Fisking is normally more one-sided than this - I call the QuickTopic twist 'Social Fisking'

The best classic Fisking I've seen was Lawmeme vs Francis

Yes, I wouldn't define fisking as "QuickTopic freestylin'", as this is the first time I have ever seen someone using QuickTopic to fisk. As Kevin Marks wrote, fisking is just "rebutting an article by interleaving quotation with refutation (or general ridicule)", and usually it's refutation by a single person.

This Social Fisking is very cool, though.

Xeni just learned about Fisking now? Ouch; it must hurt for a pretentious hipster to be so behind the curve.

Um... I hate to tell you this but this has existed since the days of usenet. Nothing really new here.

Another example:

Xeni wrote back on April 28, 2003 (emphasis added),

"Former Intel coder and 39-year-old US citizen Mike Hawash has been charged with guilt by association in a "conspiracy to wage war on the US and support terrorism," according to a DoJ press release issued today. No indictment has been issued, and the grand jury has not yet heard his case."

Hmmmm, they actually charged him with attempting to join the Taliban and levying war against the United States, and what do you know -- Hawash decided to enter a guilty plea on the former charge and testify against his fellow Taliban wanna-be's.

Here is a good entry from the Volokh Conspiracy on Fisking. Note that it is dated over a year ago. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any citation of the earliest use of the term. Personally, I hate these in-group blog terms that don't make sense to people who don't regularly read blogs.
