And Naveed's moment of the match might be an off-field incident this time:

Andy Burman chuckling when he knows he shouldn't to the "Greatwood/Smith" rib tickler from yours truly

p.s. Sanjay in case you are wondering, the answer is NO!

I agree with Hemin, a very good performance by all involved yesterday. The pitch was shockingly uneven but all of our batsmen played positively and went for their shots instead of worrying about the dodgy bounce. 217 was a very good score for that wicket.

Special mention should go to Suman for his 5 wickets and to Pat for his exceptional fielding.

Another great win for the Gents today!! Lets keep this going, the confidence was great. Great batting from Murali, Pat, Ravi and Suman backed up well by Naveed at the top.

Great bowling and fielding performance as well. Suman taking 5!!

Great win yesterday, and like last year Cairn's Fudge were top opposition. Our batting did collapse (I think we were 103 for 3 at one point), however on that pitch faced with hostile bowling runs were invaluable - Sachin's and HP's knocks (welcome back!) were excellent. I think their top scorer only managed 16 or so. Our bowling was top notch - special well done to Ravi.

I'm not going to argue about your fielding though Hemin! I think you need to limit yourself to just ten pints and bed by 4am for match days.

great win yesterday Gents, our batting may have not been up to standard but our fielding (apart from mine) was brilliant and hats off to the quicks!! Welcome back Ravi!!!

By the way Hemin, for the record that catch you took against the West XI last May wasn't even the best in that match :oP

It was a beauty though

Haven't seen the McGrath catch (will have to youtube it when i get a minute) but it sounds very similar to a Jacques Kallis catch about 6 years ago. Ball was biffed high over mid-off (where he was fielding), he took a brief moment to judge the trajectory before sprinting towards the boundary head bowed. Just as he was 10 ft from the rope he looked up over his shoulder, realized he was slightly off course and flung himself to his right before taking the catch at full stretch.

I think my one against the west last year was the best one!!

just kidding, agree with snarler, mcgrath's one was better. Although Staussy's one against australia at slip was fairly good!!

Coetzer's catch was stunning but the best catch I can remember is the one Glenn McGrath took (can't remember the oppo) about 6/7/8 years ago. He was fielding at fine leg, ran a huge distance, dived full length on the boundary and caught the ball in his outstretched left hand about an inch from the ground and only inches from the boundary.

Congratulations to all, sounds like a great game. Don't know about Sir Ken of Toft surely Lord High Street of Kensington is more appropriate. On a different subject, that catch in the Scotland game is the best i've ever seen.

I am still coming to terms to the fact that we won that game. Unbelievable effort from Ken & Sanjay at the end. 9th wicket stand of 57!

Special mentions should go to Scibo's knock at the top of the order, Lloyd's knock in the middle and Hemin's cameo towards the end.

It also has to be said that the oppo were fantastic. Genuinely good cricketers who on balance deserved to win but took the defeat with great grace. I reckon they would be a great addition to our fixture schedule for future years.

For those of you who don't know, the Gents were in deep poop yesterday against the Old Grumblers. We were 100 for 9 chasing 157. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. The Gents last wicket record was shattered as Sir Kenneth of Toft batted heroically with an equally brilliant one-legged Sanjay (torn calf muscle while fielding) who had Hemanshu as a runner. The victory target was reached with 4 balls to spare. One of the best "snatching victory from the jaws of defeat" games in many a year preserving our 100% record for the 2009 season.
