jayz /m49399 Hopefuly your DRT is better than most. They never grant Drs fees, mileage etc. in my area. They have even come back with "management has the right to ensure an employee was actually sick on that particular day!" All sounds good but how often does it actually happen (collecting mileage, fees,. etc)

if no one works on a holiday, office is totally closed. why would you need a holiday schedule?

curious 1: The craft employees who are scheduled to be off on the Holiday, are given another day to be off. Myself, Wed. is my non-scheduled day therefore, I will be off on Tuesday for my day off and Wed, for the holiday. That coupled with all offices being understaffed, and some craft emplyees still on annual leave, makes it tricky to schedule in conjunction with various National Agreement provisions. Some mandate the person who is on N/S to work over, and some who are scheduled to work thier holiday to work over. If I work overtime on Tuesday, it will not be paid at the time and half rate since I will get paid for the holiday anyway, I will just make an extra 8 hours pay. egark is also correct, some offices will still staff, and some box mail will be made available for those customers. The trucks still keep running and the mail processing will still be done for Thursday.

I know it might seem like a fine distinction, but your day off stays the same. Your holiday moves.

^*^*^ /m49413 -- It is not that fine of a distinction, because if you work on that day which it is will determine how you get paid.

That's why I said what I did. It only seems like a fine distinction. In reality, it is a very important distinction. But to the average rank-and-file carrier, it is a day they were supposed to have off, and now someone wants them to work it.

Would like to know the process. Customer puts mail on hold for 30 days, they are on vacation. On 2nd day of vacation they receive a certified letter. Our PM states that we are to scan attemted and leave the 3949 in the vacation hold slot and return the certified letter to the accountable station. After two notices and 15 days the certified is returned unclaimed. My customers very upset that letter was returned. Could someone enlighten me on the correct procedure. Thanks

/m49417 I would have done it nearly the same. But instead of "Unclaimed" I would have used the reason "Temporarily Away."

James Vogel /m49417 -- Too bad about being upset. Until it is delivered it is under the control of the sender and regulations. The sender is entitled to know that it didn't get delivered and might need to find another way to contact the recipient if it is that important. It gets returned after 15 days regardless of the reason. (I agree that "temporarily away" is better.)

moi/m49383--Okay, you've had your adjustment and know you are to have a 3999 done, correct? I was always told to carry the route exactly as it is set up on the day of the '99. If he wants to change things later, so be it. I've had mine tweaked several times since my adjustment in August. But I carried it exactly as adjusted the day of my '99. I was trying to find a reference for that but haven't seen it yet. Check with your steward. Good luck

egark m/49411 yes I'm a new carrier, I have AL for Monday, with a Tuesday off day, with Wed. being a holiday I was going out of town. friend said that my name was on the holiday schedule to work my off day Tuesday. I'm not on the OT list so I did'nt even look at the holiday schedule. my friend says the holiday is for the day before not for the day of the holiday. one of the older carriers says I'm not required to look at the schedule, as a reg. i have a permanent schedule and Sup. should have told me that I was scheduled to work Tues. if necessary. I don't know whether to go in Tues. or not. don't want to get in trouble but want to make this trip, that's why i took mon. off
