You'd hope a professor could come up with a slightly less banal "insight."

Then you'd remember the acadamy is about the last place you'd look for original thinking. . . at least in the humanities.

I think that a lot of the embedded journalists, the people actually with units moving around in the desert or the north, are probably just as fatigued as the troops, maybe more so since they generally lack the physical conditioning of the troops, as well as the training.
I'd also like to ask if anyone else notices that Wolf Blitzer really doesn't seem to like Aaron Brown? He always has this "you are such a hoser" look on his face when he is listening to Mr. Brown...

did anyone see Geraldo? (who clearly sees himself as one of the warnography "stars") he's all crazy and clearly high on the experience

all of the war correspondents seem to be giddy from the realtime "embedded" experience... I hope they come back and are embarrassed by their actions

I have this creepy feeling that everyone (especially CNN and FOX) seem to be feeding us exactly what some crazy pentagon marketing whiz sees as the most digestible images and soundbytes.

I have been blown away by some of the print and web photojournalism however... the stuff is often raw and ugly... waiting for us to make up our own minds...

if you sa that Marine holding the wounded little girl pic... after her mother and sisters were killed accidentally by Marines.... damn.

the guy looks like my highschool biology teacher, holding a kid that he and his platoon accidentally strafed with automatic weapons fire.

Yes, life was much better when there was far less information available about the war.

""As a scholar of porn, I look at this and say 'these are boys with phallic toys'"

Which makes me wonder a) where do I sign up to get my degree in porn studis, and b) gee, war=phallus -- that's some original thinking there. I mean, I don't think I've ever heard anyone make *that* connection before. I hope an original mind like that has tenure -- would hate to lose such insight in American academia.
