G,Day,
I have a 1957 Fiat New 500, it is a Australian delivered right hand drive. Chassis number 79002. Can any body tell me when they started making RHD versions as actual production started in 1957 on the model and LHD must have been produced first. It is a New 500, full folding roof, no front blinkers, teardrop side blinkers, small tappered tailights. considering the quantity made, approx 3.5 million (total 500 versions) this is pretty early in production. Thanks for any assistance, sincere Fiat nut,

Hi Again Magnum.....well I am getting closer to buying a car......Have settled nearly on a 2000 model 156 v6 version but the Q4...i found it very nice and in my price range. I will be replacing the tyres when I get it and you said you put Firestone on your car..R u happy with them....and with not to much road noise from them....or would you suggest to keep looking perhaps a pirelli .

Thanks again

Susie,

The new 159 comes with 17" alloys. Here's a news item I got off the web:
http://www.webwombat.com/motoring/news_rep...o-159-australia.htm

The 16" on the 156 weren't bad. I just love the telephone dial wheels. I recently put a new set of Firestone and they perform better than the original set.

Let's know what you get.

Cheers and God bless,

Sorry Susie,

Those links didn't work. The 156 V6 6speed link is:

My Pro-Ma performance products website is:

Just copy and paste them (one at a time) to your browser (in a new window)

Sussie,

My V6 is the 6 speed manual (NOT the Q4 auto). I can't think of anything worse than a auto Alfa Romeo, somehow to me it is a inconsistency in terms. The manual gearbox in the V6 was introduced to Oz in 2002 see http://www.fastlane.com.au/News_Alfa/6-speed_156V6.htm

Yes, the 2.5 ltr V6 manual is a stunning performer and, if you're an Afla Romeo enthusiast, the sound of the engine as you get above 5,000 RPM is pure entertainment (turn off the stereo).

Fuel consumption is quite reasonable. I use Pro-Ma Performance Products PT5 Plus fuel treatment to keep the engine clean, to enhance the octane and to improve fuel economy and the MBL8 Conc in the oil to keep the bottom engine lubricated and reduce friction, the enemy of power (I am a Pro-Ma Distributor, see my website www.pro-masystems.com.au/motor). Fuel consumption is around the 9.5 to 12 ltrs per 100 klms depending on how you drive it of course.

My 159 is only the 2.2 litre 4 cyl but the power is 136 Kw (verses 140 Kw for the 2.5 V6 in the 156).

Cheers and God bless

Thankyou to Magnum.......I'm assuming your V6 is an semi - auto so did you notice a vast difference between the 4 cyl to the 6 cyl in performance (I have driven the 4 cyl and liked it but I thought the salespeed was a little sluggish so I am thinking of getting a V6) also how is it on petrol consumption. Sorry for all the questions but I appreciated your imput.

Susie,

I have had two (2) 156's in manual. The first was a 2.0 litre TS 5 speed and traded it in 2002 on a V6 6 speed. It had about 81,000 klms on the clock and the clutch and gearbox had never been touched nor had they given any trouble (it was regularly serviced by the Alfa Romeo dealer).

My current 156, 2.5 litre V6 6 speed has almost 80,000 klms and likewise no clutch or gearbox problems. This car has been traded on a new 159 2.2 JTS and delivery is expected in 3 weeks. It is of course a 6 speed manual.

Hope this helps,

Cheers & God bless,
Magnum

My cousin recently brought home a new convertible. It is a 1984 model, but I am confused about what exactly it is.

On the trunk lid it has the word "Ferrari" in chrome. Below, next to the passenger-side tail light, there is a chrome badge that says "2000 fuel injection".

On the front fenders, on both sides, there is a "Ferrari" decal that is yellow, with a black horse. On either side of the horse, there are the letters "S" and "F". On the bottom of the front fenders, on both sides, is a chrome badge that say "Pininferina" (I think I spelled it wrong).

My cousin says that this car is a Fiat. Is this car a Fiat with a Ferrari body...OR what?

Thanks in advance!

My wife and I have been Fiat enthusiasts for over 35 years. To try to foster more fellowship amongst Fiat 500 owners in Australia, Leonie (she is the brains) and myself have started a new website devoted entirely to the model. It is an interactive site so that people from anywhere can contact each other, display their cars, organise to meet up, buy & sell stuff, read & provide articles, etc, etc. It is only early days yet, but we are hoping to constantly improve it as time goes by & more people use it. And the best part? Its FREE!! The address is: www.fiat500group.bravehost.com
Thanks & regards

Am currently studying the possibility of fitting a UNO Mk1 engine into an X1/9. I would like some photo's of the location of various bits (eg the Fuel relay). Anyone have a UNO a digital camera and an interest in discussing technical aspects of the proposed conversion.

I know of one X1/9 that was converted in Sydney, a lead to the owner would be great.

Hey guys

Its on again this friday, our numbers are growing fast with the exception of last week (the big storm/autosaloon), we still managed to get a fair few people out for a convoy.

the phillip to civic cruise caters for all ages, tastes and genders,

our new website and forum is up at http://csr.derivan.net

if you would like more info, check out the site, otherwise, meet us at parramatta street in phillip (near phillip exhaust) at around 8pm on a friday evening.

ill be trodding around somewhere, we'll be filming more footage this friday and a sunday bbq is planned with more footage and photos to be taken.

quality standards are in place, car must not bare obvious defects, rules are still the same, no burnouts or racing within the visinity of the group.

CB radios are encouraged, will announce the channel on the night

we now park in mort street in braddon which is fairly quiet, we still have police rolling through but they leave us alone in the quiet backstreets of braddon.

Cheers, Apocalypse

No, for sure FIATs are coming out next year. Don't you read the newspaper? It's definite. How definite am I about this rumour - I'm not even a FIAT fanatic, and never heard of all the other times FIAT has "cheated" on you. The fact is, FIAT will be here next year, the exchange rate isn't the only contributing factor, and VWs are like German Hyundais, except driven by even less interesting people. Long Live Alfas and Ferraris.
Mike  168
07-06-2005 23:57 AUS(E)
How many times have we heard over the past 16 years that Fiat is returning to the Australian market? When will you people stop publishing hearsay? The exchange rate is actually worse than when the last rumour was floating around this time last year. Fiat has big problems and entering the pidly Australian market would probably add to them. As much as I would dearly love to be able to buy a new Fiat to replace my ageing fleet (4 registered - 5 under or awaiting resto) I will only believe it when I see a holding yard full of cars waiting for pre delivery - then I will get exited. Please, no more rumours.

How confidant am I about this rumour - I have just purchased my first non-Fiat in 30 years - a new VW Golf

Has anybody ever run the 225/45/17 five ring alloy wheelset (as fitted to 147 GTA, GTV V6 etc.) to a 156 sedan or Sportwagon. I have been offered a Sportwagon by a dealer (with these wheels fitted) and am concered that the increased width will compromise suspension travel and steering travel (because of tyre hitting guard). hi all

I have an '85 Alfa Sprint QV in very good condition for sale - in Melbourne - Greenvale.

I'm asking $3,950 (very negotiable)

I’ve spent heaps on it, new clutch, new radiator, etc, and have kept it regularly serviced – I have the receipts to prove it

I had it completely resprayed (in its original colour – red) a few months ago, it’s had two owners (including myself) since new, and has only 166,000 (genuine) kilometres on it

it’s got quite a bit of registration on it - til October '05 (I think...)

and it’s got practically no rust…which should make it a pretty rare find

it’s all completely original…I haven’t done anything to it, except maintain it - I have the original owner’s manual and all…

now to the bad news: a few days ago the engine got very noisy, and it gets a bit smoky after a while…and I’m told that probably means rings…but I’m not very mechanical…it’s also not roadworthy: one of the front headlight glasses is broken (though the headlight works fine) and the two rear tyres would not pass a roadworthiness test, for sure…the two fronts however are a fairly recent purchase and have heaps of tread

the other day I bought a Nissan Silvia…and whilst it’s faster, more comfortable, and better equipped, it doesn’t seem nearly as much fun, it doesn’t have the Sprint’s timeless looks, and the engine note seems decidedly dull after the music of the flat four…but maybe it’ll grow on me

I’m hoping the Sprint will go to an Alfa nut, who wants a Sprint that would be a sound basis for a bit of a project…I’d like to see it go to a good home, and hope to see it again – hopefully all done up and well looked after. And as I say, the 4 grand asking price is very negotiable…I’m not sure how much demand there is out there for it, but am hoping a few people would be keen to get their mitts on it

ok, I’ve written a bit of a book, I hope someone will take an interest

my email is citnamor90@hotmail.com – will give my phone number out via email to anyone interested.

hope this sparks your interest and we can do a deal.

I'm selling a very rare Italian beauty: '67 Ghia 450SS roadster. # 38 of only 52 built (approx 12 left). This was designed by Giugiaro and build by Ghia using Plymouth Barracuda V8 running gear. Borrani wires, Nardi wheel, etc. Said to have been owned originally by actress Marlene Dietrich. Looks similar to a Maserati Ghibli spider.

Hello Folk,
I'm a big fan and own an Alfa Giulia Coupe and a Fiat 131. I am having quite a headache deciding between two cars that are up for sale now.
The two in question are a Sud Sprint Veloce and a Alfetta GTV 2000.
Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

G'day. I've just bought what I've been told is a 1960 Fiat 500D and am looking for quite a few body parts, including both "suicide" doors ( I think 500N fit ), front panel, front bonnet, left front 'guard, floor, sills, etc. I know I'll have to get some of them new, but if you have, or know where I can get some of them 2nd hand I'd be rapt. ( and I'm not that flush ! ).
If you can help, please contact me by email at: andrewlanderson@optusnet.com.au
Thanks,
Andrew.

I have a silver alfa romeo 33 boxer that i no longer need as i have lost my license for 12 months. It is the gold 4 leaf clover edition. The paint is a bit rough in some places and a few dents that come in a 17 year old car. Everything is original no modifications have been done. It has been serviced by an alfa specialist. There are a few problems with the car which are 1 power window stopped working, there is a crack in the engine bay which can be welded quite easily also recently for some reason the key has been hard to turn in the ignition in only 1 direction, i have no idea whats up with that. The interior is pretty good but has a few blemishes here and there. The motor and gearbox are in perfect working condition, never had a problem with em, doesnt leak oil no dramas it should go on for quit a few more years. It is the 1.5 litre twin weber boxer and its a 5 speed manual. Email me at massa_stefan@optusnet.com.au for more info or pics. Car is in Sydney. Rego runs out on the 2nd of november.

hello! we currently own a fiat x1/9 and are interested in getting rid of it. the body is still fairly intact, although it might cost a bit to bring it back in its original working condition. if you'd like more information email me at mahriahn@hotmail.com

we're not fussy about the price, if no one buys it we might just have it towed away, but i think it would be such a waste for great car which has a lot of good potential!

Hey everyone! I own a 1975 128 coupe, and its engine just died. I am wondering what engines bolt right in to replace it. I was thinking of upgrading to a 1.5, (the previous engine was a 1.3) or maybe something bigger. I think that Fiat made a 1.8, but I'm not sure whether it will fit or not. Also, if anyone has any engines for sale contacting me would be most helpful!! My email is

Hi, I have an '84 Alfetta sedan which is in good condition except for a couple of rust spots in the usual places - rear window corners, boot sill etc. Having had a closer look at it this morning, I find that metal which holds the boot seal - across the back and incorporating the locking pin for the boot lid catch, is rotten. If I remove the seal, it's plain to see that the whole lip it attaches to will come with it - i.e. most of the width of the boot lip. Does anyone have any ideas / suggestions as to the best way to repair this area ? Would I need to get a piece welded on etc - is that even possible ? Any (useful) suggestions would be most welcome !

Hi guys, I owne a 1983 Alfa Alfetta GTV and I am having trouble with the sunroof drains. There cloged and if it rains heavily, which it does all the time here in Melbourne, if will overflow.
Can some one tell me;
1. if there are more than just the two drains at the front? and
2. where the drain holes exit the car?

Just picked up my 04 AR Spider JTS 2.0 Lusso. What a sweet car, rides like its on rails, with the sports pipes sounds the part and with the 17in monza looking rims it is defintely the coolest car Ive owned.

No signs of the olds AR weaknesses but time will tell, drove it in the rain with no leaks, no dramatic scuttle shake and I could actually hear the music blasting out of the factory Blaupunkt CD/10 stacker.

The front wheel drive holds up well with the ASR running, downside it is does bog down a little of the mark if the foot is applied to the pedal too aggressively - but still running it in so we will see how that goes.

Re: the red BiTurbo spyder;
The pictures are a little confusing to non Maserati owners,
The blue one is a 90 or later model 430 ( 4 door ) these had a 2.8 litre twin turbo quad cam 4 valve engine.
The red one is a 1990 or later Spyder, These also came with a 2.8 litre 3 valve engine in the latest models.
The other model numbers listed under the pics are . . .
222 - 2 door coupe
228 - 2 door coupe
420 - 4 door sedan
420 - 4 door sean
425 - 4 door sedan
The Vee six engines came in 2.0, 2.5 and 2.8 litres
The only engines that were larger were the 3.2 litre V8 s
Hope this helps . . . Ted

What can anyonre tell me about the red BiTurbo spyder featured in the photo (http://www.italiancar.com.au/images/IC105_lg.jpg) on http://www.italiancar.com.au/pilot/maserati_biturbo.htm
It is described as being a 430 Biturbo Spyder on passing the mouse over the picture. I am not aware of any 3 litre Biturbo spyders and the 4 would usually indicate the number of doors. Possibly the webmaster might know who supplied photos for the pilot page.

Hi there, I wonder if any Fiat aficionados can help me out? I was recently in Rome and saw a Fiat that I had never previously seen, but didn't have a chance to speak with the owner. It was a mid-sized fastback coupe and I thought it most resembled a late 60s/early 70s Aston-Martin. The only badge on the car said "Fiat Torino", but I wondered if the "Torino" is a reference to the location of their HQ, rather than a model name. I have searched through photos of Fiat models and have found that it is most similar to the Fiat Dino, but I have only seen the Dino in photos in soft-top form.
I am wondering if anyone knows if the Dino was also made as a hardtop, and if any were either brought into Australia or if not, were they made in right-hand drive for other markets? Or is this another model completely? I would also like to find out a little about its specifications. It's one of the most attractive cars I've ever seen and it could even divert me away from my plan of buying a 105 series Alfa GTV.
If anyone can help, I'm at jshein@hjb.com.au and I'd be very grateful for any information people may have.
Thanks,
Josh Shein.

to Rob J I have a 147 selespeed which has given me almost two years of great motoring. Problems - my car had a healthy appetite 4 oil (7-800 ml per 1000km) but has recently had the piston rings and valve stem seals replaced under warranty which seems 2 have fixed the problem so far. There is no adjustment for front camber and you need to rotate the tyres regularly. Most dealers will give a discount. Rick Damelian was offering selespeed as a no cost option. Momo leather is an option I would definitely go for.

Somewhere here I have the information you seek, but I'm having a bit of trouble finding it!
If I find it I'll post it here' in the mean time I suggest you use a tape measure (you wont need a long one!)
Normally wheel base is measured from the center of the front wheel to the center of the back wheel, but as the car has to fit on the deck of a trailer I suggest you take a measurement from the front edge of the front wheel to the rear edge of the back wheel, this will ensure the car sits on the deck safely! I would also measure the total length and width of the vehicle to be sure it'll fit on the trailer, believe me there's nothing worse than showing up to pick up a car only to find out you cant get the thing on the trailer, not that you'd need a very big trailer for a Fiat 500!
Cheers,
Macka!

Hi Guys I hope someone can help me.
I have a set of pistons and sleeves for I think an alfa my father bought them between 1978 and 1982 the guy he bought them of said they where alfa romeo 2 litre pistons.
The problem is alfas have dome top pistons and these arent dome tops.
They are made by Associated engineering Italy s.p.a.
The number on top of the piston is 80 4 064 and what seems to be a serial number wich is the same on all 4 pistons is 66532/2 on the inside of the piston the number is AE 3052 any help would be appreciated
Thanks Cosimo.

hi all, I am currently working in HK and own a silver fiat coupe 20v turbo bought new in 2000. I want to import this into Australia but will need to get an official estimate of its value there for customs. I will have HK sourced valuations but does anyone have an idea who could provide this in Australia?

Hi,

I am a new Fiat lover. At present we own a standard 124 CC coupe and a 124 BC coupe in rally trim for hill climbing. I am interested in building a friendship with other 124 type fiat owners so we can share knowlege on these lovely creatures. If I get enough interest I might start a 124 website as a library of 124 fixes parts etc.
If interested please contact me at morgan.henry@optusnet.com.au

I live in QLD.

Hello Ferrari and car lovers in general,
You may enjoy my 12 Pininfarina / Ferrari wooden body buck / styling model photos from the L' Idea Ferrari exhibit on the grounds of Forte Belvedere overlooking Florence Italy. From back when coachwork was hand formed and fitted.
Included are photos of the body bucks for the 1966 365 P, 1964 500 Superfast, 1966 330 GTC Speciale, 1969 512 S etc.

Go to:

http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?s=&t...d=1157&pagenumber=1

Scroll down to my (Evan Smiths) posts, starting with "Pretty wooden bucks by Pinin Farina #1," read the backstory and or open the "attachment" (1 low resolution photo per attachment for online viewing). On the bottom of the page is a photo of a mystery wooden Ferrari watercraft in venetian waters. Hint, it has central steering.

Best, Evan Smith

As co-incidence would have it, there was one for sale in Friday's newspaper here in Sydney. Hope to check it out (but the seller doesn't appear to be at home). The ad says it's a 85 model (a special edition)... so perhaps it has the rare wheels.

Thanks for the tips.

Hi, friends.
I recently saw an old Pininfarina-designed Fiat convertible in a local shopping centre and thought it was one of the most stylish cars I had ever seen. Would anyone have any information on this particular car (I'm a dedicated Ferrari fan, but a complete novice when it comes to Fiats). The only ID I could see was a "2000" badge on the back. Would there be any websites out there with info on this particular model. I would love to buy something like this (Incidentally, would price range would I be looking at here).

Re: Current state of Fiat Auto Group.

The reason why i disagree with the veiw that Lancia should be continued. There is no denying that Lancia has an illustrious history but that history is becoming increasinglt Distant! Lancia is currently only producing $150K p.a its current models are average at best accept the Thesis which is good. The problem is it is a brand that has fallen behind and one that does not live up to its current "crome & leather" luxury tag - more lake made over mediocraty. Look at Rover with has a similar marketing strategy / position! Fiat must produce class leading models to reestablish the brand (anything less will see it continue to bleed)- this requires BIG BUCKS which it does not have. Lancia should be sacrificed for the sake of Fiat Alfa & Iveco. Fiat should produce more main stream and medim size cars - with volkswagon quality. Most importantly Alfas success must be capitalised on. The new models must be sold in the US "156 / spider replacement" and take on and better BMW'S 3series and upcomming 1 series. Let the decisions be made in Turin not in Rome - this might seem tough but rationalisation connot be stopped due to high umemployment levels in the impoverised south!!!!

I saw an ad in the paper about a guy who makes complience for deltas in Auz so Im happy about that although I might be tempted to buy an escort rs cosworth at least theres a company in perth i think who imports and complies the escort so it would be easier to get, but well see when the time comes.
I'm sure your going to say traitor but I also have a passion for the old escort.

cos. ur status says ur from the us too. (ahahaha) they neva made evo's factory RHD. JOHN WHALLEY in england does excellent conversions. my dads red delta was converted from him. evo 2's have a smaller turbo, so there not as much fun to drive. i have driven both here in melb. evo 1 is betta in my opionion. if u do the job properly the rhd conversion comes out pretty good. some quick jobs can be noticably hard to drive. my car drives fine. even with 17s on it. howeva the yellow koni's front and rear help alot. ciao

Hi Adam, Good point but by killing Lancia they would destroy one of the greatest Italian marks.
Baring Ferrari no one has done as much to promote Italia on the world scale do we forget the legendary Stratos, Fulvias, 037, S4, And Delta no other mark has dominated the rally world as much as Lancia.
Personaly I would not like to see another Italian brand in the hands of an overseas company. But Inovation is the Key to Fiats revival and possibaly some competion eg rally,gt etc. they should not kill Lancia not that they will anyway.
All the best Adam Take care.

Hi Italian Car Lovers,

I'm an italofile (naturally my parents come from veneto - where all the white / blonde wogs come from). My concern is the current state of fiat. The company needs to make tough decisions or else it will be forced to sell to GM (SHOCK HORROR). The way i see it Lancia has to be killed of to save the a successful Alfa and struggling Fiat. Fiat needs to produce more mass production cars like a bigger Vectra sized car - it must utilise synergies with GM plateforms too save costs. Fiat does not have thye money to properly invest in Lancia to build great product and reestablish the brand which is currently languishing (under 150K units). It should also get Iveco to develop small 4wd too tackle this market like a honda CRV. Cut costs and understate realities and Limitations Fiat or Alfa (my favorite car) will fall into Americain hands.

I have a 3 litre 1999 model gtv and had a few problems with the air bag light. After many attempts to fix it, Ateco contacted Italy and found that they had been changing the wrong switch all along. In any case it was a little frustrating, but stick with it and it will get sorted out. As for performance modifications, I have read that you can change the chip to boost power from 162KW to 184KW. This along with changing the airfilters and exhaust system apparently lifts the driveability even further, and, offers considerably more perfomance. One guy told me that on a race track, he was able to outrun a standard WRX in top 2nd and 3rd gear. Pretty amazing stuff considering the GTV wasn't designed to be a weapon aginst all wheel drive rally machines. Anyway, it would have been fun trying!Hope this helps.

Rusty,
Hi,
It is well known that the TS Alfa engines have a thirst for the fine oil when the motors are new. It is the lament of many owners on quite a few forums.
My 156 used close to 1/2 litre every 1000Kms. Once the engine did more than 10,000kms i noticed that the consumption became minimal. With 21,000kms i rarely top it up now.
Hope all goes well.
Rusty  31
17-06-2002 20:22 AUS(E)
Does anyone have any experience with respect to excessive oil consumption with 2 litre twin spark Alfa engines fitted to 156 or 147 cars. I know that a long term 156 test car in EVO magazine had this type of problem and they alluded to this as not being unusual! My 147 used one litre of oil in the last 2300 kilometres and a new engine is being contemplated by Alfa Australia.

hey carlo, i can help you. there is a guy compliancing them in australia now. if u look on pages 188 and 189 of unique cars, there is a 2000 model (white) 20v turbo for sale and a 97 model blue one. white one is $68k (very clean) but a bit too steep price and the blue one is $49K. the same phone no. for both. both cars in QLD. i think he may have the compliance plates for fiat coupes. there is a yellow one in the richmond area and there is a silver one around too in melb. hope this helps you carlo.

PS I HOPE PEOPLE TYPE MORE ON THIS FORUM.

If anyone has any answers for specs on a roll bar for an '87 spyder you can send them to mpreusch@hotmail. com.

i've got a bender and all the tools, but don't want to build by trial and error.

thanks

Dear Nobby the Italian Car lover

Looking forward to marking your 40th birthday next month by sending you a photograph of half a dozen naked Poms draped over a Lancia or Ferrari, demonstrating superior Cowley engineering.....

I'm looking at buying a 1981 - 1985 Alfetta GTV6. DOes anyone know how hard they are to find in a relatively good condition (At least mechanically), and can someone tell me where to find reliable specifications (ie. whether they came with power steering, whether they made a 3 litre model), because different sites conflict badly. Also, what commonly goes wrong with them, apart from head gaskets, and standard Alfa quirks?

My understanding from newspaper reports is that the first range of Fiat cars this year will be commercial ones ie vans. Next year will be kicked off with the Stilo range, however no mention of the multipla as yet. Perhaps ATECO automotive group in Sydney can help you further.
Hope this helps.

At long last a web site that understands the excitement of Italian cars!!!

As an owner of a GTV 3.0 litre I can appreciate the glorious nature of Italian cars. I'm hoping that there are others out there whom can relate. Perhaps there others whom find it difficult to be moved by other makes. I hear people go on about HSV's WRX'x, even BMW's and I yawn, despite the obvious power/build quality differences/etc.

Anyway, thank you "Italiancar.com.au". I look forward to surfing your site frequently.

Ciao

John

Just join up from any page ('Signup') and we'll put your ad on the Buy-Sell section
