Why not just the standard copyright symbol with an X across it? The symbol suggested looks like some kind of code for where to find freemasons.

I agree that intellectual property and copyright is important, but the "major social issue of our days?" A good stroll through the southside of Chicago might change one's perspective.

/m1: Umm, no, that symbol wouldn't help you find Masons. :-)

I say that symbol looks more like it's against copying, not against copyright. And since the symbol, I assume, is not protected by trademark or copyright, I can proliferate my interpretation in direct opposition to the creator's, and if i am persuasive enough, I can redefine it. I can essentially make that symbol mean the opposite of what its creator intended it to mean, and there's not a damn thing he can do about it.
And THAT is why we have intellectual property rights, folks.
Of course my argument falls apart if the creator did trademark or copyright the symbol, but then I get to call him a hypocrite, which is just as fun. ;)

Jerry, the creator could have trademarked it, which would be possible if s/he sold stickers, stamps, tee-shirts, etc with the logo.
And x-ed out circle-c is probably a better instant-read visual, though.

Maybe something like this would be more quickly understood internationally.

At first glance, boingboing's (small, cropped) inline of the demo picture looked like the symbol was located on the belly of a pregnant woman. Whichever interpretation of C-O-P-Y-around-X you use, that would have had more of an idea-punch to it than the actual 'on a hot chick's ass.'

aha - all of those look great. And #5 would actually test a form of copyright law when the Green Bay Packers see it. Ingenious!
