on the glaciers so I would suggest there are going to be a number of bad rockfalls this year. Weather up to now has been a little mixed and it seems to be settling in to a pattern of a few fine days and then a thunder storm or two. I'll be out there again next week so I'll try and update this from time to time. If you happen to be around Chamonix or Saas Fee in the next few weeks, look out for me! Cheers Mal

It's quite warm and mostly dry this afternooon although still with a cool breeze. Cool and showery this weekend which will be good for the competitors on the Snowdonia Charity Challenge. Cycle from Llanberis to the Rhyd Ddu path, run up and down Snowdon and then cycle up the Nant Gwynant and over Pen y Pass for a Canoe round Llyn Padarn to finish. Not so good for the marshals though! Maybe see you on the summit of Snowdon! Mal.

Hi. Wet and very windy as Ian suggests from his comments. Saturday was even wetter than Ian suggested!!! It might stop raining be August, (if we're lucky!) Tomorrow(Sunday) looks slightly better (but I wouldn't bank on it!) It's time maybe to get back to those traditional gullies of yesteryear when men were men and leaders didn't fall off etc). Or, it's time to batten the hatches and hope the weather changes so we can get back to dreams of sun drenched rock etc, etc. Well, heres hoping! Please feel free to contribute. Mal

Hi Folks
Still wet and windy in Wales, getting worse for Friday and more of the same for the weekend. It's go tto stop sometime. Cleared up for a few hours this afternoon as I was coming down of Snowdon with a really great group of lads from Simon Langton Grammer School from Canturbury. I believe it was springlike in North Wales the other day but I'll tell for nothing that it was y cold in the Balkans! There is an icy wind blowing down from Siberia and it's snowing intermitantly> However the skiing (I kid you not)down near the Macedonian border on Saturday was terrific at times but poor visability hampered progress at times. For those who like the adventurous side of Skiing, I can thoroughly reccomend it! Only one piste basher and I don't think they had any deisel for that anyway!
