I'm always amused when Extropians give Freeman Dyson props as a guru. Extropians seem to want the galaxy turned into processors, and the sooner the better. (I'm guessing they want this so their downloaded minds can play virtual reality MUDs forever).

Dyson, who takes pains to give credit for sun-swaddling energy collectors to Olaf Stapledon, wants a galaxy full of trees, and as much diversity of body and mind as can fit.
