Whoops - Chiyo snuck in there before me!

Thanks for the comment - I'm leaning towards separation of church and state here too...

Start a separate blog for the blue stuff. A non-K blue blog.

You could very much set up another weblog for your ranteriffics. I would read both, as would others like me.

Chris - you low-down dog! You and Bearman have yanked my chain well and good. Read the gentle advice given whiskeyriver at (http://pagecount.blogspot.com/2002_02_10_p...rchive.html#9713654). That you guys would stoop so low ...:)

Starting separate blogs for your current stuff and new material will end up with people all over the place. You need to lead clueless newcomers like myself every step of the way - mind you, you guys do that without effort, don't you? All the way up the garden path. You shites :).

If you do, stick to blue. And, yes, as I said to bearman, good one :).

Categories, for Dog's sake. Then people can drill down to just the Korea stuff, or the other stuff if they want to, or skim through the whole glorious jumble if they're me. Or make another blog, if you insist, but make the links between them clear. My previous offer still stands.

Mike - I have no idea what you're talking about, my friend! What what what?

Dan - thanks, cap'n. I'm still trying to find a working credit card to register a bloody domain :-( But you're right, categories and mechanism by which to filter them would be the way to go. Now, I've got to go and learn Moveable Type and see if it'll do what I want it to....

Well, I'm quite proud of myself - got activeperl installed on IIS 5.1, got Moveable Type installed and configured and running and I've had a play, and it took all of about 90 minutes.

Very cool stuff, is MT. Can't quite see how categories percolate through to the index page, but that's probably a matter of template customization, I guess. I've got to sort out this domain stuff and get to work - it's been too long since I geeked out (other than the redesign css spasm there last week)!

I'll read any wonderchicken scratchings on any topic, myself -- so, selfishly, my vote is for one blog. Add categories and a filter if you must, but please make it possible to read the whole barbaric yawp unfiltered! I spend too much bloody time on the net as it is.

I'll vote for keeping it all in one blog as well. For me, the biggest draw to your site is the stuff on Korea, but it wouldn't really be enough to keep me coming back every day if it wasn't for the other blabber that makes this site interesting and original in a very wonderchicken way.

People might disagree with me on this, but I think multi-dimensional blogs are far more interesting than one-dimensional blogs that talk about only one aspect of life such as politics or music. Which doesn't mean that blogs don't need focus, but making every post fit strictly within the realm of a specific subject is pretty restrictive I think.

Ok, I'm just about to email you my "Front" template for d-log.net. I shall add the category index template too. The category indexes will be stored in your archive directory, with names like cat_WHATEVER.html - you need to put a little navbox on your front page, linking to them. Also, each one may not show up until you have posted to that category.

Email me for any more help you need. Also see this article I wrote about MT templates, if you're interested.

It's all good together, I think -- makes for more interesting reading when what you're reading about isn't just the same note over and over again. I'm guessing readers aren't returning just because you talk about Korea, but because it's you specifically talking about Korea and whatever else you choose to talk about.

I'm one to talk, of course, having such a schizophrenic blog. If I cut out all the non-cranky (i.e. non-political) stuff, I'd probably be as boring as all the pure warbloggers are -- to the people who already read, and to myself!

Thanks all you folks...I truly appreciate the kind words, and the advice. I'll sort it out soonish, and hopefully keep writing crap that you're interested in reading!

MT will help for sure. You might consider doing a front page that lists posts from different cats in different columns or what have you. Of course, this may be a bit over-the-top, like Stallone. But hey, if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing, right?

...and I should mention, I'd prefer to get all my chicken in one place. But I understand the dilemma.

I like it all in one place as well. The blue boxes break the content up nicely. Carry on mon ami.
