Oh dear. Legolas is not going to behave is he, despite Aragorn's warnings? I reckon King Boromir is going to have to tame his 'proud little elf' and I fear Legolas isn't going to like it much; and neither is Aragorn. Just how angsty can this get? <sigh>

Hi!
I've read the first two chapters of your fic on the tolkien_slash mailing list, and all I can say is that it is a wonderful story. I find that after finishing the second chapter I just can't wait for the next one! One thing I specifically like is the way you write Legolas. In some stories he is portrayed as a girlie person and submissive. I like the fact that you give more attention to his pride and stubbornness. I'll be waiting for the next chapter!

Oh my. I think I am seriously addicted to this fic, and at this point I can see no good way for the feast to go. I cannot see Legolas doing something that is so patently horrible for him.
I thought the fact that they did not eat birds, one because they 'do no harm' and the others because they are carrion birds and considered ill, was a nice touch.

How tremendously sad and poignant. I half fear and anticipate opening the next chapter. With a writer that is as talented as you, it is often heartbreaking to scan the obstacles and tribulations my fave characters must face before the resolution can occur.

I do have to admit being a writer myself, (WITHOUT a computer.) (yes, frustrating.) That I think this story is very well done. I like the descriptions and detail you instill into the people and places of your fic. I particulary like the elf prince being the slave, a definate twist to the usual plot. Yet, being the naughty girl I am, (a AVID reader of NC-17 fics) I was wondering if Legolas will be enjoying the attentions of BOTH Boromir and Aragorn? or just one or the other. Why not be greedy...hee hee. There are also interesting things you can do being restrained as well........ just a thought.
I am going to take a cold shower now. Keep up the great writing!!

I really feel sorry for Legolas...a slave, oh my god...well written fic. I'd try to act the same as a slave, though I'd probably kill myself after the first day.

I have fallen in love again. Two chapters, and you have me drooling for more, Rhysenn. It flows so well, and your style here reflects the subject, really letting the reader get into the story - not critiquing how the characters speak and act. I hurt for Legolas, and I sympathize with Aragorn...and I eagerly await their first kiss. But plot comes first, and yours make it worth the wait. Fabulous job, dearie.

sigh...lovely chapter..but it was slow-moving, no? when are they [aragorn and legolas] gonna snog??!
knowing you, there would be lots of angst and pain etc. b4 our lovely elf gets his man. :(
the speech spoken by the characters were very well-wriiten. the olden phrases etc. were done quite well. i don't know how you do it!!
i feel sorry for legolas; i want him to know that aragorn loves him and that he's not alone in this strange new place. i fear for him. i fear that he would undergo some torture of some sort for his pride, in the next chapter.
anyway, again, your sentences are all so beautiful!!!!!!
i don't know why but this is my favourite sentence in the chapter:
- Aragorn straightened; as he stepped back, he caught the elf's soft voice, on the wings of a barely audible whisper: "Thank you."
will wait eagerly for chapter 3 [and IP 12, please don't forget about that!!!!]

Yes, Legolas is an Elf prince, and that will be elaborated upon in more detail in Chapter 5.
Aragorn does not approve of slavery; and as you might have noticed, neither does Faramir. But in the interests of discretion, he would not publicise his dislike for this practice is it is legalised in Minas Tirith. Also, him saying that "It is one thing to take slaves of your own race" was meant to emphasise his disapproval of the elf's thraldom.

WHOA! For a minute there I thought Aragorn was gonna snog Legolas! Dang! That would've been funny! ^-^ I think Aragorn was being harsh on Legolas, I mean sure he's a slave and all- BUT ARAGORN IS MEAN! Anyway, this chapter is lovely done-juss like ch. 1. It's awesome! Very insperational, but now I fear that I can never read my LotR books again because I'll still have glorious mental picz in my head from ur fics, but who gives! LotR is awesome! ~_^ Well, best go, gots lots of fics of my own to write- no LotR, YET... I haven't even gotten to the books yet cuz of dumb projects... Well, now I must go.. TTYL...

very very interesting. would do better to elaborate more on aragorn's role in the palace; like, this is going just a little too fast. somehow, i think that the whole story would be given more life if you just wrote in your own style, though. few can imitate tolkien's way of writing... and not doing it correctly can make some mistakes that are jarring.
but on the whole, the idea has potential :D am waiting for more of this. yummy.

This is really amazing, Rhysenn, and very well written. it's so sad to see some LoTR fic's these days, because they don't keep any of the wonderful aspects of Tolkiens work, such as his beautiful use of the language. But your fics are really wonderful and fun to read. Great job!

In only two chapters, you've already sent me through a whirlwind of emotions- pride for Legolas sticking to his honour, sympathy for all that he endured, curiosity at Aragorn, amusement at Aragorn's subtle physical attraction to the elven prince, hope flaring and dying within Legolas during his short dialogues with Aragorn... I cannot wait to read more! And this is certainly something to read and reread over and over as I wait for the next chapter of IP. ^_-

Poor Legolas. I'm rather surprised that Aragorn isn't more indignant about the whole situation than he is. True, he is far more kind to Legolas than anyone else would be, but his line about "It is one thing to take slaves of your own race" (paraphrased) disturbed me. I guess I would think that Aragorn, who has had the freedom to wander wherever he wished in the North in his days as a ranger, would hate slavery. And to repeat someone else's question: Is Legolas an Elf-prince in this fic or a regular Elf?

Great chapter! I like the way you are developing the characters of Aragorn and Legolas, and the relationship between them. I am also delighted you have kept Gandalf as Aragorn's advisor in this AU. Your narrative and dialogue are perfectly in tune with Tolkien's style and his world - thismay be AU but is wonderfully detailed and convincing. I look forward to the next instalment!

Wonderful! Aragorn behaves just like he does in the Books. I would've expected Legolas to be a bit more - I don't know -elfish and proud, but who can blame him? He's had a pretty hard time.
You know, the thing I love about your fics, is that you never just "jump" into love and sex etc. You always take time to let your readers learn the background of the story -which makes it so much more fun to read^-^

In answer to some questions from reviewers:
[1] How did Legolas get caught in the first place?
This is mentioned in Chapter 2, and more light will be shed in Chapter 5.
[2] Obviously Aragorn is not king, but he's still the heir of Elendil, right? If he isn't, did he still spend time in Rivendell?
Aragorn is still the heir of Elendil, and he did spend time in Rivendell.
[3] is Legolas still Lord of Mirkwood, Son of Thranduil the Elvenking here?
Yes, Legolas is still the elf-prince of Mirkwood, although he hasn't been humoured with that title a lot lately *g* More on this issue in Chapter 5.
