I'm sure we'll all hear officially soon, but for those of us who have been stuck on bits of the Mytchett pound so far this year, you may be interested to know that the Ash Vale station bridge work closure is no longer there. We were pipped at the post to be first under the new bridge by Athai and Hunters Moon, both out for a cruise yesterday afternoon.

As far as the Vale Road bridge in Ash Vale is concerned, it looks as though all it needs now is for the road to be re-surfaced, so there should be no reason for it not to be open sometime this week as per the last report from the BCA.

I hope you don't mind, I've copied and pasted from an email I recieved as follows...

I am sorry to clutter up your mailbox with another e-mail, but I now feel that this incident has become important enough to do so.

Nb Holly, a 47ft hire boat from Middlewich Narrowboats was collected by a single male hirer on 9th March 2007 and due to return to base on the 23rd March. The boat did not return and there is now very serious concern for the welfare of the hirer. There has been 1 unconfirmed sighting of the boat heading from Wolverhampton locks towards Birmingham (20th March) and nothing has been seen of the boat or hirer since.

This does not appear to be a normal theft of a narrowboat as the hirer has left a car at the boat yard, paid by a credit card registered to his home address, and it appears that no-one has been inside his home address since the 9th of March.

I would be very grateful if all members could keep an eye out for this boat. If see / have seen it please contact Middlewich Narowboats on 01606 832460 or contact Cheshire Police on 01606 480000 quoting incident 421 24/03/2007.

A picture of the boat can be seen in this thread: http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8050.

Many thanks for your help,

Jon Belcher

Red Diesel Article received from IWA
---------------

Following meetings with IWA, British Marine Federation and Royal Yachting Association, as part of the budget announcements on 21st March, H M Customs & Revenue has agreed that the current lower rate of taxation of diesel used in pleasure craft will remain until 1st November 2008. From this date, fuel used for private pleasure boating will no longer benefit from the current reduced rate of duty. The change in regulations will be made by an amendment to The Hydrocarbon Oil Duties Act 1979, through the 2008 Finance Act. The exact arrangements are yet to be worked out, as H M Revenue & Customs has agreed to hold a formal consultation later in 2007. However, the budget announcement appears to provide two more summers of boating at the lower rate of taxation

Hello

I am looking for a liveaboard boat to rent or buy in the Basingstoke River Wye area. To rent I am single with two small dogs and work near Basingstoke. I would like a mooring fairly near to a car park, even within bycycling distance. Can any one help? I am also looking to buy a steel hull narrowboat over 55ft and a mooring would be a plus!
Many thanks

FRENCH TWINNING VISIT TO BROOKWOOD RALLY
I am looking for BCBC members who will be on their boats at Brookwood and who would be willing to provide lunch on board to the French visitors and their hosts on Saturday 27 May. Let's show the French what a hospitable bunch we are and at the same time give them an idea of what it is like to have a boat. Grey Owl III and Owl and Pussycat will each be entertaining four people. PLEASE, PLEASE, HELP!
Phone Bobbie 01252 325268.
Thank you very much in advance.
