As a long-time fan of Froot Loops - what's the problem here?
You're probably one of the people that objected to blue smarties too, aren't you...

If you want to try extremes in your cereal, colour just is NOT going to cut it. Try Humungo-Munch! They're extra large Froot Loops - each loop is over an inch across!

It's the crayon thing, really.

Do I sense a hole in your cultural background? Smarties have carnuba wax - that's what gives them the nice shine! And didn't you ever have wax lips as a kid? Given the amount of wax we eat *willingly* I can't see the occasion crayon being a big cause for concern.

I know, I know. But *crayon* flavored?

Gotta agree. "Crayon-y goodness" is not what I want to think about when I'm settling down with a bowl and an animated DVD (since there are no more decent cartoons on telly anymore).
