Carl,

The reason the trials are held in October/November is because the County does not only enter teams in the Adult Division. There are people trialling for the Juniors, Seniors and YACs as well. The Junior County Championships range from Decembr this year to I think it is September next year. The YAC County Championships are held in February and the 1st round of the Seniors is held I think in June. The squads for the Adult Counties have to be with Bob Blaber by around 30th June, so trials held in the summer (I presume you mean around July) would not be much good, as the closing date for squad names has already passed.

I hope this answers your question.

Can someone explain why we have a trial in October for a tournament that will be played 11 months later. If we had the trials next summer we would get a team that was on form plus bowling centres are usually empty in the summer so we might get cheaper linage and so lower the cost of entry.

The cost of the trials will depend on which section you are entering.

Juniors, Yacs, and Seniors will pay £18.00 (6 games)
Adults will pay £40.00 (16 games) Any bowler who enters the Adult Section will pay this price, but if they are eligible for another section, the first 6 games will count as their score in that section. They will pay the Adult charge and nothing else.

I hope this is clear.

At last the format, dates and venues for the 2003/4 Trials has been decided.
Anyone NOT wishing to be considered for either adult squad will bowl 6 games at Burnley on the 12th 19th or 26th October.

All bowlers of any age group who DO wish to trial for the adult squads will bowl 8 games at Burnley on one of the above dates plus 8 games at Worsley on the 23rd or 30th November.

Anyone who enters the adult section who is also in another section (YAC junior or senior) will pay the adult entry fee only with the first 6 games at Burnley being taken for their "age group" trials scores and all 16 for the adult squad.

Closing date for entries will be midnight on 9th of October for all squads - NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR ANY REASON.

Entry forms will be available shortly and it is hoped to have a "downloadable" entry form on the forum site. No on line entries can be accepted as entry fee MUST be sent with entries.

Each adult squad will be the top 15 scores over the total of 16 games bowled at the two centres - There will be no wild cards.

WELL DONE to Zara - LANCASHIRE BOWLER AND WORLD CHAMPION!!!

Her score of 1386 would have taken her into 6th place in the Men's Division - some bowling what?

For those who don't know, her scores were as follows:-

224, 252, 191, 267, 250 and 202 - brilliant.

Well Done Zara!

Now can people please let her and Lancashire enjoy this achievement as it is brilliant for the county.

Please don't come on and tell everybody how easy the lanes were in Malaysia.

Well Done Zara!

mal..i think that skill has a lot to do with it, but the equipment also means a great deal why do we get custom made balls and Tiger Woods custom made club because i would'nt score what i do with house balls and and he would'nt score as well with a hackers set of clubs. Even with the best equipment you still have to have a great deal of skill to attain a very consistent high standard of scoring. I cant understand anyone knocking a good 300 which Chris got cos we'd all like one.

Why can't people be happy for each other in this county.

I witnessed every ball Chris bowled this weekend and not one looked like it wasn't going to strike.

If the lanes were easy, why didn't every other bowler in the comp bowl a 300.

Because the never bowled exceptional like Chris did.

Chris had never done a 300 before that, so people that have will know the pressure the amount of nerves Chris had to go through to get that 300.

So people who are making excuses for it, your just jealous.

Chris never decided the lane pattern on the day, he turned up and paid his money just like everyone else.

So please shut up and let Chris enjoy his 300, he might never get another chance to enjoy one.

It is in deed wrong to demean Chris's 300 by trying to say the lanes were Blocked" or "easy". As we dont even know who the person suggesting that is, it is even more pointless as the person concerned my not have been anywhere near Dustable on the day. In fact it is quite possible thatit is someone who is merely jealous of the achievement and trying to make themselves feel better by saying it was easy.
The next person to get an easy 300, let me know - I won't hold my breath.

To block or not to block?? At the end of the day regardless of the condition everyone involved has to bowl on the same lanes. I myself prefer dry lanes, however I find I am almost always alone on this. However having bowled at White City I was forced to re-assess my opinion of a dry lane, because they definately were not lanes that I liked!

The reason I like to bowl, is because each time you step onto a lane the result is different. Consistancy is the name of the game, but sometimes we are presented with a condition that tests us and we have to adjust to improve.

I also find it insensitive to label these lanes as blocked, does this mean that Chris' 300 was an easy one??? I think not, 12 strikes are 12 strikes, to not let the nerves get to you (at least) is a major achievment, lets not forget that the last ball bowled, was rolled over a different condition to the first, because lanes constantly change!

But the question is Mo....... If you gave Tiger Woods a set of house clubs... would he be as good.

So how much is skill and how much is equipment......
