Yes, you're talking crap agin.
But it's good crap, otherwise I wouldn't be here. It is an awesome, yet-to-be-appreciated, and endlessly fascinating dynamic. Fuck the detractors, it is new and it is here to stay, Slacker and his henchmen willing. This organic growth and spread of ideas must threaten a lot of people because nothing can stop it short of bringing down the whole system (pity the likes of poor Dvorak). And that would not be good for profits. I'm really looking forward to the future while getting a real kick out of the present.

I second that emotion. I just posted at Jonathon's that some comment threads are almost like chat rooms in their frequency. I don't know what that means but i like the sound of it.

Yep. It's a bunch of mini-metafilters, each one a little more specific to a subject, or writing you like (or writers?), or political slant or colour, (I liked orange the best, stav!) or none of the above.
And I love it.

I think that's a very good characterization of them, Oliver. The networks amongst people that arise thanks to enabling technologies (Blogger, Blogdex yadda yadda etc etc), and the transient conversations (like this little one here) that flare up and burn out over the matter of a few days, are completely ad-hoc. That's a strength, I think. It's easy to start a blog, and even easier to just drop in to a comment thread and contribure your thoughts, whether you're a person who has some flavour of weblog or not, whether you count yourself part of any tribe(s) or not...
