sick minds want to know:

did he spin around as the bit went thought his head? If not, why did the doctors "unscrew" it during removal.

Now, with that said, a friend who was a marine security guard at a certain submarine base in the north west was witness to the aftermath of a self-inflicted m16 wound to the head (administered via soft palet). The guys brain apparently exited his body intact (well, minus a the brain stem) through the hole made in the top of his head. Seems the brain is a remarkably tough organ capable of surviving all maner of abuse (even if the body housing it can't).

trepanning requires leaving the scull section REMOVED after the procedue - i think it is all about opening the fontenelles (sp?) to simulate the blood-to-brain pressure that infants enjoy before the sealing up of the soft spot...

ALSO: as far as i know, all California workmen are potheads, drinkers and generally stoners - really.

Doctors essentially unscrewed the bit to remove it

I can just hear the attending surgeon muttering "Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey..."

The Bone Room is a fun place to visit. Same founder as the
East Bay Vivarium, a seller of live reptiles and bugs. Last
time I was at the Bone Room they had a freeze dried cat for
only $25. That was about a year ago, they might have sold it
since then.

Thanks for the tip, Karen! Bummer though that the Bone Room no longer has "the original but commissioned this hand-painted, museum quality polyurethane cast of this one-of-a-kind specimen." Still would be a treasured item in my cabinet of curiosity though.

Even if the fingerhead is real, it's not opening the skull up
to expose the brain.

I was wondering the same thing, Howard. Maybe chewing the "medicinal leaf" that "Pa" handed off to them numbed more than their tongues?

What happened to The Island Chronicles? Why hasn't it been updated? Did "Pa" kidnap the Frauenfelder clan???!

I will follow up by saying my brain is OK and they did close it up properly with tiny plastic screws, and now I just have an incredibly cool scar, should I choose to shave my head.
