Look at all these posts asking for usage logs to catch cheaters. This is absolutely hilarious. Not the fact that people use solvers to cheat, but the fact that you care. Maybe you wouldn't care so much if you didn't revolve your entire life around a word game.

The program seems to not be able to handle the Qu letter seen on weboggle. It also seems to use a dictionary less sophisticated then taht program.

Please, please delete this program until you have provided a usage log. It totally sucks playing a game when you know that someone is using a cheat program, but can't prove it.

Vali,
Tangleword is still at iwin, they just have a new opening page. When you go to iwin, click on the tab that says "web", scroll down, and you will find Tangleword.

Yeah, what's the latest on the usage log? You should delete this program until the log is completed. Thanks.

Are you going to create the usage log??? It's been two years since I first inquired about it and you said that you were working on it. There have been several posts about it, but no results yet...what's going on???

Have you given up on this site now that you have your new site? Are you ever going to provide a usage log so we can catch the cheaters using your solver? It sure would be nice.
Thank you.

A usage log would be very nice to have at this site. Often catch cheaters using other programs with usage logs....think they come here when caught.
The sooner the better.
Thanks.

This program's down, for some reason CGI programs spontaneously stopped working on my webhost (HostNuke) and their tech support is being nonresponsive. If I have to move to a new host, it could take a week or more before the program's active again.

If I use this program to increase my boggle rating, is there any way that a fellow boggler can find out that I used an untangler?
CMU Grad  17

Actually.. you can only partially cheat at word cubes if you used the boggle solver on this board. The reason is, as soon as a cube is "removed" the solver is invalidated because it doesn't know how to handle the complexity added by the restricted paths. So the amount of time it would take you to populate the board for the one initial "solve" is probably going to hurt you more than help you.

Now if someone wrote an algorithm that took into account the actual word cube puzzle at worldwinner.com, then you should stress about cheating.

When you play for money, it gives you a time limit of 4.5 minutes to complete all of your moves with a 27 cube puzzle (3 x 3 x 3). I find that games seem to be extremely close most of the time. Last 2 games I played I got beaten by 10 points a piece.

However, their "cut" is over the top. I would understand if worldwinner took 10 cents off the dollar or so, but as it stands for a 2 person game you pay like $2.50 and can win a maximum of $3.50 I think. The money is taken first out of your account, so you stand to gain $1.50, stand to loose $2.50. The total investment being $5.00 from both players and the total payout is $3.50 so worldwinner makes an amazing $1.50 from every game played. Brilliant! Evil, but brilliant! I think their revenues are approximately 1 mill a month.

If you expect an even opponent, the odds are much worse than say.. craps which is near even odds. What's even more amazing is Worldwinner has no reason to fear any loss at all from their operation like a casino does. You could start a worldwinner today and start making money tomorrow!

Anyway, back to the business at hand, I think the boggle solver isn't anything worldwinner players have to fear. Worldwinner players should just fear worldwinner itself : )

mmm, why did you take down that post about worldwinner.com? legality issues?

I want to stress again to avoid them at all costs. I've thought about it, and they actually take close to 100% of your deposit. You play in tournaments, and every tournament only pays out about 60 percent of your entry fee. Winnings are then reduced another 60% next tournament, so you're down to a payout of about 36% etc. I think that is how it works. brilliant scam. too greedy though, so horrible implementation. for shame, worldwinner.com. for shame

Sites that allow you to play for money have a serious problem, which is that they can't supervise. Even for something like an online casino which lets people play a simple game like blackjack, players can just note down on a piece of paper which cards they've seen and easily beat the odds. If you're even suspected of mentally noting down too many things in a real casino, you'll probably be kicked out. So I'm not sure how online gaming sites where people play for money expect to deal with inevitable cheaters, especially something like TW (and chess) where it's so trivial to cheat.

Edit: testing something

Ed, it's only a game, played by anonymous faceless players. People are going to cheat regardless of the existence of my page. There are other solvers online, and far better ones can be created (and exist) that run on the local machine and can enter words automatically into the box. Yes, cheaters are pervasive, and we all know that-- especially me, judging from the number of hits I get. Is taking the page down going to do anything? Nope. But on the other hand...

I'm of the opinion that regular cheaters are just totally wasting their time and I wonder why they keep coming back and don't do something better with their lives than mindlessly wasting brain cells. Because so many cheat, and we all know it, there's no novelty to using this program. So rather than have a few people think they're so clever by cheating surreptitiously, the would-be cheater might just say "who cares?" and move on to something more productive.

On the other hand, the real point of the page is to show off a nice algorithm and what can be done with a little programming. Read the paragraph "about cheating..." on the solver page. Cheating in general isn't by any means a simple issue though, and obviously you can't just tell people "don't do it" and expect them not to.

incidentally, I really really wish you would take this site down. what were you thinking. what were you thinking. sooo many cheaters. at least make them write the program themselves. they really detract from the game. tsk tsk. for shame. also, worldwinner.com, or is it world-winner.com? has a play for money option but I would insist vehemently against playing for money. there are cheaters, the site takes like 40% of the deposit right off the top, and they don't send money even if you win. that is my experience at least with both word cubes and chess at their site.
happy untangling.
